Bandle Tale basics

First time writing a guide, so bear with me. The absolute basics of Bandle Tale were so poorly explained, I felt compelled to give other players at least a brief introduction to some basic aspects of the game.

UI
What all the things in the top left UI mean
The stars represent your money. The money can be earned by selling items at your merchant stall and hosting food stands. You can spend these stars on items at certain NPCs.

The yellow orbs represent your skill points. These are used to upgrade your skills in your skill tree.
Yellow orbs can be obtained by:
  • Converting purple orbs through sleeping
  • Hosting parties
  • Hosting food stalls
  • Hosting lectures at Bandle University

The purple orbs (Emotion orbs) represent your experience gained since you last slept. When you go to sleep, the purple orbs get converted into yellow orbs. Partial purple orbs are also converted into partial yellow orbs. When your purple orbs are full, you stop gaining progression, so always go to bed if your orbs are almost full.

Purple orbs can be gained from pretty much everything you do. However it is subject to diminishing returns; the more you repeat a task, the less orbs you get, until it awards zero orbs. At this point, you will need to find new tasks to do.

A note on sleeping
Sleeping progresses your in-game time and is useful to help speed up production or respawn times of collectable sources. Sleeping also saves your game.

What all the things in the top right UI mean
These are all your quests. They are separated into different classes and islands, which are called Badges in game. Not all active quests are currently displayed here, and you can view the rest in the quest tab. You can receive more details about the current quest in the quest tab.
The Skill Tree
The yellow orbs are skill points which are spent on your skill tree. There are four skill trees: Knitting, Engineering, Nature, and Magic. Everything is mostly in the place you would expect to find it but not always. By using the more information button, you can figure out what new things you unlock by purchasing that skill.

Key tips on the skill tree
  • Don't spend all your skill points at once, especially in the early stages of the game. It is difficult to get enough skill points to progress at a reasonable pace early on. Save and use them only if your quest requires it.
  • If a skill is required for a current quest, there will be a question mark icon in the top right corner of the skill box
  • Progression in a skill tree is locked behind Badge progression. To make further progress in one tree, you will need to see which Badge is locked, and complete related quests for that Badge to unlock more skills.
How to make progression in the early game
You will reach a point where there are lots of things you need to craft but you do not have enough skill points. These instructions will tell you how to progress.

Host food stalls and parties to gain experience
Open a food stall. In the set up menu, it will tell you how many orders are being requested by NPCs. If no orders are currently being requested, you can wait in game and requests will slowly build up over time. Or you can open a merchant stall and sell items, which will give you food orders.

You need at least 4 orders to start a food stall, the workstations need to be ready (e.g. oven is running), and a minimum of 2 dishes. When you successfully complete a food stall, you will get progression in friendship and happiness.

When you have filled up the friendship and happiness bars, you can host a party. Unroll the festival carpet and select a suitable party theme. Guest cards are gained by completing quests. Each guest card you use will use up friendship and happiness. Select a sound track and lighting theme that works with the party theme. You will also need sufficient chill, music, and decoration to meet the requirements for starting a party. You can build these in the outdoor building, and remove them if you don't need them.

Important note:
Removing an item refunds materials (except for blueprints, but sometimes they were refunded for me). So don't be scared about removing items!

If you are unable to meet the minimum atmosphere requirements to start a party, you may need to purchase some party upgrades in the skill tree. There are party upgrades across all 4 skill trees, so pick one which has the relevant atmospheric boost you need (chill, music, or decoration).

Once you throw a party, all the yellow orbs you collect from the Yordles will be granted to you at the end. Some parties also give bonus orbs as a prize, other parties give items.

If your party fails and you do not get enough orbs, you may not be able to host another party. You will need to host another food stand in order to fill your happiness and friendship bars again before you can begin partying. You may not have any food orders yet since you have just used them all up, so you will need to open a merchant stall and sell some items before you can begin.

Merchant stall
Not everything you craft can be sold. Only the items in the menu which have a money bag symbol in the top left can be sold in the merchant store for stars. You are unable to set the price for which the item is sold. If you change your mind about an item that is in the stall, it can be removed. Merchant stores are only able to sell items if your house is placed on the island and the vendor carpet is unrolled. Sleeping can progress the in-game time and speed up item selling.
Auras
Auras can be projected by aura generating workstations or be present inherently on the island. Different islands have different auras available.

To use an aura, your workstation needs to be on the aura square. If your workstation is 2 squares long, only one of the squares needs to be in the aura to receive the effect.

If using an aura from a crafted aura generating workstation, the white square marks the aura output square. When your workstation is generating its aura, it cannot be moved or rotated, so make sure you have the correct orientation before beginning.

If using an aura already present on the island, just place the workbench on top of the aura.
You can also access the indoor/outdoor building menu and in the auras tab, you can select one of the islands inherent auras to place under a designated square. For example, if you are in Yarnville, there are two inherent auras available, Unity and Gravity. You are able to select Unity and place it under any workbench of your choosing. If you change your mind, the aura can be removed via the auras tab menu. Items crafted using the islands' inherent aura is generally much slower and you may need to leave your house on the island.

Island hopping and moving workstations around constantly on your Workbench Carpet will be your main method of utilising auras early on.

Magic mirrors are able to reflect the auras and increase the range of the aura. However, they need to be placed next to the initial aura generating station. Any overlapping squares between the magic mirror and the primary aura workstation will boost the level of that aura by 1.

Tips about auras
If the aura runs out before the item is finished crafting, the item will still be completed. However, the next item in the stack will not be started.
If you are using the movement aura, always make sure to replenish your magic loops in the charge workstation. If you run out of magic loops, there is a free movement aura in Dr Nestor's hideout.
