How to beat Challenge 3
By Morp
This is my first guide, so pardon the comparatively bare-bones information. Anyway,

INTRO/MY CIRCUMSTANCES:
Nearly all my pre-battle power-ups were maxed out, but hopefully that won't be too much of a factor in others beating this one.

ACTUAL GUIDE:

Pre-Battle Necessities:

Claire Skills:

  • Heal - just in case, especially early on
  • Battle Posture - a little extra defense never hurt anything
  • Realization - faster level-ups
  • Belief - help generate Holy Power while waiting for enemies to die

Upgrades:

  • Goddess' Protection I and II - a few levels here are great. As much as you can spare is awesome, but prioritize maxing out the other two upgrades first.
  • Leadership - max this out, obviously
  • Veteran Soldier I and II - prioritize maxing this out as well. The less you have to spend on stats, the quicker to the ideal state we get. I'll elaborate more on that later.

Soldiers:

  • Wizard - AoE damage great against multiple enemies
  • Mummy Soldier - They'll be our damage sponges.

Artifacts:

  • Ring of Restoration - %max HP heal over time will be much more powerful than any flat healing you can dream to contribute.
  • Medal of Honor - extra DPS for the Wizards
  • Relic of Life - arguably the most important item in the game. All units wearing one of these pool their HP together. This item alone makes the %max HP heal over time of RoR the most broken item in the game.

THE IDEAL STATE:

  • All units are level 20 across the board.
  • Two Mummies equipped with RoL, RoR+5, RoR+5
  • Eight Wizards equipped with RoL, RoR+5, MoH+5

WHY?

With the RoL, the HP of all units wearing one add together to become one shared massive HP bar. A Mummy with an HP bar of 1,100 tanking all the enemies is cool, but you know what's cooler than that? A Mummy with an HP bar of ~ 6,700 tanking all the enemies.

Here's a neat feature about the RoL; not only does damage to one unit damages all other units with a ring, but healing received from any sources affects all other units with a ring as well! In comes the RoR. Imagine what an un-upgraded 2% max HP healing does for a unit with 6,000+ HP. Sturdy heckin' wall, isn't it? Now imagine spending 5,000 Holy Power to unlock the 2nd slot for each unit there (because the 1st is occupied by RoL), and giving them each one RoR... that's already 20% max HP healing over time FOR ALL UNITS. That's a MASSIVE return on investment vs. spending 4,500 Holy Power to upgrade one RoR to +5, which equals a pitiful 4.5% HoT.

Anyway, to stretch your dollar even further, level up the RoR for each unit one at a time. For example, bringing each unit's RoR up to +1 costs 3,000 and brings the %HoT up from 20% to 25% HoT. That same 3,000 Holy Power used on one singular unit can bring their RoR up to +4, which would only bring the whole team's %HoT up to only 22%. A 3% difference may not seem like much, but every little bit goes a long way.

Finally, you've survived long enough to max out the RoR for all 10 units, and you've saved enough to start playing with the 3rd slot. Give the Wizards of the MoH, and the Mummies a 2nd RoR. At max rank the MoH doubles the attack speed of a unit, and with 12 RoRs on the field, your whole team has a passive healing of 54% /5 seconds.

UNIT PLACEMENT AND SETTING UP THE BOARD:

Rather than surrounding the statue with my units, I clumped them on opposite corners of the statue; 4 Wizards and 1 Mummy per corner. I start with the Wizards, manually heal them as needed and use one of my early level ups to buy one RoR, just to have it ready. I keep summoning more Wizards until they start taking a bigger beating. Once that happens I summon a Mummy further out in the corner, but still within range of the Wizards and equip it with the RoR so I'm able to focus on other aspects of setting up the board. I add more Wizards in preparation for when things get really difficult, and the 2nd Mummy will be unit #10. Some tweaking will be needed to ensure the enemies prioritize ONLY the Mummies over the Wizards. It's difficult, but possible.

From there I use my level-ups on buying RoLs for everyone, then equipping with them RoRs each, and finally a 3rd item to ensure as smooth a match as possible.

CONCLUSION:

If you read the whole thing, thank you, and sorry for this long post. It was a fun way to spend a day. Hope my method at least gives folks a better fighting chance than they would without it. Please let me know how it goes! I didn't take Runes into account because it's so random and unreliable I didn't take them into account. Obviously, what ever you've got, use it!

Thanks again, and good luck!

Thanks a lot.

I modified the strategy with 3 mummy soldiers and 7 wizards instead. I made a triangle-like formation since some enemies kept slipping by with just 2 mummy soldiers.
