The real Yakuza in Japan
Act on Prevention of Unjust Acts by Organized Crime Group Members(暴力団対策法), which is usually called as Anti-Boryokudan Act, annoys many Yakuza in this game. In the following sentence, I will write about the current and true situation of it in Japan.

1: The law works well to reduce the number of yakuza

As the game revealed, Anti-Boryokudan Act works well to decrease the power of Yakuza. For example, Yamaguchi(2024) noted that “the yakuza membership shrunk to 20,400 last year, a third of what it was two decades ago, according to the National Police Agency.“ In brief, the law gets rid of the human rights of yakuza completely, so they could not survive as yakuza.

2: Anti-Boryokudan Act affects ordinally person(カタギ)

The ordinally person(カタギ) in the Like a Dragon series often has relationships with yakuza because they don’t have any disadvantages in their daily live unless troubles arise. However, the reality is different. The Anti-Boryokudan Act strongly regulates having a relationship with the yakuza, and if it is revealed, the ordinally person will lose many rights such as the right to open a bank account like a former yakuza member. In other words, the ordinally person in Like a Dragon series are usually regarded same as the yakuza. If you have interests, read this page[sat-sagasu.com]( The homepage is written in Japanese).

3: The 5-Year Provision for Former Boryokudan Members(元暴5年条項)

It relates to Anti-Boryokudan Act, and like in the main game, it regulates various activities of former yakuza member. During the game, there was speculation about the abolition of the regulation after five years, but it turned out to be false. It can extend the period indefinitely, leaving former yakuza helpless without strong supporters. This is the example[www.tokyo-np.co.jp] in Japan( The homepage is written in Japanese).

4: There is no regulation to become an ordinary person(カタギ) after withdrawing from the yakuza.

As the title suggests, Japan does not have any regulation, and this also implies that the former yakuza member continues to be seen as yakuza until their death. Thus, Kiryu is not ordinary person at all, and he is still yakuza. This is the example [wpb.shueisha.co.jp]of this regulation, and the respondent who condemn about it is the former yakuza member( The homepage is written in Japanese).
