Welcome to this guide!
I hope it will help you to configure Ford Racing 3!

A few things in advance:
  • I highly recommend you to check out the PCGamingWiki-article for FR3[www.pcgamingwiki.com] for things that are not covered by this guide!
  • After you made your setup for the game, don't forget to click on "OK"!
  • If you cannot start the program, try to run it as an administrator and/or in Windows 7 compatibility mode.
  • In the case of graphical modifications such as antialiasing, you most likely will have to fiddle around with your graphic driver's settings (e.g. NVIDIA Control Panel). This goes beyond the contents of this guide though - good luck!

Lets get you helped!

Oh, and if you liked this guide, do not forget to leave a thumbs-up. You can leave some Steam Points too. Not a must, of course! :)
Finding "syscfg.exe"
In the former CD-version, Ford Racing 3 got an entry in "All programs", including the game's configuration.
For now, we will have to search it for the Steam version.

Navigate the Explorer to following path (it depends on which path you set Steam to install Ford Racing 3!)
X:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Ford Racing 3\CONFIG
The path should kind of look like the one I wrote above.

Alternatively, search the game in your Steam library, right-click on it, select "Properties". A new windows pops up; choose the tab "LOCAL FILES", then choose "BROWSE LOCAL FILES...". The game's directory should be visible now.
Choose the folder "CONFIG" and open it!

Start the little .exe-file called "syscfg.exe"!
Changing the display resolution and graphics card
After the program started, a new window appears:

Here you can change the graphics card on which Ford Racing 3 will run, the color depth (16 bit or 32 bit) the display resolution you want to play the game! Additionally, you can change the game's displayed resolution.

32 bit and the highest display resolution you can set for full visual joy ;)
Changing the audio-settings
Navigate to the "Audio"-tab. You will see following window:

Here you can set up the audio-output/-device, and if the sound even has to be enabled.
I don't even know who will play the game without sound...
Changing the network settings
Navigate to the tab "Network". You will see following:

Here you can choose your name and the port if you consider to play Ford Racing 3 on a LAN-party with your friends.
It's real fun driving against your friends and ramming them off to the abyss!
Changing the graphic quality
With navigating to the tab "Detail Level", the window will show you following content:

Set the graphic qualities how you want them to be. Low-end to average PCs should get more than 60fps while running the game on the highest settings, since Ford Racing 3 is not the most resource-hungry game - after all, Ford Racing 3 was released in 2004!
Changing the ingame language
Navigate to the tab "Language Selection", and choose your preferred language!

As far as I know, the audible languages in-game are restricted to German and English. If you consider playing on e.g. Italian, the GUI will be on Italian, but voice you will hear the menues will be English.
ASSERT bug
As pointed out by several players, there seems to be a "assert language bug".
Raxyz provided a useful fix for this. Give him a warm thank you for one possible solution!

It only works if I execute the game form the syscfg.exe file with the "Run Game" button, if I execute the game from steam even after changing the resolution and stuff it doesn't work and the game defaults to 640x480 again.

Any help?
