Go to folder: \SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition\DATA
Right click on file properties DARKSOULS.exe
In the "Compatibility" tab set compatibility with Windows 8 AND!!! Set the program to "run as administrator" for all users in the "Compatibility" tab.
Apply and try.

This trick works with a bunch of other old games too.
