Controller without Steam input and Modding (Best Solution)
By Vossler_XIII
If you are a person like me who struggles with setting up the gamepad via Steam profiles and refuses to “hard mod” their precious Oblivion, this guide is for you. Gamepads that I've used for this guide are Xbox One and Xbox Series

Xpadder
Download "Xpadder" from anywhere you want, or you can use my link:
https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/xpadder_(last_freeware_version).html

Download the following files from the link and put them anywhere on your computer where you can find them easily: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Ck-tIx2LKziMNGQHQOobWAbxVh6Rbl-y?usp=sharing

Power on your controller

Install Xpadder, open, and click on the left-side icon and choose “Open”, choose the files that you've downloaded “OBLIVION MAIN” and after that click “Open” again and choose “OBLIVION CONTROLLER”

After performing all tasks from above, you should see this:

LAST and important thing:

Some old guides were suggesting to do additional step, like going to "My Documents - My games - Oblivion - Oblivion.ini" search for bUse Joystick=1 and change it to bUse Joystick=0 , IT DOES MATTER in order to properly adjust analog sticks. Also, disable controller via the following: click on Oblivion in your Steam library with right click, choose properties - controller - and on the right side choose “disable steam input”

leave the program running and open Oblivion.

So far, that was the best solution personally for me and I was able to avoid all unnecessary profile downloading and moddings from Nexus.

Let me know if you have problems with it or questions.

Northern UI is pretty much vanilla due to the way it's written. You use the vanilla esque one so it looks like just the normal UI.

Hotkeys need some configuration but generally work.

@wynams interesting, I actually never used Northern UI tho. Need to try it out too (I still gonna prefer vanilla experience tho)

I use a combination of DS4Windows and Northern UI on a DS4.

I set the touchpad to pass through in DS4W then map left touch, right touch, top touch and multi-touch to quick buttons (as well as SHARE, LB1 and PS Button) also in DS4W so I can access 7 quick buttons.

Sometimes my game will stop registering them, but if I wiggle the mouse they come back and I don't have to get out/back in game.

The only key I don't have mapped but miss at times is GRAB

Not what I'm saying. I'm stating because you cannot do take all (a controller native feature) while you can in Northern UI, this isn't the best method.

Oroborius - this method is not compatible with Northern UI

Can't take all using this method, making it inferior to Northern UI.

@IThoughtHurricaneSeasonWasOva neither Northern UI or other mods worked properly for me, this is why I ended up just binding all keys to the gamepad.

Steam input did not worked well for me as well. I've spent quite some trying to change different controllers (actually PS5 was the best for some reason lol), and still I was not satisfied.

Northern UI is 100% the best solution for controller support and is easy to install. Also every other controller support that isn't Northern UI that I've tried won't let you slowly walk using a controller, you're either moving at full speed or not at all which feels pretty bad in a game like oblivion, especially when you need to sneak or have high speed/athletics.

if you refuse to mod your game and can't use steam input you should sell your pc
