Running Black Desert on Linux (2024)
By r.linder
Simple guide on how to run Black Desert on Linux in 2024, last updated on 28.01.2024.

NOTE: Only confirmed to work when BDO is running XIGNCODE3, if they switch anti-cheats again then it's possible that Linux support will go away again.

Step-by-step Guide
  1. Open your Steam settings, and go into the Compatibility tab. Enable both Enable Steam Play for supported titles and Enable Steam Play for all other titles, then restart Steam. If you've already configured this, skip this step.
  2. When Steam launches, search for Proton Experimental in your library (you may need to tick off Tools in the search filtering), right-click on it and go to Properties. Go to the Betas tab and select bleeding-edge from the list (usually the first one) and then close the window.
  3. Right-click on Black Desert in your library and go to Properties, then go to Compatibility and tick off the box that says Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool and select Proton Experimental and close the window.

Now when you run the game, the launcher and all web service windows, including the marketplace, will work correctly.
You can also use ProtonGE version 8-28.

Check settings at login/startup screen, not just when you're logged in, sometimes it forces settings for low performance systems at the main menu, especially after maintenance/updates

Goes without saying but if you have a 60 Hz screen, it will be capped to 60 if any kind of vertical sync or limiter that goes by native refresh is enabled

Nice work. it might be the reason why they switch to XIGNCODE3 because valve will continue to develop steam deck and there's Steam OS as well which is based on linux.
