Getting started
Hey there fellow survivors! Welcome to my guide on surviving in DayZ! Wether you've played before or just getting started this guide will help you on your adventures! ALL of the things you read in this guide will be from my personal experiences in DayZ! To start, try to find a town that has a name. When you have found that town you should grab your phone or tablet and download "iZurvive". It is a really useful app if you know how to use it. iZurvive shows you where you can find vehicles, military loot and even water pumps and ponds! It will not show you where you are though, knowing where you are depends on your navigation skills. Once you have found your town you can start following roads that will lead you to your destination. For fresh spawns, I'd reccomend checking out Elektro and Cherno for guns, weapons, ammo, backpacks, etc. After you're geared up from Elektro and Cherno (other coastal towns too!) you're set to head to places like Myshkino tents and the North West Airfield where you can gear up with military grade gear!
Food
Food is very important in DayZ! I reccomend that you get to bright green energized. Food is very common in buildings but there will be times when you can't find ANY food in buildings or don't have anything to open a can of food with. You can use knives, axes, and a can opener to open cans. Apple and berry trees are important in a situation where you can't find food or dont have anything to open your cans with. Apple trees will not always give you apples the first couple of tries. Just switch to another tree until you find apples then go back to the other. Berry bushes are also good, they only give two types of berries: Red and Blue
Red is good, blue is bad
Here is a little rhym I came up with
If the berries are blue, they are bad for you
If the berries are red, you won't end up dead
Being stuffed is explanatory, you drunk or ate too much.
Water
Water is a little more important than food. Your water goes down quicker, so you need to stay hydrated. Ponds and wells are great for water if you have a canteen or water bottle or if you dont even have anything to drink. Finding something to drink is the same as food, so nothing else really to explain. Water can make you stuffed too.
Status Effects
    Hydration and Energy:
  • When water falls to 0, the Survivor loses 5 health/s and 1% blood/s.
  • This would be at RED
  • When energy falls below 100, the Survivor begins to lose 1 health/s and 0.5% blood/s
  • This would also be at RED

    Bleeding:

  • When you are bleeding, blood spurts out of you. You have a maximum of 5000 blood and when your blood gets down to 500, you go unconcious.

    Sickness:
  • Over eating: Vomiting
  • Light Food Poisoning: Blood loss and increased water loss.
  • Medium Food Poisoning:
  • Blood loss and increased water loss.
  • Vomiting
  • Chemical Poisoning
  • Rapid blood and health loss.
  • Greatly increased water loss.
  • Repeated vomiting.
  • Blood Type Incompatibility: Death

    Broken Bones:
  • The player will only be able to move whilst proned, can not stand nor vault, but can still crouch. The player will fall to a proned state if attempting to move if not proned.
  • Causes of Broken Bones:
  • Being injured by other survivors
  • Being injured by zombies
  • Falling from a height
  • Morphine Auto-Injectors are used to heal broken bones (instant after use) and using Splints which
  • are made by combining 1 stick and 1 rag.
    Fractures:
  • The character is constantly moaning, but he can still walk. This can be caused by falling, zombies, and other survivors. A morphine will fix that and so will splints.

    Humidity:
  • Exposure to rain or submersion in standing water. Stay out of water and rain, if raining, try your best to make it to a building and either wait it out or log and join a different server.

    Temperature:
  • Temperature effects are commonly: I am warming up or I am cooling down.
  • If you're overheating find a pond or take off everything
  • If you have hypothermia try to find a heat pack or build a fire. If you are soaked try to find new clothes
Weapons and combat
WEAPONRY
Melee
Melee weapons are common in houses, not much is needed in this sections. However, fire axes (great melee weapon) can be most commonly found in fire stations.
Guns
Towns with police station are where you will find guns. Make sure to check the police stations thoroughly (like under the bed and on the roof) for guns. You will commonly find Glocks and CR75s. You can also find MP5s, skorpians and PM73s. Helicopter crash sites are great for AUGs, M4s, and ammo for those guns. You can also find FNX45s and engraved 1911s at helicopter crash sites. Myshkino tents and the North West Airfield are two examples of military gun spawn locations. I've found PM73s, AKMs, AK74s, M4s, and shotguns at both locations. However, you can find more I just haven't ;)
COMBAT
Melee
I can't say much here since I only seem to get in gun fights but I'll say what I can. When you want to hit somethings/someone, use the curved part of the crosshair and try to center that on someone's chest or head. It hits anywhere in the curved part if you were to close off the top.
Guns
Unless you actully aim, its the same as the last part: it hits anywhere in the curved part if you were to close off the top. Thats not all I have to say though. This game has bullet drop and actual projecticles, it does not use a ray-casting system (what CoD has). It takes a mosin 2 seconds to hit something solid from 400 meters away. While both types of combat can ruin your gear, bullets to it quicker, especially shotguns. Any ammo that is not pristine will slowly damage the gun. I had a sawed off mosin and atfer about 10 shots of damaged ammo my gun was damaged. You can repair damaged firearms to worn with a gun cleaning kit
What is the worst thing in combat of anytype?
Fracture and broken bones. A fractured or broken right arm will not allow you to shoot. A fractured leg just makes your character moan. A broken leg will not allow you to walk, you will be stuck in prone until healed.
