If you are planning to replay this absolute classic or you are playing this game for the first time maybe you should know about some things before you begin to play. IT IS NOT A WALKTHROUGH!!! It's just a guide for beginners with some basics.

Skills
The game gives you skillpoints after every completed mission which you can spend for several skills, like hacking, weapon handling, swimming, picklocking, etc... There are 3 stages you can upgrade each skill and it requires a lot of skillpoints, BUT! - I can give you some advices which skills you should improve and which not. There are a lot of doors, gates, storages which requires more than one picklock or multitool. These things are quite important in the game, so i suggest you to NOT spend skillpoints to the picklocking and Electronics skills. Why do i say that? Because there is a little glitch in the game which let you break all security stuffs with one picklock/multitool. I will tell you more about it later... So, what do i suggest? Upgrade the Low-tech weapons, hacking, medicine, environmental training or swimming if you still have some unspent points (but that not essential only if you want to break in through hidden sewers) These skills will be the most important during the walkthrough.
Weapons
In the first period of the game you may think it's better to collect every type of gun and upgrade them, but the turth is you're wrong. But let's talk about it first: The reason why i don't recommend guns because they damage are low, their accuracy are bad (without mods) and despite of you can kill the enemy soldiers easily with a few gunshots, you will be in a huge disadvantage against MIBs and robots. Until you arrive to Hong-Kong and find the Dragon Tooth sword, it's heavily recommended to equip a pistol, a shotgun and a submachine gun with you. You don't need anything else beside these. It's also recommended to search modifications to these guns, which you can find in secret places of the map or just simply buy them from arms dealers or random civilians (most of the time you have to do something for them to buy) I suggest you to spend your stolen or saved credits to these things, or LAM grenades if available in the concrete case. These modifications can improve your aim, reload speed, increase the magazine of the gun, give you silencer or laser pointer. I don't say you never going to use them but you better use the Dragon Tooth sword. Why? Because it's has a huge damage value (100%) and with a fully upgraded Weapons: Low-Tech skill it's almost cause instant death (depends on the type of enemy of course) Believe me you will be very greatful for this if you against of MIBs. You can further upgrade this skill with augmentations which can increase the efficiency of one handed weapons. It's very important to don't waste your LAM grenades. Only use them agains robots and enemies which almost impossible to approach. You don't have to use them often but you'll be very greatful if you have some in your inventory.
Skillpoints
You can gain skillpoints with completion of your primary and secondary missions (if available). To state: Deus Ex is not a short game! If you don't rush you can beat it within 25 hours but it's only could be more if you interact with random NPCs. They give you a lot of useful information! Some of them may give you additional missions too.

Explore the maps! There are a lot of hidden places which gives you additional skillpoints if you discover them. It's not too much but better than nothing :) Plus most of the times in these places you can find augmentation cans, augmentation upgrades, credit chips and weapon mods.Break in every place where you can but first, press a Quick save just for safety's sake. If you don't find anything what you need, simply reload your latest save file and you already saved a picklock or multitool. I SAID: ONE picklock/multitool!!! If you keep in mind these things you will have a lot of skillpoints which you can spend all of the skills you will need through the game.
The lockpick/multitool bug!
WARNING! If you don't like using a game's glitch for you own good, skip this section!

Now let's talk about this bug what i mentioned a few times before. So in the game there are a lot of doors, security systems, etc... which requires more than one lockpick or multitool if you want to break it. But there is a little bug which allows you to break every lock or system with one tool. Go to the door/system what you wish to break and start it. After this immediately press the Escape button, and wait half a minute. (It depends on your lockpicking/electronics skill. In the knowledge of this depends your waiting time) After this little break return to the game and TA-DAAAAA! You made it! You break in the most super secured door with one multitool (or lockpick) With this little trick you can save A LOT lockpick and multitool and last but not least, skillpoints: which normally you would spend to the lockpick/electronics skills.
Augmentations
I know it's only depends on the player which augmentations he/she want to use through the game but i would like to share a few tips with you. The most important is to search every corner so if you find more augmentation cans or upgrades. You can find locked augmentations too which usually you can unlock with a pin code, multitool or through some nearby terminals/computers. It's also a good idea to read the datacubes. Sometimes the codes are in there. Do the same with augmentation upgrades. I think the most important augmentations are the regeneration, Ballistic Protection, Environmental Resistance and the Combat Strength. Of course there are much more augmentations in the game, you are free to choose, but it's very important to not decide very soon, because most of the augmentations are only available in the end levels. You can install the augmentations with medic bots so until you don't find one you have to save it in your inventory.
That's all folks!
Hope i could give a lot of useful information which you can use in the game and maybe with this you will have a bit easier work :) One more thing at the end: It's only one way to play through this game so don't hesitate try out other augmentations and weapons too! Good bye and have fun! Thanks for reading!

I never really used the GEP Gun, but thanks for sharing! :)

Surprised you don't recommend the GEP gun, having a ranged lockpick/robot destroyer is nice, and you can get the other two weapons within minutes of starting the 1st mission...

Regarding Augmentations: I'd say the following are almost mandatory.

- Speed Enhancement (crouch with this active and you're already 'silently running'
- Regeneration (no healkits needed!)
- Ballistic Protection (most enemies use guns)
- Environmental Resistance (lots of hazards are environmental)
- Cloak (most enemies cant see you if you're cloaked)
- Combat Strength (Microfibral really doesnt help much, especially if you have Speed Enhance to jump high)

And then the other 3 are prob optional.

Power Recirc is probably better overall than Synth Heart, but it costs 3 aug upgrades (out of 19 possible in the game) so the Heart can be nice if you want to save elsewhere. Agg/def vs Spy drone depends on playstyle, as does Targeting vs Vision.

Then i'm pretty sure it is patched either in the Maps Patch or the Kentie's Launcher. The vanilla version still has this glitch.

I think the Lockpicking / Multitool glitch got patched. I'm using v1.112fm with the Maps Patch and Kentie's Launcher.

The PS2 version is a decent port of the game, but the PC version is highly recommended :)

Last I played this game was about 3-4 years ago on the PS2, so you could say I'm pretty new to this game having recently purchased it again. Thanks for the guide, it helped me somewhat.
