It's possible that you installed some mods before you launched the game for the first time. For example: You installed KnightShift, never started the game, then installed a mod, and only after that did you try to launch the game for the first time. Often, in this scenario, the game fails to launch.

Solution: Uninstall the game, reinstall it, and first launch the clean, unmodded version of the game. Then exit the game, install the mod, and only after that relaunch the game. Also, remember to remove the CD from your computer's drive if you are using a physical version of the game.

Running the game with the Steam overlay often bugs the game or prevents it from launching.

Solution: Go to the main directory of the game and launch it directly via the .exe file.

Run the game in administrator mode and set the appropriate compatibility.

Solution: Go to the main directory with the game, click on the game icon, click - properties, compatibility and set: Run this program in compatibility mode with system windows XP, run this program as administrator. Confirm and try to launch the game.

It is possible that the game does not start due to the lack of exceptions in DEP.

Solution: click Windows + R and type "sysdm.cpl". Go to the advanced tab. In the performance section, select settings, then "Data Execution Prevention". Check the option - enable DEP for all programs and services except those selected below. Add to exceptions all files below, from the main directory of the game:

Game sometimes fails to boot up first time on too high a resolution.

Solution: Run the config.exe file in the game's main directory. Set the resolution to 1400 x 1050 x 32, save and OK.
