Literally fix
First of all, follow the link[github.com] and read carefully the section where to unpack:

"f it does not show up in the list, ensure you extracted the folder in the correct location and that the directory looks something like this "/home/deck/.steam/steam/compatibilitytools.d/DAI-Proton"."

I didn't have the compatibility tools.d directory on my steamdeck, so I had to create it.

After unpacking files from the archive to this directory, reboot to be sure, and then in the settings where you previously selected the proton version, select DAI-Proton

N.B: Before starting the game and checking, change string GstInput string.GamePad 0 to GstInput.GamePad 1 in the ProfileOptions_profile file (/home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/<your game index>/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/BioWare/Dragon Age Inquisition/Save/)

That's all, now you can set official controller layout in steamdeck control setting and start DA: I

Hi @amanda.kissel , it’s all right. “Game index” in path is numeric index of Dragon Age: Inquisition (you will see it in the proton tricks start window or in steam website, when you jump on the page with game)
In case website https://store.steampowered.com/app/1222690/Dragon_Age_Inquisition/ ,
1222690 - game index

Hi! I’m sorry- I’m new to all of this, so this may be a dumb question, but I can’t get this to work. The DAI-Proton shows up in properties, but when I select it in Properties, I am still unable to use the controller. I figured I should go to change the string GstInput, but when I get to the compatdata folder, there are just a bunch of numbered folders, and in each there is a pfx/drive_c folder. How do I know which to pick? Thank you!

Hi @shmaggle1, even after the reboot, it did not show up?
Note, that the correct way for a new item to appear after a system reboot should be as:
/home/deck/.steam/steam/compatibilitytools.d/DAI-Proon/<files_for_dai-proton>

Hello! I extracted the data to the created directory using desktop mode but, there is no new DAI-Proton for me to choose in the force compatibility properties. What am I doing wrong?
