Getting Started

Did you know that Didnapper 2 has mods? You can find them on the DID Games discord server [discord.com], or on their standalone mod pages if they have one. Here are some examples:

Overkill 2 [kombatwombat.itch.io]
Yuti's Mod [yuti35.itch.io]
Monsters Enhanced [ponka0.itch.io]

Installing a Mod

Mod:

Here's a basic list of instructions from the video. Be sure to look at the video to see each step explained in more detail.

1. Purchase Didnapper 2 on Steam or https://didgames.itch.io/didnapper-2
(Version 1.1.2 required as of 2/12/2024).

2. Download this mod patch (Overkill2PatchXXXX.zip).

3. Navigate to your game installation directory by going to your Steam Library, right-clicking on didnapper 2, selecting "Properties" > "Installed Files" > "Browse".

4. Create folders (in the same directory as locales, swiftshader, www) "mods", and inside that, "patches".

5. Unzip the mod patch and place it into a folder within the patches folder (This folder can be named anything, but should default to the name of the .zip that you are extracting). Make sure the overkill folder inside the patches folder looks like this:

6. Open your game, navigate to "mods", add the mod, and select "finish" (Do not use your mouse to do this, it will cause issues.
7. Wait for the new installation to be created.
8. Navigate to the new installation, you can now play the mod by clicking game.exe!

FOR STEAM DECK USERS PART 2:

4) Open the folder named after whatever you named it when creating the modded game. Inside that folder will be a Game.exe file. This is your modded game.

4) To run in Desktop Mode: Right click on that Game.exe file and select: "Open with Protontricks Launcher". Scroll down and select the option for Didnapper 2. This should run the game.

5) To run in Gaming Mode: Right click on the Game.exe and select: "Add to Steam". Then launch Steam client in Desktop Mode, and in your library search for "Game.exe". In the page for this you can rename it under properties to be something like "Didnapper 2 Modded" or something, Switch to Gaming Mode and under the properties of the game you will need to force compatibility with Proton. (I used the latest version 9). You can then play the game normally in Gaming mode.

FOR STEAM DECK USERS PART 1:

1) In desktop mode, unzip your downloaded mods to:
/home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Didnapper 2/mods/patches

2) Follow the instructions of the main guide above, This creates a new, modded copy of the game that you will have to sideload into steam to work in gaming mode. When you press "finish" it will let you name it. IMPORTANT: if you plan to use Overkill mod with Yuti's mod or any other, you need to make sure you install Overkill mod FIRST. Also, do not install Ken's vibe mod with Overkill mod as Overkill already has a vibe.

3) The modded version of the game will be found in:
/home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Didnapper 2/mods/installs

So I was able to get the mods installed but both the overkill mod and Yuti's mod are not working with the latest version of the game. Does anyone have a fix for that?

the game itself describes where the new installation is by telling you the folder path. Go to that folder and double click game.exe to launch it.

What do you mean: "Navigate to the new installation" to play the mod? The new installation is an entire folder filled with various files. Can you explain how to actually launch the modded version of the game?
