The setting
Settings > Gameplay > Style > Putting style > Metered
This changes putting controls from the charming default controls to a more practical mode where you can select more or less the power you want. When holding space bar(or whatever you bound to putt) you get a meter at the bottom of the screen. Pull back on the mouse to increase the power and push up on the mouse to decrees the power (or however you configured your putting axis).
Release the space bar(butting bind) to hit the ball. If you have 0 power the shot is canceled instead.
Built in aim bot
Hit H(locate hole). If there's a strait line and no obstacles to the hole you can use locate hole to line up the shot perfectly instead of doing it manually.
Other navigation tips
If the 3d area is flat you can navigate using only volumetric view.

Many tracks are liniar with no dead ends. It's usually possible to just keep moving forward and end up at the hole no matter how lost you are.

Yeah this should be default

iirc, most of the negative reviews were about this issue. This needs to be enabled by default! It would make full sense in VR, but just doesn't really work with a mouse.
