What is fragility?
Fragility to put it simply is the mechanic where blocks fall off. Some blocks have more base fragility some have less, the higher the fragility the higher likelihood of the block falling off.

Fragility can be decreased by using all APs(this means not leaving any uncovered or against a non AP face of a block), this is also referred to as AP weaving. Remember that that this fragility reduction will deplete as the blocks connected break or fall off themselves.
Why does fragility matter?
Best way to test your tech's durability is either let an enemy tech fire at you in singleplayer. Alternatively you can fire on your own tech in a private multiplayer lobby, where both you and the tester tech are different teams. Be aware only team 1 doesn't spawn with full power, and the reason enemy techs blow up soo violently is because of the following:

-Team Enemy regardless of sub team (ally or savage) have double fragility in calculations against people on Team 1

-Within single player the player always is Team 1

Remember that when health is fully depleted then the block breaks, once the rng roll(which is more likely with higher fragility) for the block to fall off occurs the block falls off. Blocks will automatically fall off once they have no longer any connections to the tech anymore.

sorry for the late reply, the source is from values present in json files. Alongside answers from modders who have access to the game's source code. Who have have looked into the function of how fragility plays into gameplay.
