Caution
This is not spoiler free!
This is for early game + some hints you may or may not missed in early midgame
Read on your own risk!!!
Do not
- do not build you base at spawn. You will waste time travelling
- do not bother with cooking early game
- do not pickup everything
- do not be scared of night at early game. for YOU It's just a time
Do list
- Craft a push cart AND USE IT. Make's your hauls more plentifull
- Collect light sources. Currently they work even at "night"
- Haul water tanks to your base. There is no reason for them to be anywhere else
- You can buy snacks for money you occasionally find in office desks. It's perfect for early game as you don't waste slots for meat
- check email photos. Some nice recipies are there and you don't wanna miss those
- touch items even if you don't have an invetory space.
The science team in GATE facility have a preschooler mindset.
That means the object doesn't exist in their mind (and crafting recipies) until you hold an item for a first time
- get a habit to "touch" various doors. Most locations in this game are designed to be hard to reach only once! Also If you feel you wen't to far there are usualy a passage right back to where you begun (do not try to find it. It's just a fun fact to annoy you)
Base todo list
Get a battery chain (5 is enough for workbench + fridge + repair station + heater)

Fair note. Apparently there is more eficient way to manage batteries. I'm no scientist and I won't copy someone's guy work until I figure it out myself, so go read another manual :)

Get a water wall

get 3 planters (enough to sustain 1-2 players

Get 2 cookers with pans
Keep in mind 1 is plenty for beginning but at some point cooking got painfull so I suggest getting 2 to begin with

Make sure your cooking spot doesn't eat your batteries at night
Level solves your troubles
Where to put a base (suggestion)
This is optional build whenever you want!.
There are probably better places to put a base but this one is my favourite because:
- close to office level 3
- close to manufacture
- close to pool
- close to lab with soil for farming
- close to 3 robots you are supposed to kill
- nothing spawns in immediate proximity

Here I provide a visual guide where to put a base:

Turn right

Forward

Left

Almost there

There you are

Base features

Elevator access

Manufacturin + early office 3
I want to kill "X"
The dog
Easy way
You can chease dog if you craft 2 arbalets and chain shoot them.
It takes 2 bolts to kill a dog so you can avoid getting damage altogether
Hard way
Generally you can kill a dog with wooden bat with no armor barely surviving.
Of course you can increase your odds with journal armor and iron pipe bat.
How to get less damage
When the dog is charging go out of it's way

The robot
Easy way
Craft a chopinator and make robot walk into it. Works like a charm.
Hard way
I generally suggest against meeleing it.
Arbalet works but is a wastefull way to kill it.
Also, You'll need to plan your route to not back into a dog or something
I'm a YouTuber seeking the content
You can Actually kite the robots to floor 3 into electrified water (the one you teleport above of after first dimension travel). While this method is 100% free (excluding the need to access floor 3, I would not recommend it to anyone.
This method is relatively easy to pull off, with few unexpected benefits (robot will kill everything in it's path)

The annoying lil bug
Easy way
What is wrong with you?
How to get less damage
When it jumps just move aside. You can easily kill it without any damage

Tribal alien
How to get less damage
When he charges it's shot keep moving sideways. He'll miss

Soldier
How to get less damage
Soldiers use a gun. And in early game it's better that yours. Close the distance and whack-a-mole
I want "X" resource
Screws
Level 3 office

Planks
smash anything wooden
- tables
- couches
- chairs
- metal benches (???)

Plastic
- You can smash plants for extra plastic

Coil
Smash displays

Hose
There is a small storage room in labs on office level 2 (near elevator to level 3)

Soil/test tube
Check labs on office level 2 (near elevator to level 3)

Antiverse wheat
You have to get to level 3 office and teleport to another dimension

Magazine
Generally can be found in offices but I notice more of it on level 3

Seeds (tomato)
Check the labs on office level 2 (near elevator to level 3)

GUN
Craft a hacking thing. Hack this door.
If you don't know where this door is then HOW DARE YOU even trying?

Notice. If you somehow run out of resources in early game you are kinda screwed as the first place resources respawn in required you to kill at least 3 robots and some other stuff
Early game point's of interest
Army backpack + bucket location
just go down there

fridge in office kitchen
In the same room as you seen on screenshots above there is a kitchen. Take a fridge from there to your base

Soil for farming
In front of level 3 elevator on level 2

Anvils
On office level 3 in supply room (near elevator)

How do I get to
Office level 3
cheasy cheap way
Get into the vents in this room

Unlock the door.
Crawl up on broken stairs (it's possible)
You are there. congrats!

objectively better and comfortable way requiring some prep time
Craft energy brick.
Make sure you have weapons
Find elevator to level 3.
While looking at it turn left and keep going
You should see this room

The blue gate leads you do huge text saying LEVEL 3 pointing to level 3 elevator

There you'll have to go through portal ONCE. Make sure to find another exit in that dimension
HINT
In that dimension you can find geiger counter and tiny forklift.
The location is small and I don't fell like explaining it right now

Don't forget to unlock the door once you teleported back to the facility (silo 2 door)

Manufacturing
Kill 3 robots.
Craft hacking terminal
Hack into silo 3
(spooky part)
Get at least one energy thing in foggy place.
Power up the forklift (if you don't know which why are you even reading this)

Great guide. I have played the game a bit during "Early access", but I have never found a good base location outside of spawn.
I see that there are some friction here to your base suggestion, I'll take it to heard and go try it out

horrid take on base location lol

One can learn a lot by studying military tactics and logistics for your own base building games and RTS titles. Fortifying spawn and keep it as a main resource hub/manufacturing center is never a bad idea. It'll keep you right and cozy until you are ready to craft and prepackage a FOB (forward operating base) with the basic essentials you'll need to extend your area of operations and gather materials to take back to spawn in bulk for lengthy resupply gathering missions.

I had spawn developed to what i thought was an appropriate amount and i thought i was ready for progression. nope. wasn't ready. that floating three eye'd tentacle freak pretty much keeps halting my progress. I was certainly NOT ready. I needed to fill my backpack with so many more grinder blades to try and push even harder forward and get the material blueprints for the x-ray turrets. got stalled at home and hentai'd on repeat trying to resupply and cook more soups for a prolonged outing without them.

The fountain is ok midgame, but early game and late game you will have to make small bases at points of interests.

The home outside of home becomes a requirements with the hydroplant
Timid_Dragon 16 Apr @ 7:21pm
the fountain between spawn and trams is an infinite water source. it is a square of water that looks greenish-algae covered stone. just down the steps from the guard in the shack that sells peas. infinite water, cart teleporter, tram access, infinite bathwater, bathroom close by that constantly spawns cheap meat for MANY soups.

I don't see why spawn is such a terrible base. its got access to everything if you dont mind a light amount of hoofing it. I once you start getting the layout of the facility memorized by traveling it becomes thoughtless to find whatever you need. though i may relocate my base to somewhere closer to later stage resources for simple convenience. but i haven't found a suitable spot that peaks my builders joy sense yet.

In super early game it's beneficial to base near office elevator. I bet I've writted it down somewhere. Appreciate your opinion
AnvilKnight 19 Feb @ 9:54am
(do not build you base at spawn. You will waste time travelling) why ? your near trams and reactor pipe plus your near cart respawn aka loot teleporter

No problem. I am playing single player. I didn't loose too much of value. A bed, a few water coolers, some stuff I didn't know was missing. I could have set traps etc but found it easier to just move back to the cafeteria. There are bugs there but they don't seem to be able to destroy anything.
cobreen  [author] 9 Feb @ 12:53pm
To be fair there was a dog spawn. It's just that I play in multiplayer and initially we suppressed the dog spawn by player presense. Forgot about that, sorry
Modified Shopkeep 9 Feb @ 10:57am
And now a robot showed up. I'm moving back to spawn. I'll deal with the extra walking.
