Intro
Etrian Odyssey is a game chock-full of grinding, trudging around, and grinding some more, but it gets ridiculous when the player is asked to spend five in-game days walking around a single floor.

So let's automate it.
How to Spend Five Days on One Floor Without Losing Your Mind
Here's what to do:
  1. Download and install autohotkey[www.autohotkey.com].
  2. Create a blank autohotkey script, either by right-clicking in a folder and selecting "New" and then finding it in the list, or by creating a blank .txt file and changing the file type to .ahk.
  3. Edit your new .ahk file and input the following text:
    F3:: Loop { Send {Q down} Sleep 10 Send {Q up} Sleep 250 Send {Q down} Sleep 10 Send {Q up} Sleep 250 Send {E down} Sleep 10 Send {E up} Sleep 250 Send {E down} Sleep 10 Send {E up} Sleep 250 } Return Esc::ExitApp
  4. The above text is code that autohotkey will execute (upon pressing F3) to send key presses and then repeat until the ESC key is pressed. Why?
  5. Because now you need to pop yourself in one small area. This area:
  6. This location with the healing fountain is marked as safe, so no monsters will harass you while the .ahk script moves you back and forth.
  7. Now turn on the .ahk script, press F3, and watch the clock slowly count up as your characters move left and right for fifteen minutes.
  8. This process, sadly, isn't 100% AFK, as you'll have to interact with the daily reminders of how long you've spent on the floor.
End
Hopefully that gets anyone new to autohotkey through this stupid, stupid quest.

Good luck.

or... just use the auto path thing? Duh?

(And if you want to delete the path afterward, use the tool to the left of the one you use to draw the path, which looks very similar but with a minus icon, then click on the path)

You don't need to set up a macro for this. The game has an auto-pathing feature. On the map tools you select the icon that looks like an arrow pointing diagonally down and left, which is located just above the blue tile paint tool. Then, you draw the path to follow on the map itself. Next, you stand yourself on the path, then press the icon that looks like Play button, which is the one right above the tool you used to draw the path. You will then auto walk the path and it will loop if your path is a complete loop. To stop following the path you just click the Play button again.

Time passes with each step you take. So you should also go into the game options, go to the Field tab and change movement speed to Fast to make it go faster.

Surprised they didn't give us one of this quest for each stratum. I think five days in the sixth stratum would have been a real challenge.
