My recommendations
These are games I've actually played and can recommend.

Toki Tori 2+
Closest game I can think of in terms of "main" gameplay loop; solving puzzles with your knowledge of how certain animals behave. No road blocks, no unlocks, no combat. It even has a flute you can use to travel around!

Fez
If you loved some of the game's late-late puzzles you gonna love this game too! There's even a secret Fez Easter Egg in Animal Well

BABA IS YOU
Some of the meta-puzzles in AW made think of this game. If you liked post-credit puzzles and you really like to think outside the box, give this game a try!

Rain World
If you liked how Animal Well wasn't hand-holding you and you wished more games were like this, boy you gonna love this game. One of my favourites! If you decide to play this game, do yourself a favour and go entirely blind and don't give up in first area!!

Environmental Station Alpha
Deep, complex and hard as hell metroidvania. Maybe wait for a patch before buying since dev of this game said that there are some issues with running this game on W11.

Games I haven't play but others recommend
Here's a list of games that I cannot personally vouch for but others in the community seem to recommend

TUNIC
Haven't play this on yet, but there's Tunic Easter Egg in AW so that's pretty cool
https://store.steampowered.com/app/553420/TUNIC/

Outer Wilds
It's on my backlog and seems to have similar sense of wonder and exploration to AW.

And of course:
Halo 2 and Halo 3
Have to mention those cuz if I didn't comment section would be filled with those xD

If you think other games should be here, let me know! I'll add those I if think will fit.
P.S. If there're any grama errors let me know and I will fix them, English is not my native language

Animal Well feels like a mix of ESA and TUNIC.

Based ESA enjoyer.
Orlean Knights 4 Jul @ 11:27pm
And I have more nominations:
For pure puzzles I recommend Anti-chamber, Manifold Garden, Engare, Gorogoa
Puzzle game with a visible story: GRIS, Chants of Sennaar
Puzzle game but leans towards action: Inside, Cocoon
Puzzle/Action game with sandbox and open solutions: Transistor, most games from Zachtronics, Hitman (the newer trilogy)
Games I see others recommend but I haven't played: Talos Principle, Obra Dinn, The Roottrees are Dead
Orlean Knights 4 Jul @ 11:17pm
I have to recommend Outer Wilds to you again. It's one of the best exploration & puzzle indie game, if not THE best, I've ever played. If you can beat AW
manticore from start to finish without looking up guides, you can find OW's puzzle just as fascinating, without giving you too much headache.

Edit: spoiler.
Tayls 24 May @ 2:02pm
Blue Prince should be on this list
果狍子 28 Feb @ 5:54pm
totally agree for outer wilds, those two game is curiosity driven for players, plus the game direction is cool
zero hope >:( 18 Feb @ 12:05pm
Within a Deep Forest
Anto2345 4 Feb @ 3:25pm
I can vouch for Outer Wilds, my secont most favourite game ive ever played, please dont look up any spoilers or gameplay if you wish to play it, this game is based on knowledge, meaning you can quite literally finish the game in less than one hour if you know what to do.
