Core Items
Three core items for the build give good Magical Power, Health, Ability Haste, and Mana. With shields to add to survivability while ulting in teamfights and some regen to sustain lane phase and mid game.

Note: This build does less damage than other Gideon builds, but has much better survivability. Enables you win poke fighting, and value from your passive and ultimate to setup easy kills and favourable teamfights.

Crest: Soulbearer (Magician's Crest -> Wizard's Crest -> Soulbearer)
Magical Power, Mana, Ability Haste
Active to gain a shield scaled off mana. Grants Magical Lifesteal and Movement Speed.

Orb of Growth (Orb of Enlightenment)
Magical Power, Health, Mana, Ability Haste - Gain even more once it evolves.
On ability cast, restore 3% missing Health. - This really helps with winning trades in lane phase.

Truesilver Bracelet
Magical Power, Health, Magical Armour, Ability Haste
On Ultimate Cast, gain a shield scaling off Health, immune to CC, shield explodes for 50% of initial shield. - This is really good for using ult on multiple players and being able to survive long enough.
Standard Item Choices
Third Item
Oathkeeper
Empowered basic attack after using an ability, scales with Magical Power. Increases full non-ult combo damage by weaving in auto attacks between abilities. Plus it gives the correct stats, Magical Power, Health, and Ability Haste.
Azure Core
With Orb of Enlightenment (lvl 18), and Azure 400 stacks, you will have 2445 max mana. Meaning at full build this item will give 146 magical power, and Soulbearer's Shield will be 611 max health.
The downside is due to needing to get the 400 stacks (5 per any kill), the power spike for this comes later than simply finishing Oathkeeper and having empowered autos for combos.
Tainted Scepter [Situational]
Anti Heal option, if the other team has high amount of healing on it this becomes valuable. Malice gives some extra damage, but Oathkeeper's empowered autos are better. Stats are very similar, but Oathkeeper is slightly better.
Megacosm [Situational]
Max HP% Damage, if the other team is very beefy, the value of HP% damage might be worth it. Stats are similar to the other two, except it swaps the health for mana. Soulbearer's shield does scale off Mana, so you still do get some added survivability, but it is not as valuable as the max health.
With less HP, World Breaker 4th, and Lifebinder 5th both lose some value.
---
Fourth Item
World Breaker
Magical Damage, Health, Tenacity, Stacking Damage, 4% HP is Magical Power
---
Fifth Item
Lifebinder
Good Magical Power, and Max Health. Plus Magical Lifesteal for healing the large health pool outside of using Soulbearer. Additionally, gives increased Ability Haste that scales off Max Health, and Magical Power - the two stats we have been building with every other item.
Oblivion Crown
More expensive, but huge Magical Power increase. Contains large Magical Power, and gain more based on how much Magical Power you have. Plus, 30s cooldown of 10% max health damage. A lot of extra damage, especially if there is an enemy with a lot of HP.
Caustica
Magical Power, and ignore 40% of magical armour. Useful if some enemies are stacking Magical Armour.

Considering the items are all reworked and have no synergy anymore, no shit - its from 0.17 lmao

bad build

3669 Max Health, 122 Ability Haste - while still getting 521 ability power.
Soulbearer shield being 611, before even considering the Truesilver shield based on that max health pool.
Beefy Gideon, with utility of slow/tether and an ult keeping people close, with very low cooldowns, while still doing good damage.

Caustica's definitely a good item. In a build with different goals, yes building it earlier is a great option and the mana regen is meaningful. Building it 5th means the mana regen aspect is not important anymore, its only an alternative option if you need pen at that point.

And you can hit 600 magic power with Gideon with basically just oblivion + spell shield with the shield active, because of the % stacking
itsBlairBear 25 Apr, 2024 @ 5:44am
Just for example though, with Caustica below 50% mana you'll be getting about 14 mana regen per second, which means in the 8-9 second cooldown for your rock you'll have out regenerated the cost of one ability, just by existing. It's super strong, you don't need to stack mana pool when you just can't run out of mana.

You get +400 attack range for 4 seconds when you hit a hero with an ability, you will always out trade if you're any good
itsBlairBear 25 Apr, 2024 @ 5:39am
Caustica's mana regen passive is better than the 40% ignore of magical armor, you can skip half your build with a caustica rush into truesilver / oblivion belt depending on draft, and you will always win trades with gideon if you abuse your tether so the empowered auto attacks seem pointless for a combo hero with long cooldowns.

Tried it out in a couple matches and it worked really well. Thanks
