Introduction
Why can't you just download the game and start playing it immediately? What's the reason for all these bugs that the developers can't fix for almost a year now? I'm a PC boy, I have a licensed version of the game (which is an indulgence for us Gods to the ever-poor and hungry developer), but I can't just pick up the game and start playing and enjoying it like the console-haters do. What does this have to do with consoles? This is just to form a contrast between us and them, because they certainly do not have such problems...
And we are talking about an error in which the character is constantly running to the left, because of which to stand still, put your hands off the keyboard and interact with the world around you in a normal way will not work. Fortunately, I found a solution (which worked for me. This does not mean that it will work for you with 100% probability, although it is also possible), which I will share with you now.
By the way, you've replaced that I'm on a wave of hype. Here's a game comes out, a year passes, and here I am.
So, okay, moving on....
Problem solution and its characterization
I'll try to tame my inner graphomaniac, but I'll still tell you what the problem is, where it comes from, how to fix it, and how I found it.
The problem originates from the system driver that allows the computer to recognize joysticks. It is the one that somehow affects the game, even if you don't have any gamepads connected to your computer at the moment. Moreover, you can unplug all the devices and the character will still go left all the time :).
Where did this driver come from? Well, I don't know exactly. I don't think it is pre-installed with the system. Most likely, it was left there after you tried to make the gamepad work in some game. I think that's what happened to me: a little over a month ago I tried to play the leaked builds of POSTAL 3 through XBOX 360 emulator Xenia Canary, and for the sake of it I downloaded a million of all kinds of junk (programs for gamepad recognition) on my computer, because the game in no way wanted to accept my gamepad (dual shock 3). I thought the programs would help me play the game, but it didn't happen... Only later I found out that the game understood it perfectly well from the very beginning, then just to start the game it was necessary to make a certain combination of keys, which I didn't know about... Although I later deleted all kinds of junk from my computer, apparently something remained in the system.
I found out about the solution to the problem from the game forums. They are still trying to find a solution there... Well, or they are just waiting for a gesture from the developer. Anyway, digging through derivative information, I managed to find out that the same problem exists in other games (and it is produced for the same reason!), and the problem is not so much the game, but the engine it is created on. It is Unity, dirty Unity that somehow breaks wonderful games, burying indie developers in the ground! Actually, if the cause of the problem is the same, the solution is also the same.
Remember, I told you about some driver, with the help of which the computer recognizes gamepads and other joysticks? It was night, I wanted to sleep and play, but I was fixing a bug, so I foolishly uninstalled the driver, although I think it could have been simply turned off... You can experiment on your own to see which option is better, you're not little anymore.
What is the driver and how to get to it? It is located in the device manager. Even though we already know that we are not small, I will tell you how to get to the Device Manager, even though I am sure everyone has been in this panel at least once in his life (we are all confident users of Personal Computers, aren't we?). By the way, I'm running win10, by the way.
Method one: my computer - at the top of the toolbar right find “system properties” - scroll to the bottom and under “related options” click on “device manager”. You are there.
Method two: open the control panel (find it in the start menu or by searching for it) - click on “hardware and sound” - under “devices and printers” click on “device manager” (personally, I have the only item of all that is marked with a blue-yellow shield). You're there.
So, once you're in the device panel, you should find the actual device called “HID (Human Interface Devices)”. In the general list I advise you to search from bottom to top, because usually this device is the last one in the list :) (at least that's how it is for me). Expand all components of this device by clicking on the “bird” to the left of the device name, and in the drivers that appear, look for something like “vjoy virtual joystick”. I didn't remember the more precise name - I was in too much of a hurry to get the game started sooner. I also advise you to look for this item from bottom to top, because, again, it will be somewhere at the very bottom of the list (I had it exactly there). And this found driver should be uninstalled (AFTER REMOVING IT YOU MUST RESET YOUR PC!), or just disable it if you care about it. Not sure if the latter will work, but sort of experiment.
P.s. For those of you who are not very smart, I attach a screenshot of what the Device Manager looks like and where the drivers we need are located.
I'm sure you're wondering how removing (neutralizing) this driver will affect gamepad performance in third-party games. As I said earlier, I tested merged builds of POSTAL 3 on my computer through XBOX 360 Xenia Canary emulator using dual shock 3 gamepad. I have nothing else. And so after removing this driver as POSTAL 3 itself, and win10, continued to respond to my gamepad. So the likelihood that you will feel discomfort after uninstalling the driver is pretty low. And if you are still worried, you can back up the driver beforehand, or find a place where you can put it back in place (for example, some site where you can download and install it without any problems). You'll figure it out, in short.
The end
Here comes the end of my acetonic ramblings. I hope this guide permanently gathers a million views, a billion additions to favorites, a trillion reactions and awards, and zero questioning comments, that is, who wouldn't praise me and read me - I've already laid out everything extremely similarly for you, what could possibly be unclear? Besides, I wrote this manual in Office Word, and he claims that it took 50 minutes to write this manual (not to mention the design for styme) and edit it. Appreciate my hard work, please :).
