The Skyfarer's Guide to Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising
By NeoStrayCat
Welcome back Skyfarer's, to the world of Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising.

This guide will cover a lot of what Rising has than in Versus, but with slight differences and changes here and there.
---
If you have previous save data from Versus, you can transfer it over to Rising. The following that does get transferred...

-RPG Mode/Story Progress (Up to Episode 55 with past episode clear ranks you've gotten at the time, starts you out at Part 3 with various unlocks, such as Journal (Gallery) entries, and various Support and Sub Skills.)
-Tournament Trophies (specific titles from participating and/or winning from official GBVS tournaments.)
-EX Color (a color given out probably as a participation or a prize from winning the official GBVS tournaments.)
-Battle Pass Rewards (Color #19 and Weapon Skin #8 for characters you've unlocked within the 5 battle passes from Versus. Otherwise, they are unlockable in-game in Rising.)

Be aware that the save transfer only works if you own the full game (either Standard or Deluxe edition), it will not work in the Free Edition.

Controls: (Assuming default controls, button legend will assume Xbox buttons, then PS, and then NS buttons. L/M/H/U is used for the control scheme, but the button prompts can be changed in the options.)
D-Pad/Stick: Movement
X/Square/Y: L (Light)
Y/Triangle/X: M (Medium)
B/Circle/A: H (Heavy)
A/Cross/B: U (Unique Action)
LB/L1/L: Throw
LT/L2/ZL: Dash
RB/R1/R: Easy Skill moves (Special Moves), used in conjunction with the Pad/Stick for other skill moves. Note: Cooldown is only affected on Plus and Ultimate Skills (special moves).
RT/R2/ZR: Block (You can also press <-+Block to evade or ->+Block to roll out attacks and projectiles if timed right.)

As of Rising, Tactical Move - Rush, Tactical Move - Backshift, and Overdrive are no longer mechanics. They have been changed to newer mechanics, such as...

-Triple Attack Enders: with ->+M for a low hitting attack, or ->+H for an overhead attack.
-Dash Attacks: While Dashing, press ->+L for a quick attack, ->+M for a low attack, or ->+H for a high attack.
-Ultimate Skills: With 50% SBA gauge, perform any special move with either Technical or Simple input with the U button. It can be also used while its in cooldown, but with reduced damage. (Any U. Skill landed that's not a DP motion or in a combo will recover 25% SBA gauge on hit, and half of that on block.)
-Raging Strikes: Press M+H simultaneously while you have at least 1 Bravery Point. It will inflict guard crush if the opponent blocks it, along with 1 Bravery Point removed. But the opponent can also do the same and counter back with it if they were guard crushed, but it'll cost them 2 Bravery Points to counter.
-Raging Chains: A follow up to Raging Strikes by pressing M+H simultaneously again, which uses 25% SBA gauge and can be followed up into various combos.
-Brave Counters: A counterattack while guarding while also pressing M+H simultaneously, this will use 1 Bravery Point and a small amount of damage if it lands on the opponent. (As of Ver. 1.30, Brave Counters will no longer damage the opponent if their health is 500 or lower.)

-Bravery Point System: You start with 3 in each round. They are used if you perform Raging Strikes and Brave Counters. However, you will lose them if you are guard crushed by a Raging Strike (1 point) or taking damage from a Skybound (1 point) or Super Skybound Art (2 points). You will take additional damage by the opponent the less Bravery Points you have. You can also recover a Bravery Point if you perform a S/SBA.
3 or 2 Points: No effect / 1 Point: 20% additional damage. / 0 Points: 50% additional damage.

For Training:
LS/L3/LS: Switch control to P2 and/or record opponent movement.
RS/R3/RS: Switch control back to P1 and/or replay opponent movement.
You can view the command list for every character by pausing the game. They will show you how to perform the moves (Skills and Skybound Arts) in both Simple and Technical forms along with demonstration clips on the side.
As of Rising, the tutorial (Situational Training) and character combos (see "Basic Combos" on Character Guide) are now part of the Training mode.
Leveling
Leveling is a system new to Rising where the more you play with any character or in Grand Bruise Legends where you earn various rewards and you'll earn experience to unlock various items (which some are available in the Rupie Shop) along with additional Rupies too at various levels.

Experience can be earn in online matches and in the arcade mode. However, you earn more experience in online matches more, but less in arcade mode and in room matches. (Please be aware that you cannot earn any experience in arcade mode if the game is set to offline mode. Experience gains for arcade mode has been increased in Ver. 1.10 similar to room match values.)

Experience Values: (Character)
Ranked, Casual, Online Lobby: 300 Exp. each win / 150 Exp. each loss
Room Match: 30 Exp. each win / 15 Exp. each loss
Arcade: 30 Exp. each win / 15 Exp. each loss
(Draws are counted as losses for both you and the opponent.)

Experience Values: (Grand Bruise Legends)
Stage 1: 50 Exp. if you qualify to Stage 2 or be eliminated (you can withdraw anytime during stage 2 and/or 3). / 0 Exp. if you withdraw anytime during Stage 1.
Stage 2: 200 Exp. if you qualify to Stage 3 or be eliminated (you can withdraw anytime during stage 3). Otherwise, 50 Exp. for withdrawing anytime during Stage 2.
Stage 3: ? Exp. plus placement bonus for either victory or elimination. Otherwise, 200 Exp. for withdrawing anytime during Stage 3.
(Placement bonuses vary, the higher your placement, the higher the bonus. However, you get lots more if more players are in your session and reach a high placement. Experience gains has since been increased highly in Ver. 1.10.)

The rewards for characters are up to Lv. 500 (with Lv. 999 being the max level currently), and Lv. 100 in Grand Bruise Legends. (Free Edition has a level cap at 80 for characters and 40 in Grand
Bruise legends.)

Additional level rewards past Lv. 500 are to be added in Ver. 2.00, with the level cap being extended past Lv. 999.

Character Level Rewards: (2,000 Rupies and 26 Draw Tickets each/total per character can be earned in-between levels. Each character has their own set of various Trophies and named weapon skins. Crane Game
The Crane Game is a fixture in the Online Lobby (both near the Grand Bruise Legends reception area, and inside the Arcade) where you can spend 50 Rupies per play in a chance to earn prizes from capsules. Like actual claw games, they can be rigged if the prize you're looking for is near the corner or if it inadvertently falls before dropping down in the prize drop, which means in a loss of 50 Rupies.

Prizes in the Crane Game can include...

Colors 16, 17, and 18 for the base roster. (These will have a yellow color boarder.)
Various Profile items. (These will have a red color boarder.)
Various Digital Figure Mode items. (These will have a green color boarder.)

The capsules you'll see will determine how many prizes can be inside one capsule.

Green/Blue: 1 prize
Red: 2 prizes
Yellow: 3 prizes

Once you get everything from the crane game, they will be replaced with 5 Draw Tickets instead (These will have a blue color boarder.).

Helpful Hints:

-If you think a capsule might be out of reach or you might miss it, you can exit out from the crane game and back in again, so that its position is changed and that its easier to reach it.

(Update: Increasing the odds of getting additional red or yellow colored capsules is no longer possible as of Ver 1.10.)

Rewards in the Crane Game refresh/reset daily at 12 PM PST/1 PM PDT.

Grand Bruise! Legends is a mini-game mode essentially similar to Fall Guys, but with a Grand Blues perspective. Like Fall Guys, the objective is to reach 1st place.

You and a group of up to 30 players (with the option to play with friends included in Ver. 1.30) will tackle between 3 stages (if you reach it that far) to see who will try to reach the top and earn various amounts of XP depending on the number of players entered. The more players that are in GBL, the more XP you get.

Items:
-Sword: 5 uses, attacking moves the opponent out of the way, charge attack knocks down the opponent within the radius.
-Gun: 15 uses, continuous fire, good for breaking walls in the Rising Royale stage quicker.
-Bow: 3 uses, good for long range, attacking fires one arrow, charge attack fires 3 arrows.
-Axe: ? uses, attacking moves the the opponent out of the way, charge attack heavily knocks down the opponent from a distance.
-Staff: 1 use, turns giant for a limited time, no knockbacks when attacked by opponents.
-Lance: 1 use, usually targets the player in first place during Rising Royale stages, knocks the opponent on hit if it lands.
-Fried Shrimp: 3 uses, knocks opponents down in their range once thrown. (It previously knocked the player and teammates too, but not anymore since ver. 1.50.)
-Flawless Prism: 3 uses, knocks opponents down when hit.
-Ice: 3 uses, usually used as a movement boost to reach the goal quicker on Rising Royale stages.
-Smoke: 1 use (previously 3), covers the target area temporarily with smoke.
-Bahamut Anima: 1 use, rare to get, strikes all other opponents with a beam attack except the player with heavy knockback regardless of position.

You'll advance to the next stage if...
-You reach the goal in stage 1's Rising Royale.
-You're not the last team remaining via time out in Gold Brick Hoarder, survive in Golem Defense Force, or reach 5000 points in Slime Blaster in stage 2.

You'll win in Stage 3 if...
-You become the last player standing in Blast King and Beam Bouncers, and if you reached the goal first in Rising Royale.

However, you'll be eliminated if...
-You didn't reach the goal in in stage 1's Rising Royale once a set amount of players reached the goal or if time runs out.
-Your team is in third/last place in Gold Brick Hoarder once time runs out, lose all 3 lives in Golem Defense Force, or not reach 5000 points in Slime Blaster in stage 2.
-You fall into the void in Blast King and/or Beam Bouncers, and if any other player reaches the goal first in Rising Royale in stage 3.

Note: For any daily/weekly challenge/mission that requires playing Grand Bruise, collecting an item once (or more) requires that a stage has to be completed first to get credit. You can't just get an item and then immediately withdraw the game from stage 1, it doesn't work. Also, "playing GBL stages" also count if you're eliminated from stage 1 and continue spectating onto stages 2 and 3. The counter will go up that way.

Stage 1:

Rising Royale (Straight):

Time: 3 Minutes
Objective: Reach the goal within a certain amount of players.
Hint: Use the items and take shortcuts when necessary.

Rising Royale (Swirl):

Time: 3 Minutes
Objective: Reach the goal within a certain amount of players.
Hint: Use the items and take shortcuts when necessary.

Stage 2:

Gold Brick Hoarder:

Time: 2 Minutes
Objective: Have the highest amount of Gold Bricks if your team is either in first or second place.
Hint: Once the timer hits 30 seconds, Owlcat Anima (Strong) will appear across all 3 teams (changed in Ver. 1.50), use them to hopefully get a winning chance for your team and steal their gold bricks from their base from the other 2 teams. And use the various items/weapons at your disposal to keep the enemy team away from your base or to get their Gold Bricks.

Golem Defense Force:

Time: Not shown (Around 2 minutes and 20 seconds total [Wave 1: 1 minute / Wave 2: 1 minute and 20 seconds], now changed in Ver. 1.30)
Objective: Survive until you last 2 waves. You have 3 lives. The firing type you'll have is always randomly selected.
Hint: Defeating Golems and various other enemies will sometimes/randomly drop a damage and/or jump boost. A healing circle will appear sometimes/randomly which will let you recover your lives. (Odds for the healing circle have been extended in Ver. 1.50 after defeating Boss Owlcat and Gray Golems, which now have their health reduced.)

Slime Blaster: (Added in Ver. 1.50)

Time: 2 Minutes
Objective: Reach 5000 points to qualify to the next stage.
Hint: Use the items at your disposal to defeat the various slimes quickly and earn points. Lots more will appear once the timer gets closer to 0. The mini-game ends once everyone reaches 5000 points to go to the next stage.

Stage 3:

Blast King:

Time: Not shown (The ground collapses at various times until the last square space dissapears. Which is around 2 minutes.)
Objective: Survive until you are the last one standing.
Hint: Use the items and the blasts to your advantage. Blasts have now been buffed in Ver. 1.30, pushing back the players more when the blast radius gets wider.

Beam Bouncers:

Time: Not shown (The ground collapses at various times until the last square space dissapears. Which is around 2 minutes.)
Objective: Survive until you are the last one standing.
Hint: Use the items and the beam to your advantage. The beams have changed in Ver. 1.30, the blue beams will knock the players down, the red beams will push the players further across the edge of the void to the point where you can't make it even when diving.

Rising Royale:

Time: 2 Minutes (now changed in Ver. 1.50)
Objective: Reach the goal first.
Hint: Use the items and take shortcuts when necessary.
Mode Specifics
Arcade Mode:

Arcade Mode Stage 7 Bosses:

0-5 Spheres: Beelzebub

6 Spheres: Avatar Belial

You earn 1 sphere (with a feather inside) every time you finish your opponents in Arcade mode with a Skybound Art (either SBA or SSBA). Up to a max of 6. Your stage 7 opponent will depend on the number of spheres earned. You will not earn any if you lose a single round or when you fight your Stage 7 opponent.

Bonus/Extra Stage (8): Lucilius
The following requirements...

-6 Skybound Art Finishes between Stages 1 through 6 (you won't get any in Stage 7).
-No round losses (or continues).
-Difficulty does not matter.

The difficulty for the fight is scaled depending most likely on specific difficulties selected through your arcade mode fights. (As of Ver. 1.50, you can continue against Lucilius.)
(For example: If all stages were done on Beginner difficulty, then the Lucilius fight will be set to Hard.)

Stage EX: Versusia
The following requirements...

-Defeat Beelzebub (Stage 7) or Lucilius (Stage 8) with an S/SBA.
-Difficulty does not matter.

Similar to fighting Lucilius, the difficulty will be scaled 2 tiers above your previous chosen difficulty route. (Beginner -> Hard)

Ranked Matches:

When you go in Ranked for the first time, you are greeted with the option to find players of your skill level, you have 3 choices between...

-"I'm not too confident or have little experience". (Color Rating at Dark Green / Versus Rank at D.)
-"I like fighting games, but I'm not the best". (Color Rating at Light Green / Versus Rank at C.)
-"I can take on anyone"! (Color Rating at Yellow / Versus Rank at B.)

Please be aware that this is a one-time option that's server checked, and select the rank you really want to start in (and committed to), and yes, this affects all characters as well. (Say for example, you select the "C" option, all characters will start at Versus Rank "C")

There are no options to revert this, so choose carefully. However, characters can be ranked up individually.

Story Mode
Story mode has changed fairly from RPG mode, as it no longer uses the weapon grid system, along with character levels gone, and to no longer be able play in co-op offline and offline, only CPU (Auto) as your 2P partner (specific episodes).

Also, certain characters are episode specific only, unlike in Versus where you could just play as anyone if you have already unlocked them. Also characters will start with fixed amounts of ATK and HP for that specific episode. Most fights are boss fights (with very few mob battles in certain episodes). Tower of Babyl is also no longer available.

Color, Weapon Skin, and Outfit can be selected/changed before battle.

Support Skills and Subskills can also be set before battle. (Some might need to be unlocked first. Or can be immeaditely unlocked either from the skip feature or if you have save data from Versus with the save transfer feature and any progress you made up to that point.)

If your main character's HP hits 0, regardless of partner HP, "Quest Failed" will appear, however, you can either continue with a 10% Attack and HP increase (Max: 100%) or continue the fight without the attack/HP increase.

However, if you are a new player to Rising and have already played both parts 1 and 2 of the RPG/Story mode previously, but do not want to grind it over again, you can use the skip feature to immeadaitely skip to Part 3 of the story mode. (Or have already used the save transfer feature if you have save data from Versus.)

Battle Pass
The Battle Pass is a rewards list that includes various items that you can earn.

-Rupies (In-game currency)
-Draw Tickets (for weapon cutouts in Grand Bruise.)
-Trophies ("Titles" for your profile card.)
-BGM
-Badges (for your profile card.)
-Stickers (for use in online lobbies and private matches.)
-Weapon Skins (WS #10)
-Lobby Avatars
-Character Illustrations
-Character Plates
-Character Colors (Color #22)
-Character Costumes

There are two tiers to it however, a "Normal" section, and a "Premium" section.

Normal: No purchases needed, the maximum level in the "Normal" tier is 30 and it ends with a Lobby Avatar. (Your BP level will still increase however...)
Premium: Requires in-game purchase similar to buying DLC. The maximum level in the "Premium" tier is 60 and it ends with a Costume. (The BP Level will max and stop at 60.)

There are two ways to earn levels...(You start at Lv.1.)

One is in-game level purchases similar to buying DLC, but it is completely unnecessary. The second requires to clear in-game challenges, those being the "Standard", "Daily", and "Weekly" challenges.

Standard Mission: Play Ranked/Casual matches. This maxes out up to 20 matches. XP starts at +500 up to +3,000 the number of specific matches needed. These are only one time missions, and they don't reset (until the next round of battle passes, that is).

Daily Missions: There are 3 daily challenges that you can clear. Usually easy to do. Clearing them will give you +500 each (max +1,500 daily).

Weekly Missions: There are 3 weekly challenges that you can clear. Takes a while to do. Clearing them will give you +2,000 each (max +6,000 weekly).

You gain levels for every 800 XP reached in the battle pass, and the value is always static.

Daily missions reset at 12 PM PST/1 PM PDT. Weekly missions reset on Sundays at 12 PM PST/1 PM PDT. Battle Passes last for 40 days.

-Online Lobby Avatar: Gran (Casual Wear) only.

-Story Mode: Up to Episode 40.

Sorry for the wait, but yeah, Wings of Terror (Proto Bahamut's theme) is unlockable in Story mode. You can use the skip shortcut for the first two parts to unlock some things early, including this BGM track. (Or if you already made progress via Versus' RPG mode, then use the save transfer.)

Had a match against someone and they had Wings of Terror as the BGM, but I can't find it in the unlocks. Is it a Story Unlock or something else?

@LilDeathFox
Not really, but yeah, back then, those had incorrect mission/challenge requirements written wrong, and has since been fixed.

Can you tell, what's the unlock requirements for Music - Other, 1st row 5th place, please? (between Where Champions Converge and World of Chaos) Or at least say the name so I could google it, idk.
