Popularity is basically the reason why your peasants are coming in your castle. If you don't have peasants, you don't have a castle, so, popularity will help you get pesants and from there, you can start building your Kingdom.

How can you get it?

• Pay gold to your peasants;
  
• Give food to your peasants;
  
• Give ale to your peasants;
  
• Provide church services for your peasants;
  
• Having free beds;
  
• Random Events.

When you have much popularity it's good to ask taxes from your peasants and generate income, but, the tax system can be used to increase your popularity by paying gold to your peasants.

If you have a lot of positive popularity, you can ask for taxes and you will get gold, but, your popularity will decrease, depending on how much taxes you ask for(there is a limit of course).

However, the option of giving gold to your peasants to get extra popularity is not used to often, sometimes it's better to buy food with the gold that you have rather than giving it to your peasants and get nothing in return.

Usually when you have high amounts of populations you can ask for taxes and your income will increase but if you rather have few peasants, asking for a lot of taxes will mostlikely drag you down.

The food production gives you popularity for two reasons:

• Giving extra rations to your peasants;
  
• Giving multiple types of food to them.

You should know that these two combined can provide you some good amounts of popularity.

There are 4 types of food that you can give to your peasants:

• Apples
  
• Cheese
  
• Bread
  
• Meat

The most efficient is the Bread Economy because you can produce a lot of food (bread) eventhough you do not have a lot of grass around you. The bread production requires you a lot of wood in the beginning because you need to build Wheat Farms,Mills and Bakeries. Starting your bread production it will cost you 400 wood from the start, but, for the long run, it's the best choice you can make.

Ale is very good if you want to get popularity and gold at the same time. But, if I would have to choose between Ale and Candles production in order to get popularity, I wouldn't choose Ale, and here is why.

To produce Ale you need a lot of green area near you, and you need to produce Hops and from the Hops you need to make Ale by using Breweries. It's a simple process that takes a bit more wood than the Candles production.

In a nutshel, the Ale production is good when you have a lot of grass area near you and you want to get more gold, because you can sell 10 Ale for 20 Gold, which is a very good deal.

To provide church services you need to produce Candles, and build a Church and you are good to go.

This way of getting popularity is very good because it reaquires only the building that produces candles and a Church or Mosque (depending on what type of lord you chose, Arabian or European), and you are good to go.

Another way of getting popularity is by placing a lot of houses in order to increase the number of free beds that you have in your castle. Depending on the distance between the keep and the place you want to build your house, you may get 8,6,4 or 2 free beds.

Usually you get +10 or +15 popularity if you have like 15-30 free beds. Keep in mind that the more pople you have, the more free beds you need to have to get more popularity.

The player can choose if there can be random events or not on the map when he is playing Skirmish or Multiplayer. When you play the Campaigns or the Skirmish Trails you have no control over that.

The random events are random and the events can decrease your popularity or increase it, this depends on your luck.
