Intro
Welcome to the Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Trophy and Achievement guide!
9/10 Estimated Difficulty – Foxhound Rank
10 – 15 Estimated Hours to Completion
2 Minimum Playthroughs – 1 for all misc. and collectible Trophies/Achievements and 1 more for a FOXHOUND run.
40 Missable Trophies/Achievements
The majority of this list is collectible based. You’re going to need to collect every plant, animal, mushroom, camouflage, face paint and Kerotan.
Kerotan are toy frogs that are found throughout the game. You’ll need to shoot each of them. You’ll know you’ve “collected” one as they will make a very distinct noise when shot.
If you die after collecting something or shooting a Kerotan, you will need to collect it again if you are in the same area. The game is broken up into different named areas. If you save the game, you’ll be back at the start of the area when you load the file. So, keep that in mind when collecting everything. If you’re gonna end your session, save your game in the next area before collecting anything.
Playthrough
You will need to get through the game without killing anyone. That includes the bosses. You’re going to need to use non lethal weapons against the bosses and during the game.
However, there are Trophies/Achievements that are going to require you to kill enemies.
Save your game at the beginning of an area, get the kill related Trophies/Achievements and then re-load your save to before you killed anyone. That way, the kills will not have counted but you will have unlocked the Trophies/Achievements.
Everything can be followed in chronological order by following the Metal Gear Solid 3 Collectible guide. This includes missable Trophy/Achievement locations.
FOXHOUND
The Foxhound Trophy/Achievement is going to be the most difficult Trophy/Achievement to earn here. You are going to have to complete the game with some very difficult stipulations.
This is something that you should save for last. You’re going to need to really understand this game and what to do before attempting this Trophy/Achievement.
During this play-through, you’re going to want to make sure you do not kill any one. That includes bosses. You will need to use non lethal weapons against the bosses. This can be done on any difficulty.
There are Trophies/Achievements for killing enemies, but this can be manipulated. Save your game, get the kill related Trophies/Achievements and then load your save to wipe away the kills.
The guide below is written on very easy difficulty to make collecting everything required as easy as possible.
The following weapons will be automatically acquired at various points in the story:
  • MK22
  • Survival Knife
  • M1911A1
  • Directional Mic
  • Single Action Army
  • Fork
  • C3
  • Patriot
  • EZ Gun
Play on Very Easy or collect all plants and animals on higher difficulties.

Groznyj Grad
This next section is going to be tricky. You’re going to have to shoot Kerotan while driving.
Save your game each time you enter a new area. That way, you can re-load and try again just in case you miss. Some of these are hard to hit, so it will likely take a few tries. You’re going to want to use the SVD and RPG for these.

It is on the left side of the runway on a sign that has a “5” on it. It’ll be after you and Eva turn left to head straight down the runway. If you can aim just to the left of it, spam your shots and you should hit it as you pass by.
If you think you’ve hit it but aren’t sure, equip the Directional Mic and point it at the Kerotan to see if you can hear its noise.

Kerotan #56 – This is another tricky one. You’re going to want to save your game as soon as you enter the area. You have to shoot this one while driving. It is on the right side of the runway on a sign that has a “5” on it. This is just like the previous Kerotan. It’ll be soon after the area begins. If you can aim just to the right of it, spam your shots and you should hit it as you pass by.
If you think you’ve hit it but aren’t sure, equip the Directional Mic and point it at the Kerotan to see if you can hear its noise.

Groznyj Grad Runway Bridge
Kerotan #57 – As soon as the section begins, you’ll be laying prone with the SVD equipped. Stand up and look to the bottom left to see this on the bridge girders.

Shagohod Boss Battle
Kerotan #58 – Wait until you’re on foot for this Kerotan. As soon as the on foot section begins, this will be on the roof of the building on the other side of the area.

Use non lethal weapons to take down Volgin here. The Mosin Nagant is very helpful with this.
Secret Cutscene #3 – Once Volgin catches on fire, hold R1/RB/R as soon as Snake says, “It’s finally over.” He’ll look at Eva and you’ll see The Sorrow behind her.

Groznyj Grad Rail Bridge North
Kerotan #59 – This is on the roadblock that Eva stops at. You’ll only have a small window to shoot it, so be quick. It’s on the ground next to a soldier.
If you think you’ve hit it but aren’t sure, equip the Directional Mic and point it at the Kerotan to see if you can hear its noise.
15 - O.S.E. - Lazorevo/Zaozyorje/Rokovoj Bereg etc
Lazorevo South
Kerotan #60 – This will be on your right on the ground in front of a big rock. This is easiest hit with the RPG.
If you think you’ve hit it but aren’t sure, equip the Directional Mic and point it at the Kerotan to see if you can hear its noise.

Lazorevo North
Kerotan #61 – This will be on your left on a rock. This is easiest hit with the RPG.
If you think you’ve hit it but aren’t sure, equip the Directional Mic and point it at the Kerotan to see if you can hear its noise.

Zaozyorje West
Kerotan #62 – When the path splits left and right, go right. You’ll eventually come to a log that you can use to cross a gap. While standing on the log, look down to the left and you’ll see the Kerotan down below.

Zaozyorje East
Kerotan #63 – Continue until you come to a split. This is behind the tree that is in the middle of the split.

Rokovoj Bereg – The Boss
Kerotan #64 – This is found on top of a tree in the boss battle area. Just look straight up in the middle of the area.

The next three snakes are all found in the boss battle area. There’s nothing really that separates them from each other in location and appearance. They are all on the ground next to logs. The snakes are all white and really blend in with the flowers of the area. Just look for the logs laying on the ground. Use thermal goggles to help see them.
Snake I

Snake J

Snake K

Snake Camo – Beat The Boss using non lethal weapons. This will drop as her health bar is emptied, so grab it before the next scene starts.
Secret Cutscene #4 – After shooting The Boss, her horse will walk up. Hold R1/RB/R when the horse walks up and hold it until you see The Boss standing with The Sorrow.

White House
Secret Cutscene #5 – When the President extends his hand out to shake Snake’s hand, hold keys and you’ll see Ocelot outside of the window.

Graveyard
Secret Cutscene #6 – Hold keys as soon as Snake salutes at the The Boss’ grave to get a view of the cemetery.

If everything was followed correctly, the rest of the Trophies/Achievements will be given after the credits. The special items will be given to you after the credits.
You’ll also be given the Infinite Face Paint which will unlock “Only Skin Deep.” You’ll also receive the rest of the camouflages needed for the “Fashionista” Trophy/Achievement.

Wear the Thermal Goggles to see his foot prints. Follow them. When you’re close, use the D-Pad to quietly walk up behind him.

Sneak up to him and point your gun at him to hold him up. This will earn the “You Snooze, You Lose” Trophy/Achievement.

Once you have the Moss camo, equip it and the Woodland face paint. Then, lay down and don’t move.

CQC Interrogate an enemy is weird, because it says to press L3, but I had to press L2 on my PS4. Probably no way to change this. I had to press all buttons except R2 and Triangle.
