Star Collection

The Star Collection is a very important system, ESPECIALLY for F2P players. This is the system you need to interact with to keep getting the currency required to get more Heroes.

Let's break this system down very quickly. Basically, every time you complete a STANDARD match with a Hero you already own you will gain XP for any one Hero you own, chosen randomly. XP rewards start at ~45 per match for your first match of the day, but will slowly trickle down (~25 -> ~15 -> ~5) over the course of roughly ~5 hours of gameplay. When you have enough XP you can use this XP as well as some Zeni to Upgrade your Hero within your Star Collection, and you will gain one level for that Hero (with a level cap of 7), and one level for your Star Collection (there likely is no cap on this lvl).

Note: Land Grab does not give any Hero XP.

Gaining star levels for your Hero DOES NOT GIVE YOU ANY IN-GAME ADVANTAGE, it is purely for getting more standard gacha capsules, and getting more Hero Coins (more on these later).

You can also upgrade the star level on Stamps, Emotes, Skins, and Helpers. You gain XP for these by getting duplicates - seemingly 10-20 XP per dupe, depending on item rarity. You will also need Zeni to upgrade these.

Requirements for Heroes are:
50 XP / 1000 Z (1 -> 2), 80 XP / 1500 Z (2 -> 3), 150 XP / 2000 Z (3 -> 4), 250 XP / 3000 Z (4 -> 5), 350 XP / 4000 Z (5 -> 6), 500 XP / 5000 Z (6 -> 7). (Level 7 is the cap for Heroes)

Requirements for Capsule dupes (skins, helpers, etc) are:
50 XP / 1000 Z (1 -> 2), 250 XP / 5000 Z (2 -> 3), [further levels unknown]

As a F2P player, Zeni is going to be your limiting factor when it comes to leveling your Collection.
Zeni (DON'T WASTE THESE!)

Zeni is gained through both the free and paid levels on the Battle Pass. It is also gained through Event missions. Zeni is primarily used for leveling up everything within your Star Collection. Zeni can also be used to purchase some daily items in the shop, such as a chunk of 25 Hero XP for 300 Zeni.

If your intentions are to get Shop Level 2 Heroes as a F2P player - absolutely DO NOT BUY HERO XP FROM THE DAILY SHOP! Zeni is very limited for F2P players, even if it feels like you have a ton at the start! Save all your Zeni for leveling up your Star Collection so that you can keep earning Hero Coins!
Hero Coins (DON'T WASTE THESE!!)

Hero Coins can ONLY BE OBTAINED BY LEVELING YOUR STAR COLLECTION. You get 900 HC every Star Collection level (this includes the first time you add a hero to your collection). Also, it seems that there are milestone rewards. For example; at star levels 20, 30, and 40 you get 2900 HC instead of the typical 900.

Hero Coins can be used on new Heroes, Special Capsule Cases, and some Daily items such as Helpers. However, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you ONLY SPEND HERO COINS ON NEW CHARACTERS! This is incredibly important, especially at the start of the game!

The reason for this is that the more you upgrade a single Hero, the more XP it takes to level them and the harder it is to keep raising the overall level of your Star Collection. So by purchasing new, low level heroes, you make it much easier to keep raising your Star Collection level, and thus keep getting more Hero Coins.

Only after you have all the Heroes available to you, should you start purchasing the minimum amount of extra items to raise your shop level, preferably Helpers you don't own from the Daily shop section.
The Shop

The shop is split into two tabs: Daily, and Heroes.

Like the name implies, Daily items rotate daily, and include things such as XP for Heroes in the Star Collection (Zeni Purchase), and Helpers (Hero Coin Purchase). The Daily tab also occasionally offers 5 Standard Capsule Cases.

The Heroes tab is the important one to keep track of. Here we can see that Heroes cost 6000 Hero Coins. This means that roughly every 6-7 Star Collection levels, you can get a new Hero. However, some heroes require a certain shop level before you can purchase them. You can raise your shop level simply by purchasing more items in the shop with Hero Coins.

This means that even after you purchase all the Heroes available to you at shop level 1, you will still need to purchase some special capsules or other items to raise your shop level enough to buy more Heroes. However, as mentioned in the Hero Coin section, you should really prioritize getting all the Heroes you can before doing this so that you can keep earning Hero Coins easier.

Oh, also you can purchase new Heroes for Dragon Gems (premium currency).
Dragon Gems (Premium Currency)

The Beta did not include the ability to purchase Dragon Gems, so we currently do not know the conversion rate. However, we can guess that it'll roughly be $1 USD = 100 Gems. We get this number from the Battle Pass costing 1000 gems, and the majority of games price their battle pass at roughly $10 USD.

You can use Dragon Gems to purchase the paid levels of the Battle Pass, Special Capsules, and Heroes from the shop.

Judging by the wording on shop level restricted Heroes, it might be possible to use Gems to buy Heroes that you don't have the shop level requirement for.

If you're swiping on this game, your best bet is just getting whatever Heroes you want. Though it seems kinda likely that you won't get shop XP from Gem purchaes, so just keep that in mind.

The Battle Pass is kind of useful, but it's not super exciting.
Battle Pass

Right so, the Battle Pass isn't super exciting in this game. There aren't a lot of unique rewards in the paid version, but the generic things you get are pretty useful for leveling up your Star Collection.

Free Track:

- 30,000 Zeni
- 35 Standard Capsule Cases
- 210 Dragon Gems
- 3 Special Capsule Cases
- 1 Stamp

Premium Track:
- 18,000 Zeni
- 90 Standard Capsule Cases
- 210 Dragon Gems
- 3 Special Capsule Cases
- 1 Stamp
- 1 Battle Effect

So all in all, the Battle Pass is mostly useful for leveling up your Star Collection and maybe getting some nice emotes, skins, and helpers from the capsule cases. However the real selling point is getting low level capsule dupes! Even with mediocre luck (like mine lol), the large amount of standard capsule cases will really help push your Star Collection higher - which means more Heroes! Even with my bad luck and early bad Zeni/HC prioritization, I was able to get 2 Heroes from the level 2 shop. If you have the patience to do quests and level the BP and save your Zeni for low-ish (3000>=) costing upgrades, you can easily get 3-4 shop level 2 units over the course of a Battle Pass.
TL;DR
ok tl;dr time

  • PRIORITIZE GETTING NEW HEROES WITH HERO COINS FIRST!
  • After buying all the Heroes you can, only buy the minimum needed in the shop to level it up. Then go back to getting more heroes.
  • ONLY USE ZENI ON LEVELING YOUR STAR COLLECTION!
  • Make sure you keep leveling up your Star Collection to get Hero Coins for more Heroes! Prioritize low cost / low star level items when possible!
  • Battle Pass is useful for leveling your Star Collection, but otherwise not exciting.

Update: definitely NOT worth using Zeni on the daily shop Hero XP. my account is basically bricked cos I wasted Zeni on Hero XP + wasted Hero Coins on capsules. if you use all your currencies properly you should be able to get shop level 2 as a F2P within the playtest tho.

nvm, you actually get 2900 hero coins from level 20 - so if there's more rewards like that at certain milestone then it should be a lot less than lvl 45 to get shop level 2 heroes

@beaver it's not impossible but it's definitely a LOOOOOONG grind, constantly getting those daily XP boosts from the shops might end up being the play cos I think you need to be star collection lvl 45 before you can actually buy any of those guys (assuming we don't get Hero Coins from anywhere else in the future) :,)

getting characters like cooler or trunks is genuinely impossible
