Elusive Items

A list of what I consider to be some of the game's easy to miss items, I might make it into a fully fledged Item guide as time goes on.

Warnings
WARNING: I suggest leaving the item collecting for after beating the game casually since the most efficient way to fully fill out the item log is by replaying certain areas of a chapter by abusing the auto save (or save-scumming as I call it), which greatly tarnishes the experience.

ALSO HUGE SPOILER WARNING
Additional Notes and General Tips
The remaster adds a feature in the Item Library extra menu, detailing the specific chapter and screen where the item can be first located. Additionally, many items can be found pretty easily by just exploring each chapter as best you can. Even so, some of these are quite elusive, even when actively looking for them. To better aid item hunting, I have detailed some that gave me a bit of trouble finding when I was completing my item log.

I would also like to thank and credit the folks over at the Dept. Heaven Wiki for documenting these years ago, they continue to be incredibly helpfull even to this day.

If any of you wish for me to make this a complete list of every item, please do let me know.

Additionally, please inform me of any inaccuracy or mistakes I might have committed, even though I have them documented, I have yet to obtain every single item (only missing the holy orb, Bat JR., one of the forbidden spells, Magic Shell, and a page from chapter 8).

General Tips:

  • Always check out the rewards (Both for S and A) before initiating a battle to see if a specific enemy has an item you’re missing. Keep in mind that practice battles only drop their A rank reward and that the last demon defeated will drop their item.

  • Bosses have S rank rewards (even the final boss), make sure to get them!!!

  • Make sure to visit everyone in Elendia whenever you get the chance, they have goodies that are willing to share with you, so don't be a stranger.

  • To facilitate the collection of the random chest QTE items, it’s best to beat the game first and unlock the option to disable them (or save scum a lot).

  • Keep in mind that the game also has a “use all over-skill” achievement for every character, make sure to unlock and use them at least once! (will still count even if save-scummed)
Elusive Battle Items
As mentioned previously many items can be obtained by S ranking certain demons in their respective chapter.

Fang weapons: The first three are only found by slaying the hound demon last in their respective chapters, make sure to search each area thoroughly.

The last two are forged by Chappi by obtaining the chipped dagger in chapter two, and the Aquarium Fragment (easy to miss, explained in the event item section) in chapter 6.

The elemental orbs: These are quite spread across the first three chapters:

Fire orb: Have Rose get it from the chains in 1-6

ice, lightning, Holy orb: Have Cierra open the magically locked chest, contains every single orb, so save-scumming is recommended.

The elemental crest: Most of them can be found in Chapter 5 -1, depending on who you send to search the abandoned house in the third screen.

The elemental emblems: Can obtain each of them from the open chest in 5-5, have Lina check it anyways. There are only two chests in the game that contain them (the other I believe being in chapter 7) so save-scum to obtain them all at the same moment to ease the process.

Bat Jr. : This rascal evaded me for so long since he is hiding in the magic circle room in the Crystal Caverns after beating chapter 2, make sure not to miss the QTE.

Forbidden Spells: Reach the secret angelic library in chapter 4 after reaching its final area in less than 120 turns. After exploring a bit (and not missing any QTEs) you will find a book where each character will select a page that you can later take to Claude for an item. Only Ein’s, Cierra’s, and Fia’s page will give an item, Lina and Serenes unfortunately do nothing.

Spoiled / burned bread and meat: Take any bread item and any meat item (not including dragon meat) to 5 - 8. The poison from the venoma will turn it into its spoiled version. Afterwards, have Cierra learn their respective over-skill and burn those suckers into a crisp.

Fanelia: Strong one time use battle item, obtained after defeating the zombie-dragon in chapter 5 and digging up in the soft ground in the Undyne Springs 5-6 times. The Divine Scripture that hinted it's location was moved as the reward for beating the optional chapter 8.

Zephyr: Have SPECIFICALLY a Mythril sword with you and the fary in the chest in zone 6-4 will power it up into it.

Holy water: Obtain the Holy Grail from chapter 4. Afterwards, you can fill it up at the Undyne Springs for 5 uses.

Longinus: The final boss's S rank reward that you will not get to use for that save file (because you just beat the game). However, it will replace the Rosier from chapter one and Ledah will give unique dialog after acquiring it.
Elusive Event Items
Most event items can be obtained by playing the game normally and not messing up most QTE’s (with some exceptions), but I consider these ones to be easily miss-able.

Broken Sword Hilt: Fail pulling any of the dragon killing sword 3 times

Four leaf clover: Right before meeting Serene, search the patch of grass with Lina. It’s a random chance to get it so I suggest save-scumming.

Aran Doll: After arriving at the four season forest puzzle in chapter 3 (AKA 14yo me’s Purgatory) go UP/DOWN/UP/DOWN (starting from spring) and interact with the open chest. Make sure not to toss it aways; it will hurt Cierra’s feelings and we don’t want that. (Thanks to the wisdom brought forward by Trialereily, you will still get the event item after tossing it by escaping the forest.)

Thunder Onyx: Make sure it’s Fia the one who searches the rubble in 3-2, Ein is insanely blind.

Spiral shell: give Reiche all three mushrooms you come across in chapter 3. Keep in mind, you must NOT have obtained the mushroom book from Claude in order to obtain this item! (for some reason)

Upola Statue: Fish without the grasshopper in zone 3-2, it has a random chance of appearing, I suggest save-scumming until you get it.

Angel Gem: Before heading into the secret area in chapter 3, make sure to look at the angel statue in the third screen, Ein will comment about a shine in the angel's head, if you don’t you will instead get a CG of everyone judging Ein’s “innocence”. I’m not sure if you still get the CG by just checking out the statue while you're on it, so I suggest only checking the head. (Reach the secret angelic library in chapter 4 after reaching its final area in less than 120 turns and dropping in the second screen)

Light Moss: After Serene turns the room dark by tossing the chest in 5-2, keep the room dark and go back to the entrance and it will be there.

Venoma Bud: You need the bottle item that can be acquired in Tethys, alongside the music sheet. Obtainable after specifically asking Fia what Venoma was and inspecting it in the second room. Tip, don’t be afraid of the -2% hp per room loss as it’s usually going to total less than 16% usually (save scumming is also an option).

Magic Icicle/Key to Hell: Do the ank puzzle as you normally would, but choose the X ank in the blue portal room instead of the A ank, then return to the bottom screen in order to find the black boulder and descend to the gates of hell. The Icicle can be found by cutting the magic pillar of Ice (don’t touch it please), and the key is obtained by defeating the zombie dragon at the end.

Aquarium Fragment/Black Feathers: In Chapter 6 - 4, you must drop to the second layer of platforms from the middle screen and go left, there you will find a secret garden with multiple goodies hidden.

Divine Scripture: Obtained after beating chapter 8, tells you how to obtain Fanelia.

Ah, it is called Spiral Shell, thank you. When it comes to the book, I'm not sure since I'm leaving my first chapter 8 clear for Ledah, since I find it to be more challenging with him (blud refuses to take my potion). It's probably the only event item from chapter 8, although I remember it being in Claude's library at a certain point, but it might be my brain misremembering.

Also, did you mean the Spiral Shell by Magic Shell?

Isn't this the book telling you about the location of Fanelia?

Maybe it still appears in New Game+ (I didn't check it).

Tossing Aran Doll will cause reappear right after escaping the forest , Cierra will take it and registers to Key Item. What matters is the Lost Forest sequence to encounter it.
