Fix weird glitchy lines on Steam Deck
By わくわく
If you experience weird glitchy lines on your Steam Deck after second character has been introduced on a train,
than follow this guide to fix it.

I devided the tutorial into two parts.
Short and long guide.

  • First part is the short guide (for people that know their way around the dek)
  • Second part is a long tutorial (for those that are new/er to deck)

By the way, this exact fix also works on Resident Evil 1 HD Remake glitches.

That being said, let us begin!

Glitch examples - The Lines

Short Tutorial (for experienced)
  1. Set a custom proton GE-Proton7-49. Download it using using ProtonUp-QT.
  2. Before runing the game, delete the proton files in Developer options, just in case.
  3. Set the Launch option: DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%
  4. Launch the game and wait for 5 min or so.
  5. Enjoy a glitchless game.
Long Tutorial (for newbies)
For this fix you will need:
  1. A custom proton version called GE-Proton7-49.
  2. A launch command option set before game launches.
  3. Deleting proton files (clearing the shader cache just in case).
Long Tutorial, Part 1 - Downloading GE Proton 7-49
In order to install custom Proton GE you need to enter Desktop Mode.

1A - Entering the Desktop Mode
So in order to enter a Desktop Mode, click a STEAM button.
than on screen choose POWER at the bottom, and than choose Switch to Desktop.

1B - Downloading ProtonUp-QT
Once a Desktop Mode has been loaded, open the app called Discover
(a blue handbag icon, it should be at the lower left corner by default).

Inside the Discover store, in upper left corner you should see a typing field.
Select it and press the (X) button to pop-up up a virtual keyboard.
Type "protonup" in there and you should see ProtonUp-QT and an Install button.

1C - Installing custom proton GE-Proton7-49
Once opened you should see this:

Click the Add Version button.
Now on a new window, under Compatibility tool choose GE-Proton, and under Version find GE-Proton7-49, Select it, hit Install.

Wait for it to install (a progress bar will be shown at the bottom of the main window)

After it's done, close ProtonUp-QT app and switch to Gaming Mode by clicking
the Return to Gaming Mode icon on the desktop.

Long Tutorial, Part 2 - Setting up Launch option & Custom Proton GE
2A - Setting a Game Launch option
After you clicked Retrurn to Gaming Mode icon in Desktop Mode, you will be
brought back to, well, a Gaming Mode.

Once there, open up a Resident Evil 0 HD Remake game in your library and click the ⚙️ icon.

Choose Properties.

When a new window opens up choose General tab, than on the right side
scroll down to find a LAUNCH OPTIONS.
Once there touch the empty field and type the following EXACLTY as shown! (dont gorget the space after =1 and before %command%):
DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%

2B - Setting a Custom Proton GE
Now select the Compatibility tab, and check the cehckbox on the right where it's saying
"Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool".

After that select this box

And scroll to find GE-Proton7-49, select it, exit the properties window and Launch the game.
.
Long Tutorial, part 3 - Finishing
Now that everything is doen, there is just one more small thing to do. It's probably not needed
but do it just in case shader cache is corrupt i guess. It wont hurt~

Click the ⚙️ icon on a Resident Evil 0 HD Remake game in your library again

And this time select Developer and than Delete Proton Files
.

Now just launch the game and wait for it to load. The Steam logo will spin for around 5 min.
That's normal, it's just downloading fresh shaders (i think). It's just first time, after that it will load normally.

Enjoy the game and please leave a comment or if you have a question.

Now let's just hope that CAPCOM doesn't break the game with an update LoL. 😋

@CherlyPliskin Did you try restarting the game, updating deck?
I still play the game and have no lines. I almost finished the game.

Didn't work. I use a Steam Deck OLED as well. The game just sits on a black screen after the Capcom logo.
