Fixing game crashing on Windows

Since many players are having this issue, i looked for a definitive solution and i found.

Just like many people i buyed the game and had issues to launch it. Doesn't matter how i launch the game and suddently closes after open.

I tried many solutions i found in the internet but no success. I tried windows compatibility, ADM previlege, and other tries. But i found a solution.

Simple and fast solution.

Download a required file

All i (as you) need to do is to download an specific .DLL and set in the game root directory.

Download the .RAR, and extract by using the password pcgw.

Since you have the file dinput.dll in hands, just cut and paste in the game root directory and start the game. No additional steps are required.

If you don't know how to find the game directory, just read bellow.

Finding the game directory

Find Commandos 2 in your game list. Click in "properties". Look for "local files" and then to "browse local files".

It's going to open a new windows browser file. That's game root directory where you need to copy the .DLL you just downloaded.

Launch the game

That's all i needed to do. It worked fine without any other changes.

I don't know why this .DLL is not by default when you download the game. Could be to avoid any issue.

This still works as of April 2025. I had to install 7zip to be able to extract the file using the password. Thanks!

I tried absolutely everything,the game just wouldn't start at all. f*ing around with compatibility-modes, dgVoodoo wrapper settings, DXwind wrapper etc... nothing worked UNTIL I found this:

On my system (Win 10 prof. 22H2 | Build 19045.5371) the solution was to install the absolutely fantastic HD mod for the game 'Commandos HD Project'.

Version 1.0 I tried before but didn't work for me. There's been an update to Version 2.0 of the HD project in '24 though, which fixed every issue I had! (Plus it runs out of the box. No additional compatibility-mode settings or dgvoodoo wrapping needed.)
