Hello Fellow Witchers since no one did post this fix I decide to do it and share the solution that I discovered and worked for me (NO THIRD-PARTY PROGRAMS NEEDED) in this guide I will explain to you how to solve the alt tabbing crashes that occurs while playing on Fullscreen Mode.

The Witcher Enhanced Edition Alt+tab crashes fix

Step 1 :
Go to your Steam Library search for The Witcher Enhanced Edition right-click on it go to Manage
left-click on Browse Local Files.

Step 2 :
Look for a folder named System open it then look for witcher.exe then right-click on it and go to properties.

Step 3:
Go to compatibility section and make sure to check the box ( Run this program as an administrator )

Step 4:
Enjoy Alt tabbing your game without the annoying crashes.

And that's it I hope this solution works for you as it worked for me.

Good to know, thanks for the suggestion!
Oddly enough, I don't often have an issue when alt-tabbing, it's pretty rare for me. But, i don't alt-tab too much since i mostly use the overlay....it's just REALLY annoying when it does happen!

Sorry to hear that I tried it on windows 10 and never stumbled on any issues, also there's an alternative fix but it will requires downloading software called Borderless Gaming it forces windowed mode games to run on Borderless Mode which could be useful for old games that crashes or freeze when alt-tabbing and I just tried it with Witcher 1 and works perfectly.

you can find it on github just look for the latest release.

Not sure if this guide is still relevant, but it just popped at the top for me, right after I had a hard alt-tab crash...so, here I am.
Unfortunately, for me, this is not fix but rather created new issues. Windows 11 v.23H2
Ran as Admin no longer allows the in-game Steam Overlay to function, and sometimes causes other issues when I try to open the overlay- like the mouse cursor disappearing.
Also, 50% of the time the game will crash when I try to skip the loading screens and video.
Same happens when running in compatibility mode as well...=(
