Fix: Stuck at "Press Enter"

Game boots up, introduction cutscene plays, then the title screen displays. Just press Enter. Except, nothing happens. No matter which key are pressed, it is as if the game doesn't recognize any inputs you made. This guide aims to help you how to resolve this particular issue.

Essentially, the issue is that the 64-bit version is bugged. The workaround is to force the game run at 32-bit.

Step 1: Locate local files

Either find the game files manually using the file explorer, or use the Steam Interface:

In your Library, open Need for Speed Rivals.
Click the gear icon, then select "Properties..."

Select "Installed Files", then "Browse...". This will open the File Explorer to the game files.

Step 2: Modify some files

We will modify some files to force the game to run at 32-bit configuration.

Delete both "NFS14" files as highlighted below.

Rename both "NFS14_x86" files into "NFS14". Caution: careful not to delete the file extensions.

Close the File Explorer.

Step 3: Run the game

The previous steps should result the game running into 32-bit format. There will be no changes in appearances when it does.

When this message appears, just follow it and the game should load to the main menu.

One of the tips hints that you can enter Hideouts anytime, even while surrounded by police. Useful when accidentally reaching high heat levels early in the racer career; cars are not durable enough for dogfights yet.

Sidenote: Reverting changes

To essentially undo what we just did (deleting and renaming), return to "Properties...", "Installed Files" then "Verify integrity of the game files". Note: Internet required for the Steam to redownload the missing (deleted) and modified (renamed) files.

Caution: doing this may cause for the "Press Enter" bug to reoccur.
