Objective of the game
When first starting the game, you might start experimenting with the mechanics to try and figure out how the game should be played. However, unlike games such as P.T., there's a pretty clear pattern to follow here, so instead of trying to mess with the salary man to no avail, you might want to start with these basic tips.

I'm not gonna spoil any of the anomalies here, leaving all the surprises for you to discover.

The Objective

The goal of the game is to reach Exit 8. Yes, it does exist.

To reach that goal, you'll have to repeatedly progress through a looping subway corridor where an ordinary salary man is walking by. Each time you pass through this corridor, there's a chance that an anomaly will appear, which essentially means that one of the elements of the environment will be changed in some way. When that happens, you'll need to turn back and go in the opposite direction. If the corridor is clear, however, you will be able to proceed forward.

The way to identify whether you're progressing or not is to pay attention to the exit number sign:

The rules are:
- If you passed the loop by going forward and the number on the sign increased, it means that the loop you just passed was free of anomalies.
- If you passed a loop and the sign resets to zero, it means that you missed an anomaly.
- If you spot an anomaly, you need to go back in the opposite direction, which will progress you to the next loop and the number will be higher than before.

Once you reach the eight loop, you need to pass through it one more time, and behind the next corner... congratulations, you have completed the game.
Genral gameplay tips
It may be a bit frustrating when you find yourself passing through loops that you were certain that were clear, only to see the number on the sign being reset to zero. Therefore, if you're losing your mind by obsessing over patterns in the wall tiles, here are some general tips to help you out.

All of these are spoiler-free.

1. There are very clear instructions on how to play the game next to the big yellow sign with a number; I actually missed that part and had no idea what to do at first so take a moment to read through them:

2. The main thing to pay attention to are the decorative/utility objects in the area, including light fixtures, cameras, posters, doors, and wall signs. The power junction panel past the doors doesn't do anything and it never changes.

3. White tiles on the walls stay the same so there's no need to obsess over their pattern, just in case one line is crooked or something.

4. However, when it comes to ceiling and floor, there may be some anomalies hidden there, so you need to pay attention to these on each pass-through. The game is generally more obvious about its hidden details.

5. Text on the posters never changes either, which means that you don't have to memorize every bit of information from them, focus on visual changes instead.

6. Some anomalies can be missed if you don't take a more holistic approach and instead obsess too much over minute details. Make sure to look at the big picture as well.

7. Some anomalies are animated and can be missed if you don't stop to observe the surroundings. Always look back twice before you move on, you might just spot something moving.

8. Some anomalies can reset your progress, so there's an element of danger to some of them. Beware.

9. Also pay attention to the salary man.

10. On several occasions, I spotted some visual glitches, such as checkered pattern blinking on a wall for a split second. Given the nature of the game, I wouldn't blame you for thinking that these may be anomalies, but they're not. They're just glitches so it's safe to ignore them. Note that these may not appear for everyone, since it may depend on your PC specs or drivers.

11. If this is a concern for you, the game is not frightening and there's one, very mild surprise that doesn't have any exaggerated sound effects or scary faces yelling at you anyway. It's more about messing with your head and testing your ability to spot the details, though the game may come off slightly creepy due to surreal premise and some supernatural elements.

Thanks for the spoiler free guide and about the text on posters, damn. This feeling when the 0 appears.

Fantastic guide. Especially since the game itself is so cryptic.

a very rare good "spoiler free" guide on steam, 90% of these type of guides on steam are hot garbage and useless but this one is exceptional

Thanks! This exactly what I needed, letting me know what to pay attention to without spoiling anything. Great job.

This is super helpful - thank you! I actually made it out of exit 8 on my Steam Deck last night, but it was offline and the achievement didn't pop. Now I'm trying to get out again and clearly I made it out the first time by chance. Your guide is really helpful!

Excellent, thank you! I ended up beating the game though I feel like I still lucked my way through a couple things

I actually considered that too at some point but overall it didn't make a difference. The only relevant in-game instructions are those from the "Guide" sign that I've shown on the screenshot.

Thanks for the guide, do you know if running or not obeying the "stay to the left" sign can reset ar run?
