This is a list of various tips that I have found useful over my short time playing this game. Please feel free to suggest, as I have done no research other than my own time playing.

These are not well researched or completely perfect tips. Although this list isn't long or comprehensive, and I'm still learning new things as well, I hope this can help simply due to the tiny number of guides for this game. Please feel free to suggest things of your own, and I'll make sure to respond and add it to the list.

Targets

When choosing who to target, it is important to think about what you are trying to accomplish. Does your biggest enemy have many allies to take out? Do you need to capture strong economic centers? How powerful are your enemies?

Generally, if you are looking to take out alliances, you will likely want to pick off the smallest, easiest to invade alliance members one by one. A small supporting army and a large supporting army have a similar effect, and small armies simply draw away firepower from more important and larger armies. Although the rest of the alliance will declare war on you as well, and try to defend the other country, if you are quick enough and attack with multiple armies, you should be able to take them out quickly.

Additionally, when choosing a target that is in an alliance, you should check their claims to figure out what foreign territories they own. If they have many small holdings across large distances, make sure to move your armies into a neutral area or back into your territory after conquering their main areas, and utilize the multi-attack tool to auto target hard to see islands.

When considering how powerful an enemy is, check their stats at the bottom of the screen. These 3 pointers can give you a good idea of how their army compares against yours. If they are weaker in one stat, try to grow your army to surpass them in that area if convenient. Utilize some of the strategies listed below to help you beat them.

Useful Strategies

During battle, there are many small tweaks and strategies you can use to quickly conquer a country or beat seemingly more powerful opponents.

One very useful strategy is to split your large armies into multiple smaller parts near each other that can all attack at once. This will quickly overpower larger ai armies and help you defend against smaller armies fighting you due to an alliance. Smaller armies can also help you conquer land much quicker.

If you want to quickly defeat a small country, I find it best to split your army into about 4 divisions, and equally space them apart around the target country. For alliances, this will help even out the effect of alliance armies, and conquer the country quicker so that you don't have to deal with it for as long. For larger countries, you will probably want to split your armies out along one front, and when stronger armies come to defend, bunch up and divide your armies even more. This will generally work as a strategy for most countries as long as you have a decent amount of strength.
