Overview
A guide to get through the beginning and get acquainted with the game. This should get you to t11-t13.
Beginning
Simply follow through the main quest. You'll soon get acquainted with the basic gameplay. In general,

rare -> epic -> legendary, etc.

Join every event. As long as you join an event once you'll get the week's reward no matter how you place and that's enough at this point.

If you can't progress on the main quest, see "what to do if I get stuck".

What not to do

The one thing to be wary of is gems and rare fusions.

Gems are a valuable resource and takes more time to recover than money. As such, be sure you know what you're doing and if the offer is worth it before spending them.

When browsing the shop, look at the guaranteed items.

If the shop guarantees a rare or epic, do not expect to get anything above that. It's worth looking into the odds beforehand.

Fusing a rare can slow you down if you then opt for another fusion path later, but that's hard/impossible to avoid.

Staples

  • Shrampz (a fusion of Grampz)
  • Remmyt (a fusion of Rexie)
  • Ularius

If 90% of the players are using a certain familiar/fusion, that's called a staple. They're good and fit in a lot of builds. You don't necessarily have to use staples. Remmyt is a valid staple but there are many alternatives. Velk, Groger, Borg'an fill a similar role.

A build

A basic build in this kind of game is healer-tank-damage dealer. The tank protects the party while the others focus on healing the tank or dealing damage (DPS). Grampz and Shrampz is a good sponge for placing at the front.

Later you find Rexie which can fuse into Remmyt (I don't recommend Trixie as a legendary fusion uses Remmyt).

Both Shrampz and Ularius are good fusions because they're easy to make. Shrampz is a rare and gets you by until Ularius. Ularius is an epic fusion that only needs rares making it easier to get than most epics. You'll probably end up with it if only from how easy it is to make.

A healer-tank-damage build should be good enough to get to the midgame. Aim for Remmyt+Shrampz/Ularius.
What to do if you get stuck
  • Use the world's raid to get better equipment.

At one point in zone 5 I noticed that a rare was more powerful than one of the previous epics. That's because an item gets a boost when it's from a different tier/zone. Once you're in a guild, you can get equipment from your current zone easily on the raids. World boss is an option if you gather enough players for it.

  • Use weekly event rewards to craft better runes, augments, etc.
  • Upgrade your accessory/pet in the shop or, if possible, in an event.

If you have the gems, it's reasonable to get a rare at the least in the shop. It's then worth considering getting an epic in an event.

  • Get one of the staples listed.
  • Use augments on the fusions and use the stable.

If you make multiples of the same familiar, the familiar and its augments will get bonus from the stable.
Conclusion
If you have already done all of the above, then congratulations! You're probably past the initial zones or close to it.

It should be possible to get to tier 10 and with some luck 13.

This is not a guide about the mid or endgame but here are a few observations:

  • Gems might be spent here to ease the process of getting myth familiars or for legendary accessories.

  • A common staple I see around starting from zone 10 is Glarzdos. You can get one in the World Bosses. Feodebius is a similar fusion. The setup differs a bit from the healer-tank build above in that unlike a normal tank they have low HP but easily recover it with a skill as long as it's not killed. Remmyt can be fused into Remruade for a legendary healer. The game does require some grinding at this point with Glarzdos requiring 3 epic familiars.

  • Looking at the wikia, the chance of getting a legendary accessory/pet is about 1 in 4 in a mega box or 1 in 29 in a hyper/large. Assuming a sale, the expected amount of gems is about 16k and 19k in a sale not counting special offers. An offer featured two mega (one pet and the other accessory) for 6k meaning 12k for the chance to get either.
