It's definetly a bug since mission control explicitly tells you to watch your head whenever fuel arrives.
And other non-ammo pods can actually end you.

Yeah, but there is plenty of telegraphing that they are coming. And another player could call the resupply and it'll still kill you. I'd prefer it to be consistent, either you always die or you always live.

Supply pods are called by the player so it's your responsibility to make sure you don't stand under it while it lands, while the rest is dropped at random by the game, wouldn't be very fair if RNG decided to screw you and land the pod straight on you in the middle of a swarm or something.

Same issue when a new dwarf joins in mid-mission :(

Though it allows me to walk right into their mini-droppod and ping their face before it opens, which is fun
