Rift Wizard 2 is great on Steam Deck! But you do have to follow some steps to get it playable first.

Launching the Game
The game will crash on launch unless you fix the resolution. Follow these steps to do so:
1. Open the settings for the game (go to the page for the game in your library and click the gear on the right side).
2. pick "Properties..."
3. under "General", for "Game Resolution" select 1600x900 (you can also try 1920x1080). Enable "Set resolution for internal and external display". For "Launch options" select "Windowed".
Controls
Go to the game in your library and select the controller icon on the right side of the screen. Press where it says "Browse Community Layouts for games without official controller support" and go to the "Community Layouts" tab. Hopefully you see the layout called "Rift Wizard 2 with radial movement" by hpp3 which is my control scheme.

This scheme has everything you need to play Rift Wizard 2 efficiently and comfortably on the Steam Deck.

  • Use the left trackpad to move. Touch and drag to select a direction, then click the trackpad to submit.
  • Use the right trackpad for the mouse if you ever need it (for example for checking vision).
  • R4 and L4 (the grip buttons) let you check threat and vision.
  • the "start button" (the three horizontal lines near X and Y) opens the spellbook where you can learn spells and skills. You can reorder spells by holding L5 and moving up or down on a spell.
  • The left stick is bound to a radial menu for spellcasting. The spell in slot 1 is up, and the rest of the slots go clockwise up to slot 8.
  • Y for space, which waits
  • X to tab, which targets closest enemy.

Typical spellcasting works like this: left stick up to choose spell 1. Press B to cancel or X to cycle through targets. Use the d-pad or mouse to manually adjust targeting. Press A to confirm.

Typical movement is using d-pad if you are lazy or the left trackpad for precise 8-way movement. Can also use the right trackpad (mouse) to move.

When you are done a level use R5 (the ring finger button) to auto pickup.

Have fun!

@Peter thanks for the catch. It seems like it got unpublished somehow. I've reuploaded it.

It runs like a dream but I can't seem to find your control scheme.
