Getting started
Before going in all your files and stuff, we need a sound. For the best sound, don't make it like 3 seconds long, the sound wil play multiple times if you hit someone with such things as flametrowers. So select your sound, make sure it is Wav! If you have a sound, but it's too long or another file, use a program as Audacity (Link:http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) or my personal favourite, the online converter http://www.online-convert.com/. Once you have done that, you are ready for the next step!
Diving in your TF files!
Now stuff wil get more technical! You will need to go to your Tf2 custom folder. find it at: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf\custom . it might be different for you, but concepts keep the same. Once your in there, create a folder named to whatever you like. In the folder, make another folder named 'sound', then add a folder named 'ui' . place your Wav file in there. Do not forget to rename it to hitsound! Congratulations! You now created you own hitsound!
Adding other sounds
Feel like some other sounds also deserve to be replaced? It's the same, but 2 steps are different.
Whats different: Instead of naming the 3 folder 'ui' name it as displayed in the following site: http://maurits.tv/data/garrysmod/wiki/wiki.garrysmod.com/index82eb.html This site includes all file names for sounds, and even some more! For instance, if i want to replace the heavy's machine gun sound, i can see on the site that it needs to be weapons/minigun_shoot.wav. Weapons is the replacement for 'ui' and minigun_shoot.wav is a replacment for hitsound.wav. Good Luck!

Huh, I aways created my files with Vegas Pro and most of the time I've ran into a bitrate error. Open the console in tf2 and check for error messages when the sound is supposed to play.

It was originally and .ogg file and I changed it into a .wav with the website www.zamzar.com .

I did everything I was supposed to, but it doesn't work.

@[Torn]FireMax5 Is it a .wav file? And how did you produce the sound? Vegas, Audacity?

For me, it's not making any sound at all when I hit someone.

"Now stuff wil get more technical! "Once your in there, create a folder named to whatever you like. In the folder, make another folder named 'sound', then add a folder named 'ui'" Also said that

@Palutena You have to make a folder inside the Custom folder where the name doesn't matter, but inside that folder it will matter, it has to be Sound and in the new Sound folder make a new map with the type where the original sound locates itself.

I don't play on Valve servers, and my sound folder only has sound.cache and ui folder

@Scanty Did you add other files to the game? Has your folder a name that already exist in the files of the game? I need more specific information to see the problem. Also Valve servers have sv_pure 1, which means any sounds (except the hitsound) won't be accepted, and be just the regular sounds.
