Use ANY racing pedals as RUDDER
By herrasmies3333
Do you have some old sim racing pedals lying around and would like to use them as rudder pedals?

Well I at least had and couldn't find instructions on how to use them so I figured it out and thought that maybe someone else could also use this info. Also sorry for the bad writing as it's currently 11pm and I have just spent over an hour figuring this out.

Well let's get started

STEP 1:
Install these two programs: (For some reason my links didn't works so you'll have to find them yourself)
UCR: (Found in GITHUB, Creator: Snoothly, Name: UCR)
vJoy: (Found in SOURCEFORGE, name: vJoy -- I found it just by googling "vjoy" and it was the first link)
You'll be needing them both

STEP 2:
Open UCR and create a new profile by clicking "Add profile" Give a name for your profile and choose your pedals as the input device and vJoy Stick 1 as an output device.

STEP 3:
Open your newly created profile (A new window should open) and add a axis merger from the left of the window by clicking the "+" icon next to it. You might first need to click the pause button in the top of the window (square next to the triangle)

STEP 4:
Choose your left pedal as "Axis low" and your right pedal as "Axis high". Then select "Axes, X" as an output Axes.

STEP 5:
Finally press play / start in UCR, Then map the axis you assigned to be used as the rudder in xp12. The axis can be found under "vJoy Virtual Joystick"

I have included screenshots in the images so check them out.

If you need help, feel free to message me and I'll do my best to help. I'm a student from Finland so it might take me a couple of days to respond but I'll do my best.

Thanks and good night :)

The only issue with this is that if you let go of the button while the brakes are still applied, the brakes will get locked in the current position until you press the button again and reset the brakes manually by letting the pedals centre.

To set the brakes up this way:
Add:
- "axes to axes" and "button to filter"
- Set the high and low axes on the "axes to axes" to your throttle and clutch pedals.
- Set the output axes to vJoy "Y" and "Z"
- Set the button filters "filter name" to "filter"
- click on the "add filter" -icon, next to the trash can icon on the "axes to axes" and write "filter" into the "filter name" -field and press "accept"
- In the filter settings, set the input button to a momentary button on one of your controllers.
- Set the "button down filter state" to "Active" and the "Button up filter state" to "inactive"
- Save and press the play button, and you are ready to go.

Hope this helps!

I don't currently have X-Plane 12 installed as it, for some reason, doesn't work on my pc anymore, so I can't test, but I don't see any reason why you couldn't map the middle pedal (brake) as the brakes in-game.

The best way to use the clutch and accelerator for the wheel brakes that I found was using a "button to filter" and an "axes to axes". I set them up in a way where, normally, when using the pedals, no brakes are applied, but when the button is pressed, both of the pedals start controlling the wheel brakes until the button is no longer pressed down. The rudder is still controllable while the brakes are being used. This way, you can use the individual wheel brakes for steering while still being able to steer using the rudder.
