install prerequisites then install windows DLLS
Edit: this guide my not be required anymore since the recent updates. just switch to proton 8.0.5

first we will need the latest versions of winetricks and proton tricks !

open the terminal to write the relevant commands ctr+ altl + T will open it for you.

we will install wine and wine tricks first :

if you are on ubunto or other debian based distros use :

sudo apt-get install wine
sudo apt-get install winetricks

]if you are on arch based distros use :
sudo pacman -S wine
sudo pacman -S winetricks

next we install protontricks

debian based :

sudo apt-get install protontricks

arch based :

sudo pacman -S protontricks

NOTE: debian based distros such as ubunto will have older versions of those apps by default. this might change the outcome of the commands. use flat hub or your graphical package manager if you are not sure
if those commands dont work , there are plenty of other guides to get those apps running.

now we install the required windows DLLs for TreeIt

run tree_it once. let it do its running and crashing thing. this will create the pfx files we need.

open your terminal once more and type :

protontricks 2386460 vcrun2008

this will take some time.

once the installations are successful. you should be good to go. just run Tree it normally and wait for the initial shader compilation to finish.

if youre experiencing blackscreens or freezes, go to /your steam library folder/steamapps/shadercache find the folder named 2386460 and delete all the shader cache files.

if you still experiance crashes then you can delete the pfx files in the /compatdata/2386460 folder . THIS WILL DELETE ALL YOUR SETTINGS AND SAVED FILES. MAKE SURE TO BACKUP YOUR FILES.

Or just stick to Proton 8.0-5 in the Compatibility Settings.
