Easy Controller Support for Oblivion
By Drunkenstein
Ugh it would be simpler and far more beneficial to just learn to use Mouse & Keyboard. But by all means knock yourself out.

Step by step guide
  • Step 1 Open your Steam client.
  • Step 2 Open the Store of your Steam client
  • Step 3 Type in the search tab "Controller companion" and click the search icon
  • Step 4 Buy Controller companion - it is super expensive it will cost you whole 3$, but it will be worth it.
  • Step 5 Use your Steam client to install Controller companion
  • Step 6 Plug in your controller
  • Step 7 Launch Controller companion using your Steam client or using Controller companion's shortcut
  • Step 8 Nothing happens? Fear not it's normal. Click on your "hidden icons" in the bottom-right corner and you will find one that looks like a gamepad among others. Right click it and select "Settings"
  • Step 9 Controller companion should open and now select "Profiles" on it.
  • Step 10 Now click "Edit bindings"
  • Step 11 Now you can map your controller keys to correspond to the ones on your Mouse & Keyboard by clicking them then selecting what they are suppose to act as on your M&K
  • Step 11.5 You can also do secondary bindings which will work by holding your "Back/Select" key and pressing the key with the secondary binding on your controller during gameplay. So it's best to use controls that are rarely used as secondary like "Caps Lock" which by default is used to toggle between running and walking.
  • Step 12 Launch Oblivion using your Steam client. This may cause Controller companion to stop working due to conflict. Don't fret just hold "Back/Select" and press "Start" on your controller, which will make it work again.
  • Step 13 Be happy with your newfound controller support
  • Step 14 Thank me
FAQ's
Q: Does it work for non-Steam games
A: Yes, in fact games that are not on steam will not conflict with it.

Q: I have been ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about controller support for years now and the solution was right under my nose, am I really that stupid?
A: You are unable to learn to use M&K and are reading this, so what do you think?

Q: I changed the default controls layout in Oblivion and now my controller keys are mixed up or not working
A: You don't say? It's probably an act of god...... Just reset to defaults or change the keybinds again.

Q: Will you marry me?
A: I like intelligent women and asian girls or better yet intelligent asian girls. You clearly aren't the former but if you are the latter then maybe we can work something out.

No that's not it. I'm telling people to get proactive and just learn to use M&K too.
For example there are twats who actually want to use controllers to play FPS games that don't support them, which is ludicrous. I can use both so I'm far better off, that's the point I'm making.
Oblivion was in fact the first game I played M&K, and the feeling was wierd at first but after a day or two I got the hang of it.
So the point is that people are just lazy.

@Drunkenstein so you're trolling your fellow controller users for the love of the game, I respect the hustle

That is a valid argument, so I will answer. I don't exactly have a preference, as I can play with both. But it is true that some games play better using a specific method. For example I play platformers using a controller and FPS using M&K. RPG's, however, are ones that work both ways for me. But I mostly play M&K even if controller support exists. It's not just Oblivion, I also play Gothic, Witcher and Fable using M&K.

How, I know this method relates to a very very old game I bought on GOG that was more easy to play using a controller. But it was far too old to work with any controller today, so I found this method to cheat the system.

Heaven forbid people genuinely prefer the feel of a controller I guess. The fact you knew about this method makes one wonder about your own control preferences, however...

Wow I made a guide on how to become invulnerable in Oblivion which was quite a hit. But this may soon surpass it in popularity........

Because the original game was released to Xbox 360, why is it proving impossible to Bethesda or Modders to bridge the missing gap and enable that native support? Even the settlngs menu for this game mentions stick sensitivity, albeit they are greyed out.

@eversoul1212 Well, the remaster has controller support, so why are you here then?

this guide writer is extremely low IQ. not only is this the worst way to add controller support to oblivion, the condescending comments about people wanting to use a controller is juvenile at best. I guess wanting to play on a handheld pc while laying in bed makes you dumb in this guys eyes. what an absolute clown.

Now that truely is offensive! You have CTS because of which you need to use a controller instead of M&K? Bullshit!
CTS primarily affects the thumbs, which are the most used fingers for controllers. CTS also causes problems with grip and controllers are hand held. So M&K would be preferable.
Which makes you a truely repulsive person to use such conditions to validate your point.
