Fatal Theory is a short, 2D beat 'em up game. You can replay story missions at any time, so no achievements are missable. Only one playthrough is required, but you will need to replay levels to grind for rewards. Expect to spend roughly 4 hours to unlock all achievements. The main objectives for the achievements are:

• Complete all story missions
  
• Complete the side mission (level ?.0)
  
• Purchase all stat upgrades
  
• Reach the max level for all weapons
  
• Clear the Arcade mode
  
• Get 300+ kills in a single Survival run
  
• Obtain a 999+ hit combo

General tips:

• Rely on the special combos as much as possible; you will regain charge while using them. These combos are unlocked after leveling up each weapon.
  
• You can stun-lock airborne enemies into an infinite combo by using the primary attack button while in mid-air. You may need to move left or right to maintain the combo.
  
• Use the "cancel" button to skip the cutscenes before and after each level.

There are 9 story-related achievements that unlock after beating various required missions.

There are 8 unlockable weapons that each need to be leveled up to level 3. The "Vlad" weapon is always equipped after it is unlocked, and a secondary weapon can be equipped at the "wep!" zones in the level select screen. Both equipped weapons gain a set amount of xp after completing certain levels regardless of which weapon you use to kill enemies.

Additionally, you can purchase upgrades for Nick's stats at the "shop" zones in the level select screen. You will need to obtain "MAX" level for the four stats.

Replaying level 9.1 is the fastest way to farm both money and weapon xp. The Black Blade's "Summon Rort" combo (Down-Right-2) is a quick and easy way to defeat Lilith in this level. You will keep your rewards if you quit to the main menu at the credits.

Master Bat

Level up the Baseball Bat to level 3. The Bat is available by default.


Master Vlad

Level up Vlad (ChainSword Blade) to level 3. Vlad is unlocked after completing level 1.1


Master Whip

Level up the Electric Whip to level 3. The Whip is unlocked after completing level 3.1


Master Swords

Level up the 2x Swords to level 3. The Swords are unlocked after completing level 4.1


Master Gauntlets

Level up the Gauntlets to level 3. The Gauntlets are unlocked after completing level 7.1


Master Black Blade

Level up the Black Blade to level 3. The Blade is unlocked after completing level 9.1


Umbrella Strike

Obtain the Umbrella weapon by completing level ?.0 (located to the left of level 9.0)


Master Umbrella

Level up the Umbrella to level 3.


UNSTOPPABLE!!!

Purchase all upgrades for Strength, Defence, Speed, and HP. You will need a total of $23,250 to purchase all upgrades.

COMBO KING!

Obtain a 999+ hit combo.

This can theoretically be obtained in many levels, but there's an easy setup for it in the survival mode. Play as Nick with the Black Blade and head all the way to the right side of the level where the horde of zombies appears. Facing to the right, jump and press the primary attack button (1) close to the edge of the screen to hit and stun-lock a zombie. If done correctly, you will begin ascending with the zombie locked in an infinite combo. You do not need to hold any buttons if you are close enough to the edge of the screen. If you're lucky, you may even lock multiple zombies in the combo to speed up the process.

Props!

Obtain 300+ kills in a single run in Survival.

This is easily the trickiest achievement in the game. You may want to experiment with different weapons to see which one works best for you. I obtained this while using the Gauntlets. Spam the "Wreck" combo (Down-Down-2) to safely clear out most of the hordes in the first, second, third, and fifth waves. Use the "Megaton Punch" combo (Down-Right-1) for larger enemies like the tanks in the fourth wave. Remember to also rely on the infinite combo technique if you get into a difficult situation.

There are five different pre-defined waves that loop repeatedly. You should have obtained your 300th kill by the time you've reached the 3rd iteration of the tank wave. The tanks were the biggest threat in my experience, keep your distance as much as possible to avoid their steamroll attack.

The Hard Way

Clear the Arcade mode.

This mode requires you to complete all of the 18 story missions back-to-back in one session. You will be able to continue from the start of the current level if you die. You can select any character, but I would recommend playing as Lilith as her Rage meter charges very quickly and the Black Blade's combos are extremely effective against both hordes and bosses. The achievement will unlock after reaching the credits.

The biggest obstacle in obtaining this achievement is the potential for the game to crash after loading a level. I crashed during my first attempt, but luckily obtained this in my second attempt after setting the game to run in compatibility mode for Windows 7. I have no idea if that actually changed anything, but it's worth a shot if you experience bad issues with crashes.
