BloodThunder - 12:21 Glitchless Run

*I played on Normal and activated new game+ (but did not change any settings)

When the game starts my first goal is to get 2 gas cans in the generator:
- On the way to grabbing the gun I take the gas can in the burnt corpse room on the left
- There'll always be at least 1 gas can right next to the generator
This is the first room with gauranteed gas

After unlocking the door in the office I save the game, then I run straight for Delisle's corpse in the lounge area (through the broken room and into the vent) After learning the dog tag code, I reload my save.

I crawl into the storage room next to get the valve, then replace it and turn it... then save once again.

From here you want to now run through to the maintenance area to get Stafford's dog tag:
- There's various ways to do this, but it is advisable that you try to find 1 meat/flare and 1 grenade, the meat is for the rat tunnel and the grenade is to break the door(s) to the pillbox

After finding out the code, load your last save and turn on the generator with at least those 2 gas cans in it, get the wrench from Stafford's locker and go to the prison.

Find a way to destroy the locked wooden door on the right side, hopefully you got a:
- Explosive barrel
- Heavy object to throw
- Grenade
- Nearby explosive trap

Quickly unscrew the vent and open the prisoner cell, this can get hairy but if you get caught you can escape easily, when you go for the cutters hide behind the prisoner and the beast will eat him instead of you, allowing you time to run out and into the soldier's quarters.

Make your way to the shut off electrical box on the far left side of the area, use the cutters on the lock and switch it on:
- If you get cornered here, don't do anything risky and evade the beast, even if it takes more time

Search the barracks beds for the comms room key (it's ok if this takes a minute or two)

After getting the arsenal code, head back to the office, try to bring back 1 gas can if possible. Then save at the office, and add more gas to keep the generator going for a little longer (if needed)

Head towards the roman tunnel area in the arsenal, turn on the pump and crawl through (save in mines if wanted)

The roman tunnels are easy to run through and the shotgunner isn't too hard to avoid, I HIGHLY recommend killing him for the shotgun, but it's time consuming so it's up to you.

Unlock the storage to the arsenal and proceed, once again don't be too risky at this point in the run, if the beast is blocking your path wait or deliberately make him flee. You will need 1 explosive OR bullet to make it to the dynamite... then return back to the central bunker to the final area.
*Remember the game saves for you when blowing up the dynamite

I recommend killing the beast instead of booking it for the exit as I personally struggle with the crates too much, use any collected grenades and bullets (this section more than any other benefits from a heaping spoonful of LUCK)

And like that, I finished 4 minutes under the required time despite time loss for killing the shotgunner and killing the beast.

Tips
Some of these may be obvious, and watching speedruns explains a lot of these but here are various things that help to know:

!! More than anything, do a normal run or two before trying any speedrun, getting the feel of areas like the Roman Tunnels, Arsenal and Arena are beyond useful !!

*Bullets and grenades are hands down the most useful items in the run, anytime you come across them take em.

**Make sure to set a switch key for the cutters, wrench, grenade and meat/flare

Early Game

- At the start of the game go for the revolver bullets in the cabinet to skip boisrond's dialogue

- Save after putting in the office door code, so you don't have to remember 2 codes when loading back after finding Delisle.

- Check the dog tag found in the locker room, it almost always gives a locker code and is worth getting the additional items when you are there.

- Check the shelves in the storage when grabbing the valve, if you can find any bullets, meat, flare or explosive grenades that's very helpful.

Maintenance Run

- If you haven't spotted meat/ a flare for the rat tunnel yet, the workshop may have meat, and IF YOU ARE LUCKY you may be safe in the tunnel without anything (depending on corpse spawns)

- To blow open the door + barricade to the pillbox, throw a grenade on the floor inbetween the 2 lines on the wall outside the doors.
Notice the two dark lines on the right wall, drop a grenade between here
*If you have no grenade yet, quietly walk through the wide open maintenance room in hopes of finding one, or IF YOU ARE LUCKY the game may spawn an explosive trap outside the pillbox that'll blow open the way in.

Prison

- If the prison doesn't spawn you a suitable option to break the wooden door and/or you have no grenade, check the left room in the prison for anything at all, if you're SOL then you may want to do another attempt.

- If the beast chases you as you open the vent, flip the cell for the prisoner and quickly hide in there, the beast is scripted to kill the prisoner rather than you. Here's a screenshot of the prisoner taking one for the team so I can continue the run.

Soldier's Quarters

- Traps in the soldier's quarters are arguably more dangerous than any other section due to backtracking, remember you can disable traps with cutters.

- The communications key is always on a barracks bed, however it may sometimes hide under a helmet, pillow or in a trough.
This time it was in Picart's trough

- Look in the comms room for anything useful.

Roman Tunnels

Small time save: When turning on the electrical box and starting the water pump, you can jump on top of a floating barrel onto some shelves and crouch on it to flip the electrical switch.

- You can stack boxes to vault the barricade in the lower tunnels and reach the detonator quickly (however I'm not good at this)

- The tunnels often have bullets/shells strewn around.

- Killing the shotgunner is a good move if you have at least 1 shell already or if you find any in the tunnels (You may stumble across more shells in the arsenal and final area of the game)
*Best way to kill him is a grenade or molotov, I used a molotov because I was VERY LUCKY and got the lighter from the dog tag in the locker storage room.

Arsenal

- It's important you know the layout of the storage well before attempting any sort of run, leave traps untouched as the beast most likely will wade through them and flee.

- It's common that the beast will start knocking down wooden barriers in here, which you should try to use to your advantage when escaping.

Beast Arena

- On my successful run I killed the beast so here's some advice for how:
1. 1 well timed grenade on a wooden bridge is all it takes, as long as you get the timing right when the beast walks over it you can make it die without even shooting it off a ledge.
2. The shotgun is VERY useful here as it can destroy the wooden bridges
3. As long as you have 2 paths to access the far side of the arena, you can effectively stall the fight for as long as you want, once you get how the beast reacts to you, this section isn't the worst.
