Hmm, what is this ?
This guide will explain you how to make manually a shortcut, for Garry's Mod !

It might be useful if :
  • You deleted your shortcut by accident,
  • You want to learn things, or just want to read something from boredom,
  • You want to check how it works,
  • You want to know how to put a custom icon to Garry's Mod.

Note : It might work for other Steam games obviously, what you need to have is the game ID and directory.
Go to your Desktop
It might be easy, I wonder.

If you're some guy with ALOT of windows on your screen, please press this thing :

Or press Win+M, it will be more easy.
Make a new shortcut
Right click the desktop, and slide to New, and click on Shortcut.

Edit the shortcut
After clicking the thingy, you will see some scary Windows window.

You're gonna paste what's below, on the window textbar.

steam://rungameid/4000

It will show this :

Please do not type New Internet Shortcut, it won't break the game but it's really ugly.

Put what's below.
Garry's Mod

Or if you want to be more creative :
Russian Simulator Ragdoll Game g How to be not alone Educational Game (trust me mom)

Put everything you want, it's your desktop.

Add an icon
You will end up by something like this :

Trust me, I don't want to end up having this white paper as my GMod icon, else I would vomit every time I want to start it.

Don't worry, putting the original icon of it is pretty simple.

You are going to right click the icon you have created, and click Properties :

On the window that will appear, click the Change Icon... button.

It will show a bunch of system icons, you're going to paste this :
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\GarrysMod\hl2.exe

Inside the shown textbar :

Press Enter, and, in normal cases, it will show this :

Click OK, click OK again, and done !

If clicked, it will start Garry's Mod with Steam, enjoy !

Can i put a custom icon ?
Oh, in case you want to do this, rewind the steps from "You are going to right click the icon you have created...", and once you are there again :

Click the textbar, and put the directory you put your icon. It should be a DLL, EXE or ICO.
I'm going to put for example :
C:\Users\#####\Downloads\Garry.ico

I pressed Enter, and it displays this :

Click the icon, and click OK and OK again.

It should be done !

I hope it helps, enjoy !
(Optional) Support me !

@garry Might be the file, if it's a custom icon, make sure at least it's a ICO file and is not going to be moved.

the only part of this guide, that is useful, is about editing the icon, but it is really simple to understand yourself so idk, 90% of the guide is useless bc of steam functionality

also, win + m doesn't hide all applications, only that are windowed, fullscreen applications will stay.

win + d hides all applications

or you could just right click garry's mod in your steam library > manage > add a desktop shortcut and not to do all of that stuff
