[1] Intro & Controls
So, starting with the basics

Ashes

You play as this little buddy here called "Ashes." It is a small creature that wants to protect the oldest tree on Earth (Also called as "Gaia") from Humanity, who is trying to cut it down.

Gaia

This is Gaia, the oldest tree on Planet Earth. Plant other trees as defense and kill the filthy humans if necessary just so you can protect it

[2] Shop
Starting off with the basic of the basics, we'll talk about The Shop

So, The Shop is an area featuring 6 buying shadows that surround Gaia. These shadows materialize at the end of each wave, offering a variety of upgrades and attacks for purchase using points earned from collecting human ashes. Be cautious, though—the price for each shadow will increase with each wave!

< Points

< Human ashes.

While human ashes are the main currency for your shop purchases, be cautious—ashes left unattended will disappear after a while! If you’re busy fighting off waves of humans, make sure to carve out a moment to gather those ashes before they vanish into thin air. Every pile counts!
You can collect them by simply standing on them :)

Refresh Shadow

Among the buying shadows, one stands out as the refresh shop shadow. Purchasing from this shadow refreshes... well... the shop, presenting a new array of upgrades and attacks. Be mindful, though. Each time you use the refresh shop, its price increases, eventually capping at 300 points. Strategize wisely to make the most of your points and continuously improve your POWER.
[3] Defend Gaia

This is the main and central area of the map. See those little black dots surrounding Gaia? These are planting spots where you can plant trees to defend Gaia.

Each tree you plant serves as a defensive unit, helping to protect Gaia from incoming threats. Strategically planting and managing these trees is crucial for ensuring Gaia's safety and maximizing your defenses.

So go on, get close to them and interact with them to plant a little tree! But be careful, humans can cut the trees down, so you'll need to be vigilant and ready to defend your planted trees as they defend Gaia.

Rows

Once you fill a row full of trees, another row of black dots will appear surrounding them, extending your defensive perimeter and providing additional space to plant more trees. This expansion not only increases the number of trees you can plant but also enhances your defenses, creating multiple layers of protection around Gaia.

This process goes on forever and ever, it never ends. When you complete the second row, a third one will appear, extending your defensive perimeter even further. And so it goes on and on, with the fourth row, the fifth row, and beyond.

With each new row of planting spots, you gain the opportunity to reinforce your defenses and fortify your position against increasingly challenging threats. Strategically planting trees in these expanded areas is key to building a formidable defense that can withstand even the most relentless assaults.

Seeds

Running low on cash for seeds to defend Gaia? No problem! At the start of each wave, a generous scattering of seeds appears all over the map. To claim them, just step inside their subtle dark circle and stay put for a few seconds. But don’t wait too long to get them—these seeds vanish after a while, just like human ashes.

The time before they vanish does get a bit longer with each wave, but don’t get too comfy. Snag them while you can!
[4] Trees
The trees! Yes, yes, yes, yes, of course... The trees are very important. All of them behaves differently, and some are very important too.
Before everything, just a quick reminder here...

🌺You can alternate between which tree you want to plant by using [J] or [K]
🌼You can also show the tree planting spots in the row by using [C]

So, let's start with the-

Oak Tree

The Oak Tree is the most basic tree on the game. While it doesn't attack, it boasts high resistance, making it a sturdy barrier against enemy attacks. It serves pretty much as a normal tree. And just like every other tree in the game, It can be bought in the shop!... Don't know why you'd do that though... Although, one good thing about it is that it boost resistance.

Pine Tree

Now, the Pine Tree, on the other side... It is a offensive one. It fires fast bullets that are shaped like a cone. It has a nice long range, making it one of the best starter trees in the game. Cool, eh? Not only that, but it also boost the fire rate!

< Pine Attack Also called as "Long Bullets"

Half-Sphere Tree

The Half-Sphere Tree is a unique offensive unit. It shoots a small disc-shaped projectile that gradually grows larger over time. However, it has very short range and the bullet is quite slow, making it more suited for close-range defense. While it may not be the speediest or most long-reaching, it's expanding projectile can pack a punch when in the right time. It also boost the size of all tree bullets.

< Half-Sphere attack Also called as "Wide Bullets"

Ico Tree

The Ico Tree unleashes a wave of six bullets with medium range in a circular motion. These bullets take the form of small and slow icosahedrons. Heh, icy. It add 1 bullet.. Yeah, that's all about 'em

< Ico attack Also called as "Spread Bullets"

Uh... This tree right here?

The Tube Tree, Cylinder Tree, or whatever you want to call it, is one of the best trees to get. It boasts an impressive combination of literally INFINITE range and a lightning-fast twin bullets. However, the bullet itself is thin and small, so accuracy may not be its strongest suit. But hey, who needs accuracy when you've got speed and range, right?
... Right...?

Uhh... It boost the bullet speed...

< Tube attack Also called as "Twin Bullets"

Apple Tree

Now, the last one, the Apple Tree! This one's a real treat. It fires a burst of three red bullets that resemble apples, giving new meaning to the phrase "an apple a day keeps the enemies away!"... No, wait... Wait, what was the phrase again?

With it's long range and good speed, this tree packs quite a punch. It's fast, strong, fruity projectiles make this tree my favorite one :)

It boost bullet damage

< Apples Also called as "Burst Bullets"
[5] Modes
So, you might have noticed that in the start of the game, you can choose between a lot of diferent Ashes. But what do each one of them do? Hm... Let's see...

Enoki
The default and starter character. It starts with one Slap Attack and 30 Oak Trees. Not much special stuff about it, it is just a normal character.

Gardener
The Gardener Ashes is a nice one. It starts with 30 Pine Trees, 30 Oak Trees (60 Trees in total) and no attacks at all. With this character, the only way to attack is by using the trees, as the shop doesn't allow you to buy any attack or offensive upgrade for it.
It is quite fast, coming with 5 walking tentacles.
And as mentioned before, all you can buy in the shop are the trees and their upgrades... and upgrades for Gaia too.

Hat
The Hat is... certainly something... Not the best, but good anyways. It starts with one Pillars Attack and 30 Half-Sphere Trees. Although not very fast or accurate, it sure is very stylish.

Boy
The Boy is a simple one. It starts with 30 Pine Trees and one Bomb Attack.
Make sure to plant the Pine Trees strategically, because the Bomb Attack sure isn't a nice attack to have as a starter

Enokat
(Enoki Cat)
The Enokat is the fastest starter in the game. It starts with 30 Oak Trees, 7 Walking Tentacles (Very Fast) and one Slap Attack.

Spiky
The Spiky is one character that I recommend relying on the trees at the start of the game, due to low accuracy with the starter attack.
It starts with one Spike Attack and 30 Apple Trees

Tauroki
(Taurus Enoki)
The Tauroki is a violence-only character. It is unable to buy trees, has no starter tree, and has The Jaws Attack as the starter attack. It is very strong and powerful, but not very fast, considering it only has 2 Walking Tentacles

Infinoki
(Infinite Enoki)
The Infinoki is just like Enoki: Starts with 30 Oak Trees and one Slap Attack. But, this time, it has no limits for wave. The max wave Enoki can reach is 30, but Infinoki can reach infinite waves

It is the last one to unlock
[6] Attacks
The game contains A LOT of attacks and upgrades. From some that are incredibly OP, to some that are... eh...
You can create combos of attacks by buying them in The Shop!

Just a friendly reminder, attacks work on randomly-generated queues rather than precised calculations, so buying the same attack twice or more won't stack up the damage dealt or something similar.
Keep also in mind that Ashes will only use 1 tentacle per attack :)

let's start with the ATTACKS:

SLAP

The Slap Attack is a basic swing attack that initiates combat with a wide, sweeping motion. While not a powerful attack, the Slap Attack is ideal for attacking multiple foes at once in a medium range. It can be identified as a Neon-Pink Tentacle

HEX Code: #FF009B
< Ashes Enoki with the Slap Tentacle

Attack motion

Upgrade in the shop

SPEAR

The Spear Attack is a precise and piercing strike with extended range, making it ideal for attacking enemies from a distance. Remembering that it is only accurate towards 1 enemy. It can be identified by a Kiwi-Green Tentacle

HEX Code: #90E637
< Ashes Tauroki with the Spear Tentacle

Attack motion

Upgrade in the shop

HAMMER

The Hammer Attack is a nice vertical strike, resembling the swing of a hammer. While it has a small range, the attack is not only (slightly but noticeably) faster than the previous ones but also covers a medium area directly into the nearest enemy, making it effective for close proximity. It can be identified by a Lynx-Screen-Blue Tentacle

HEX Code: #2ABBE2
< Ashes Tauroki with the Hammer Tentacle

Attack motion

Upgrade in the shop

SPIKES

The Spike Attack involves spawning a line of 5 spikes from the ground, targeting the nearest enemy. The attack is long-ranged, but lacks accuracy. The spikes erupt sequentially, creating a path of destruction that can catch multiple enemies, similar to the pillars. It can be identified by a Palomino-Gold Tentacle

HEX Color: #DCAF00
< Ashes Spiky with the Spike Tentacle

Attack motion

Upgrade in the shop

TORNADO

The Tornado Attack summons a small black tornado that lasts for a few seconds. This swirling vortex deals damage to any enemies that come close to it, creating a temporary zone of damage. It can be identified by a Pink-Condition Tentacle

HEX Color: #F897DB
< Ashes Spiky with the Tornado Tentacle

Tornado

Upgrade in the shop

BOMB

Upgrade in the shop

So, going into the strong and powerful attacks, we'll start with The Bomb. The Bomb Attack involves throwing a spiked bomb toward the nearest enemy. It has a long range and, different from the previous attacks, this is the first one that can't be identified at all/doesn't add a tentacle.

The bomb hitting an enemy

Bomb's explosion

JAWS

The Jaws Attack unleashes a formidable sideways crocodile jaw, delivering the strongest and most accurate strike in the game. With a medium range but a wide radius, this attack can devastate multiple enemies caught within the bite's area of effect. Its sheer power and precision makes it one of the best attacks to have in the game
It can't be identified

< Ashes Tauroki's bite

PILLARS

Similar to The Spikes, the Pillars Attack calls forth 3 pillars of light from the sky in a straight line, targeting the nearest enemy. Despite it's impressive visual display, this attack suffers from extremely poor accuracy, often missing it's mark.
It can't be identified

CLOUD

The Cloud Attack involves summoning a dark cloud above the targeted enemy. From this cloud, a single lightning strike descends, hitting the enemy directly. Once the strike is delivered, the cloud disappears.
It can't be identified

< Ashes Spiky doing a Cloud attack mid-way a Slap Attack

BIRDS

The Bird Attack summons a flock of birds with a call, striking multiple enemies at once. With a vast radius that nearly covers the entire map, the attack is devastating to enemies caught within it's reach.
Same as the previous ones, it can't be identified

< Ashes Spiky in the middle of an avian attack

METEORS

The Meteors Attack summons dozens of small meteorites to rain down from the sky upon the enemies. With a wonderfully big destruction radius and ultimate attack damage, this is, alongside JAWS, the best attack to have. The attack is also undeniably impressive, making for a visually stunning and stylish display of destruction
It can't be identified

< Ashes summoning the meteorites

< A bunch of meteorites falling and hitting the ground
Also, different from other attacks, the Meteor attack CAN stack up! The more Meteor attacks you buy, the bigger the chance for the attack to be longer. This is due to its queue cooldown, that is roughly ~0,2 seconds.

ROAR

The Roar Attack is a very close-ranged attack, consisting, as expected, of a roar that pushes the enemies away. The Roar Attack isn't necessarily strong compared to other attacks in the game, making it the least powerful attack in the game so far...
It still looks nice, though :)
It can't be identified

< Ashes Infinoki roaring twice
[7] Upgrades
Uff...! That sure was a long section right there! Aah... Going into the next section, we'll talk about the upgrades. They can be bought in The Shop
I'm not going to include the obvious upgrades like "Boost Attacks Damage 10%" or "Gaia Heal 30", because I don't really see a good reason to put them in here, as their names already tell what they do

Walking Tentacle

The Walking Tentacle upgrade increases Ashes' walking speed. Purchasing multiple Walking Tentacles in the shop will further boost Ashes' speed. There are no limits to the number of Walking Tentacles you can acquire, so invest freely to maximize Ashes' agility

< Ashes Enoki with 3 walking tentacles instead of 2

< Walking Tentacle in the shop

Boost Ashes Distance
This upgrade increases the radius within which Ashes can collect human ashes, enabling it to gather them from a longer distance. The more Boost Ashes Distance upgrades you buy, the greater the collection radius will become, up to reaching a point where the collection radius covers the whole map

Boost Ashes Speed
The Boost Ashes Speed upgrade increases the duration that ashes remain before disappearing, allowing Ashes more time to collect them. The more Boost Ashes Speed upgrades you purchase, the longer the human ashes will stay, up to a point where they never disappear

Gaia Add [...] Bullets
The Gaia Add [...] Bullets upgrade grants Gaia the ability to use the type of bullet specified in the upgrade's name. Just like the Walking Tentacle upgrade, there are no limits for how many you can buy. The more of these upgrades you buy, the more Gaia will be able to attack. Just make sure not to buy too many, else it will crash your game :/

Here's a list of all the Bullets Types:

Long Bullets - Pine Tree's Bullets
Burst Bullets - Apple Tree's Bullets
Wide Bullets - Half-Sphere Tree's Bullets
Twin Bullets - Cylinder/Tube Tree's Bullets
Spread Bullets - Ico Tree's Bullets

< Gaia attacking with the Burst Bullets, Long Bullets and Twin Bullets
[8] Foes
Ahh, peace… 'Been a while since I’ve had it. And it won’t be anytime soon, either, BECAUSE WE’RE DIVING STRAIGHT INTO THE ENEMIES SECTION! After all, what’s a defense game without something to defend against?

As metioned before, your enemies are the humans, with various variants and machinery to make them more powerful
Let's Meet The Humans who just can’t seem to leave nature alone...

Human
Let’s kick things off with the most basic foe—the human. These white, cartoony figures are the core of your troubles. Armed with either an axe or some type of gun, they’re here to chop down your defenses or shoot their way through. And don’t expect them to work solo—they almost always come in groups, making them a bigger pain to deal with!

< Human holding an Axe

They can deal up to 4 damage points against trees and Gaia, but they need to be extremely close to attack and their cooldowns are quite slow.
They get stronger with each wave.

< Human holding Axes in both hands

These ones can deal up to 8 or more damage points. They're just like the Normal Human's Axe variation, just with bigger attack damage.

< Human holding a Gun
Like the Human holding an Axe, these ones can ALSO deal up to 4 damage points against trees and Gaia, but they can attack from afar. Don't let them near Gaia AT ALL, since their first shot has no cooldown whatsoever!
This one is more annoying to deal with during the first 3 waves of the game, since they're always in groups.
They get stronger with each wave.

< Three Humans holding Guns

Teamwork makes the dreamwork!

Human (Red Variant)
As if the basic humans weren’t enough of a hassle, there are variants to deal with. And I was thinking my life was hard... Starting from Wave 4, things heat up—literally. Say hello to the Red Humans, the first variant you’ll encounter. These guys aren’t just stronger than their plain white cousins; they’re downright meaner. They can deal A LOT of damage points, and sometimes, if you're unlucky enough, they can spawn as mini-bosses and one-hit Gaia! And here’s a tip: the deeper their shade of red, the stronger their attacks will be. So if you see one that looks like me when I spend too much time with my romantic partner, you're in BIG trouble.

< A Light Red Human and a Normal Red Human, holding Axes

Human (Pink Variant)
Just when you thought things couldn’t get worse, enter the Pink Humans. They'll look purple in the start, but they'll get more vibrant as the waves passes by!
These speedsters are here to ruin your day—and probably Gaia’s, too. They're fast. Like, really fast. The brighter and more neon their pink gets, the faster they’ll zip across the map. If one of these shows up looking like they fell into a vat of highlighter ink, you’d better stay sharp. They might not hit the hardest, but their speed more than makes up for it. Blink, and you’ll miss them—along with whatever they just demolished!

< A Purple Human, not Pink yet, ready to ruin my perfect day

Don't worry, though. As long as you have Apple Trees, you should be more than fine!

< The Pinkest Human I've ever seen in my life
Could this even be considered Pink anymore?

Human (Blue Variant)
Now HERE is where things get weird. For what purpose? Because even I don’t know what the Blue Humans are all about!
Seriously, I didn’t even realize they existed until a few days ago! From what I’ve seen, they seem to be more about style than substance. They also seem to be very rare, popping up just enough to make you wonder what they’re hiding. Are they secretely the best enemy? A reference? A joke by the devs? All I can say is, if you spot one, keep your guard up... just in case... I don't like the way they seem to be standing still sometimes... Feels like they're judging me, I dunno.

< A Human...?

< What is even happening here?

Human (Mini-boss Variant)

After playing for a while, you'll notice a WAY BIGGER variant of the standard Human with an axe. These ones are what I humbly call Mini-bosses. They do way more damage than the normal Human and have much more health as well, making them kinda hard to deal with, principally considering they can appear as early as Wave 5!

Also, yes, they CAN come in the colored variants as well. So if you see a Deep-Red Mini-Boss earlier than you should, all I can say is good luck.

Human (Rocket-launcher Backpack)
Now, the most annoying one...

If you start to look around after Wave 5, you'll notice these red lines coming from far away and aiming at a tree. This means that there's a Human with a Rocket-launcher Backpack. Certainly one of the strongest foes, if not THE strongest!

< Human with a Rocket-launcher Backpack
There it is!
Now, they may look harmless, right? "Oh, just another enemy that'll die to my apple trees..." NO! Unless you have 5 or more rows of Apple Trees, these guys are NOT getting damaged! They stand far away from the rows of trees and let the backpack do its job rather than approaching and attacking with brute force like the previous variants. Which means that, thanks to this person, now you'll have to either walk around and manually kill it, or acquire 500 or so tree seeds just to make rows big enough to reach them.

< Human with a Rocket-launcher Backpack's rockets flying into the Apple Tree

They have an incredible ammount of HP and deal a disgustingly big ammount of damage to your trees, so quit slacking off and pay attention to the red lines.
[9] Bosses
WHOA! That was a MASSIVE section right there! But if you thought Humans were bad, how about we talk about the REAL bosses?

These fellas right here are machinery made by mankind to stop you from protecting Gaia, each one behaving differently from the previous one. Let's waste no time and dive right into them!

BULDOCOPTER

If you reach Wave 10, you'll notice a strange red line aiming for Gaia and a loud echo of honking.

Well, my friend...

This is because you just got face-to-face will the Buldocopter!

With 3000HP, this killdozer right here will ignore every single tree in its way and go straight for the big prize—Gaia! Make sure to attack it with brute force to prevent it from getting close to Gaia, since it can one-hit-kill anything! A tip: it will fly away and change which direction it's coming from when you hit it too many times.

All you need to defeat it quickly without having to do anything is two or more rows of Apple Trees :)

ARAKNAZOR

As another attempt at stopping your unstoppable force, humans now created the ARAKNAZOR and left it at Wave 20! This time, rather than focusing on Gaia, it will focus on the trees surrounding her beforehand.

It has a light beamer in its mouth to deal constant damage to your precious trees as it walks in circles around them... But don't fool yourself. Just because it's attacking the trees first doesn't mean that its main target isn't Gaia. If it spends too much time attacking the trees, it will charge up an ultrabeamer shot and attack Gaia nonetheless, ignoring all the trees in the way.

< Araknazor attacking the trees first

< Araknazor charging up the ultrabeamer shot

< Araknazor attacking Gaia directly, Ashes Infinoki shocked and surprised

TITAN GEAR

If you're still alive even after 29 waves, then you'll notice that something MASSIVE awaits in Wave 30. That is the TITAN GEAR! A Titan Mech made to fully crush your dreams!... Unless you have Apple Trees :)

This beast right here has a whopping 10000HP, so quit reading and get protecting!

Skins!
By the way, did you know that Humans start to look better after defeating the bosses? It's subtle, but still, really cool!

< Humans after you defeat the Buldocopter
(Wave 11 to 20)

< Humans after you defeat the ARAKNAZOR
(Wave 21 to 30)

< Humans after you defeat the TITAN GEAR
(Wave 31 onwards)

For some reason, after Wave 30, Humans simply lose everything. Every weapon, piece of armor and so, disappears.
I guess the devs just didn't make that part of the game yet...
[10] End
So... Woah, yeah... That's it so far. I'll keep my eye out to update this guide ASAP when the game updates or when I discover something more that I didn't include in the guide
I really hope it helped y'all out, because I sure had a lot of work on doing this
Yeah, that's it, have a nice day... or night... or whatever time it is right now for you right now :)

huh... I wonder when the next update will come around...

Guys, it might be a stretch, but I THINK the devs abandoned this game...

Hey @Damocles !
Sorry for the late response—Life’s been a bit busy
Things are going great, though!

About the “Adds/Boosts/Etc.” stuff in the trees’ descs—I’m not sure who they apply to either. My best guess is that they affect all trees since the game’s 'Trees' menu doesn’t specify otherwise. It's just a theory tho, so I’m unsure if it’s worth putting in the guide
About the blue humans, I was planning to reach out to the Dev about them, but I have no idea how to contact them. So, I was thinking of decomp the game to check its files myself. Sadly, Unity games are tough to crack, and I have little experience with encryption methods. Still, I haven’t given up! If I don’t find a definitive answer, that section will sadly have to stay untouched :(

And thank you again! I love helping people find answers, so knowing that my work is making a difference warms my heart!
Have a nice day, night, or whatever time it is for you right now!
See you around! :D

Hey 8, just wanted to drop in again to see how things are going! The guide looks so much better, I love what you've done with it. Wanted to ask if you could specify what you meant by "Adds (etc.)" In the tree descriptions? Does that mean they boost the trees around them? All trees? Just Gaia?

Also, if I could guess at what the blue humans do, I'd say they likely have a higher health pool than normal humans. It makes sense, because enemies' three main stats are damage, movement/attack speed, and health. I might be wrong though, I'll need to test it. Just an idea!

Anyways, thanks for putting so much effort into this, I'm sure many new players appreciate it. See you around!

Hey @Damocles!
Sorry for the late response, I just moved in a new apartment and it took a while for my PC to arrive :/

Yes, thank you very much! I never noticed the price also scaled with the days, thanks for the heads up, I'll be adding that!
And yes, I'm planning on adding ALL enemy variants and bosses as well. It's still in the works though, since there's a very extensive ammount of enemies variants I'm still learning about. All I can ask for now is for you to keep looking out for sudden additions to the guide ;)
As for the seeds during combat; yeah, I forgot to add. But I'll also add it soon! :D

Hope you enjoyed the guide and thanks for the info, you helped a lot.
In case you liked this guide, I would like to say that I'm also working on a guide for SPIDERHECK. It's still in incredibly early stages, but you still may like it :>
Damosheen 13 Dec, 2024 @ 12:56am
Hey, got a couple of additions to the guide, if that's okay?

First! The number of options and the price in the shop scales with the days, adding another option around every 5 days, I think. Also, you didn't mention the seeds that spawn during combat. The duration of the seeds scale as well, along with their value.

I think there may be a limit to how fast your weapons can fire, meaning that its better to pick up 3-6 rather than just stacking more and more. I think the rate increases as you get more weapons, but they aren't linearly related, meaning you will eventually just be building up a queue of weapons.

And I didn't notice anything about the bosses or enemies, in case you wanted to add those. I think there's 4-5 enemy types (not including the bosses) that upgrade every 10 waves.

Anyways, that was a lot and I'm sorry about the huge comment, not meaning to add to your workload. Have a nice day... or night... or whatever time it is right now for you! ;)

Fantastic guide! (even favorited it)
Tho i wanted to point out that you could add 2 things here:
- Pressing "C" reveals the spots where you haven't planted trees yet (good to find out spots you missed)
- The Roar attack isn't here (and i'm curious to what it does exactly)

i know 2 glitches.
1.:Up_IdleOn: sometimes when you place trees and you run out you can place one extra if you are holding the button
2.:Down_IdleOn: sometimes trees will appear but not be there so sometimes you will not be able to find than last area before the this extends
