Gameplay footage of the Sega Saturn Edition of Marvel Super Heroes. Gameplay here is of Psylocke on Normal with rounds set to 1. Footage is of the PAL release which is why it has crappy boarders at the top/bottom of the screen which I don't believe was present in the NSTC/Japanese release.

Marvel Super Heroes is a rather odd game in that BOTH the PS1 and the Saturn ports are rather bad. The PS1 port is the worst of the two with longer loading times, more frames missing and slowdown when bigger characters are on screen.

The Sega Saturn port of the game can use the additional cartridge to improve the overall experience of the game causing less slowdown and slightly (by god do I mean SLIGHTLY) less loading times but also at the same time becomes a double edged sword in that if you play as bigger characters (Hulk or Thanos etc) the cartridge then makes the game run slower.
Also this was a mute point anyway because the fact of the matter is that most people who owned a Saturn outside of Japan didn't own the additional 1-4MB cartridges because they were not made readily available.

In Japan if you bought games like Darkstalkers 3 or KOF for the Saturn they usually came with the extra cartridges in order for them to work. Yet none of those games that required the cartridges were released outside of Japan for the Saturn. So it would be rare for an EU/NTSC owner of a Saturn to have the extra cartridges back then.

Most people played this game without the cartridge but for those lucky few who did have one it did improve the game slightly but in all honesty....not by very much. Marvel Super Heroes for the Sega Saturn remains one of the few games released worldwide that was released by Capcom/Sega that could use the 1-4Mb carts as sadly games like Marvel Super Heroes VS. Street Fighter, Darkstalkers 3, KOF97 and others didn't see a release outside of Japan.
