Upgrades Change Based on the City
In Dragons Dogma 2 the stats and materials required for upgrading weapons and armor differ between cities/regions of the map. Although the game tells that to the player on the top-right corner of the upgrade screen with the different colored seals of each country, some people might miss this so I decided to make a quick guide to explain and show the differences between the upgrades on each region.

Vermundian
The Vermundian (blue) upgrades offer equally distributed stats and reduce equipment weight.
  • Weight: -
  • Physical Attack/Defense: ++
  • Magick Attack/Defense: ++

Elven
The Elven (green) upgrades made on the Sacred Arbor offer greater Magick Attack/Defense but lesser Physical Attack/Defense and reduce equipment weight.
  • Weight: -
  • Physical Attack/Defense: +
  • Magick Attack/Defense: +++

Battahli
The Battahli (Yellow) upgrades offer greater Physical Attack/Defense but lesser Magick Attack/Defense and INCREASE the equipment weight.
  • Weight: +
  • Physical Attack/Defense: +++
  • Magick Attack/Defense: +

Blacksmith
The Blacksmith (white) upgrades offer equally distributed stats, INCREASED equipment weight and boost to Knockback Power/Resistance.
  • Weight: +
  • Physical Attack/Defense: ++
  • Magick Attack/Defense: ++
  • Knockback Power/Resistance: ++

Spheresgame, have you been to the Sphinx? She auto-equips a ring, which radically reduces damage output, as part of one of her "riddles." Removing that ring should solve the problem ... if that's the reason why your weapons seem to have stopped harming enemies. Might be other reasons, but that seems most likely.

hello is any body's having this experience when your playing dogma 2 that hitting the enemy my weapon would not hurting them it same it it not working right could anybody till how to fix it

Nah there is literally no reason not to just go dwarven for everything, stat loss is minimal and the KD power is outrageously useful.

tl;dr
vermundian for mystic spearhand
elven for mage/sorc/magic archer
battahli for fighter/warr/theif/archer
dwarven for armour

trickster and warfarer are trash anyway no amount of upgrades will help them not be inferior to the others

Very important to mention that upgrading any piece of equipment to level 3 allows you to further enhance it via Wyrmfire, which provides a massive stat boost while cutting item weight straight in half. Increased weight from upgrade paths ultimately do not mean anything in the long-term.

so 2 blacksmith and 1 Vermundian would almost negate the weight penalty and give plenty of knockback bonus. You could do 1:2 if you wanted to reduce the weight and still get some knockback.

I'm just hoping there's someone out there insane enough to try all the combinations on a piece of armor to find out the most optimal upgrades

So outside pure Magic gear, Dwarven seems best

Ah I see, haven't started upgrading yet, but it's good to see this beforehand.
