Introduction
Before you continue using walkthrough guide, I would like to take a few notes on some symbols and specific annotations. As you already know that Final Fantasy III (3D Remake) doesn't have dungeon maps, so that I re-created them using 8-bit 2D style to visualize directions, chest locations, and other important spots/people like MogNet or bosses etc. On top of that, I will also list chest list and monster list in specific area (missable monsters). Below is a few notes you will find it useful:
  • A number in parentheses: represents the order of destination you have to go.
  • Stairs icon: represents an entrance from one floor/dungeon to another.
  • Door icon: represents a door or the first entrance.
  • Person icon: represents an important character, it can be a boss, an NPC that you need to talk to.
  • Gold coin icon: represents an item that is not a chest, usually it's a hidden item.
  • (trap): means that there is a monster inside the chest.
  • (Optional): means that the section is not required for the story to progress. But you must do it for perfect game.
Here is a list of areas/dungeons that will not be accessible after certain points in the game listed in order of progression, so make sure that you collect all chests and bestiary list in that specific areas/dungeons:
  1. Castle Hein: Once you get inside, you cannot come out until you defeat Hein. After defeated Hein, you will lose access to the castle.
  2. Wracked Ship: Can only enter once the first you sail to the Surface World. There is no monsters, however, there are 2 chests you need to collect here.
  3. Sea Surfaces: There are 3 sea surfaces, Floating Continent's inner sea, outer sea, and Surface World's sea. You won't be able to sail after losing the. Enterprise. You will lose your Enterprise when you fly over Saronia.
  4. Lake Dohr: As long as you don't kill Leviathan, you can get in/out any time.
  5. Doga's Grotto: You cannot enter this dungeon after killing Doga and Unei, so be sure to collect everything.
Perfect Game?
Decide whether you want to complete the game with 100% max stats and collect all items or not is crucial from the beginning because it requires you to level up all 22 jobs and maintain your character levels below 40. Unlike other Final Fantasy games, the only stats you care about is HP, other stats is pre-determined based on character level. Please read Perfect Game section for more detail before you continue.

Simply put, whenever you obtain new jobs from a Crystal, go back to an area where monsters are the weakest, preferably Altar Cave, and level up your job to 99 before continue. There are a few benefits to this approach:
  1. You'll have enough job abilities in your disposal to use when you face tough enemies.
  2. Your damage will increase dramatically because your damage is based on your character level + your job level.
  3. It'll make your life so much easier, grinding job level from 1 to 99 for 22 times is so much boring.
You'll put reminders along the way when you obtain jobs and need to go back to grind job levels.

You can also access this guide on my blog: https://www.soloplayguide.com/games/final-fantasy-iii-3d-remake/walkthrough. It easier to read than and has highly images quality due to Steam limitation.

Castle Saronia
Remember I recommend you to level up Dragoon job? well, you haven't do so, you can still leveling up outside the castle. Save you game before entering the castle because once you do, you will have to watch a long show, then fight a boss Garuda. Trust me he is really tough and most effective strategy is to kill him as soon as possible. See the strategy below:
  • Everyone change their job to Dragoon, equip all dragon equipment, Wind Spear, and Thunder Spears.
  • When the battle started, everyone uses "Jump" and keep Jumping until he is dead.
  • The big problem here is he can that Garuda can attack twice per turn, his Thunder attack can wipe out your party in one or two shots. If you are lucky enough, you can defeat him in the first try.
Now that you have defeated Garuda, it's time get some rewards.

  • 155. Peryton
  • 156. Ogre (missable)
  • 157. Cyclops (missable)
  • 158. Nemesis (missable)
  • 159. Humbaba (missable)
There are 2 bosses here (Doga and Unei) which you have to fight one at a time.

Now that Ancients' Maze is only accessible with The Invincible. Again, go back to Ancient Ruins to pick it up.

  1. First go to (1), kill Titan for the final set of new jobs.
  2. Follow the maps, collect all chests.
  3. At the end is the entrance to the Crystal Tower.
if you plan for a perfect game with max HP, I highly suggest you that you go back and grind a few more level job/character levels before entering Eureka.

39. Eureka (Optional)
Eureka is an optional dungeon, but it has all of the most powerful equipment in the game. It's entrance is in the Crystal Tower.

Crystal Tower & Eureka
From the entrance of Crystal Tower, go straight into the center room.

40. Level Grinding (Optional)
Maximum Stats
The way stats work in FFII is very different than others. You have two factors that help grow your characters, they are Character Level and Job Level. Character level grows your overall stats while job level grows your HP. Because of this, you cannot control how you grow your stats, the only thing you can manipulate is your HP. In order to achievement the maximum stats is have your HP max at 9,999.

HP grows when your character levels up, but the amount of HP depends on the current job your character is using. For example, If Warrior raise 70 HP, White Magic only gives 50 HP. Now the question is what job provide the highest amount of HP when a character levels up? It's Black Belt, follows by Viking.

To guarantee that you max out HP, you must level up as Black Belt from character level 40. This means that if you characters are already level 60 and start leveling up as Black Belt, you cannot have 9,999 HP.

Character Level Grinding
Unfortunately, You can only obtain Black Belt from the last Crystal (Earth Crystal) at the very late game (Ancients' Maze). It kinda put a restriction on you that you must play through the game below level 40 until you get the Black Belt to start leveling up. Fortunately, it's not too hard.

Here are a few spots where you can leveling up based on your level, here they are:

Level 40-70:
  • Bahamut's Lair
  • Ancients' Maze
  • Crystal Tower

Level above 70:

Job Level Grinding
Job doesn't grow with EXP, but rather Action Point (AP). You get 1 AP when you perform 1 action. So, what counts as actions? Well, any command you use during a battle are all counts as actions. For instance, you select on "Attack", you select "Guard", you use "Magic", these are all actions.

In a battle, you can level up your job only one time which mean that in order to max out one job, you have to fight at least 99 battles.

For table reference of many actions you need for each job, you can visit Grinding Job Level section.

Farming Strategy
The best location to farm job level is the grassland between Altar Cave and Ur. You don't need a powerful monster but a Goblin is enough.

Start by changing everyone to the same job so that they can level up at the same time, put everyone in the back row to reduce the damage, then start running around the grassland. Once the the battle, everyone use "Guard" for the first round, this will count as 1 action for everyone, then press the auto battle button for number of actions needed. For example, if you 7 actions to level up, you can guard until round 6 and kill the Goblin at round 7.

41. Crystal Tower
Crystal Tower is probably the longest dungeon in Final Fantasy III.

Once you step your foot on (10), you won't be able to go back, so make sure that you are strong enough before going into the World of Darkness.

42. World of Darkness
The World of Darkness has 5 portals in total, 4 at the edges and 1 in the middle. You objective is to kill all bosses in the portals at the edges first.

Congratulations on defeating Cloud of Darkness. It's not over yet if you plan to confront Iron Giant, so watch the ending credit and save your game. After it is finished, load your game from the slot that you just saved in, you will be loaded right in front of the Crystal Tower.
??? Cave - Iron Giant
To unlock the ??? Cave, you first have to kill Cloud of Darkness which you already did if you follow this walkthrough. Now reload the game with the save after end credit (save slot with the 3 stars), this will bring you back to the Crystal Tower.

Talk to MogNet on The Invincible as Luneth, you should receive a new mail from the 4 Old Man, read it. Next, change the top character to Arc and talk to the MogNet again, this should prompt you a new mail "Saronian Legend" from king Alus which tell you about a legend of a falling star into the sea.
