The exception to this is supply going TO the market. Those do have to be manually transported. Having enough storage and granary workers mitigates this issue. For this reason it is advised to have your granaries and storehouses close to your market. If you are having trouble fulfilling a specific resource need even when you have a lot of it, create a granary/storehouse that only allows that one resource and assign a worker to it. They will flood the market with up to 50 of that one resource per family assigned.
