Tips and Tricks
Easy mode is Omniscient, Telepathic and Creative.

Take penalty on ground combat, spying and ship attack. To take the above perks.

Take Repulsive on Impossible because the AI will not negotiate with you. Do not remember if on hard is the same.

-Creative is the best Perk , even after the last patch made it more expensive. Take all picks from research tech.

-Telepathic invincible in Ground Combat and great spying bonus.

-Omniscient - See all map, fleets, planets etc.

Tech trading is really really useful. For this reason, don't take Repulsive on easier difficulties, and try to stay friends " trading, tech trading and Non-agression Pact" with everyone right up until you backstab them.

Don't make allied deals, the AI will take you to wars you don't need.
Only do trading, tech trading and Non-agression Pact. You will always be friends with others races.

Pressing the Z key during battle does superfast autocombat. You'll thank me after you've tried to sit through a 200 vs 200-ship battle royale.

The hardest AI civs are the Sakkra and Silicoid. The Trilarians and Psilons can get bad too, but they are generally friendly.

Your weapons get additional mods as you tech up, so check back on older weapons to see if they're better than new weapons. Load up small ships with missiles (Nuclear missiles equipped with MIRV are optimal) instead of beam weapons. I forget the reason why, but I think it's because your targeting computers blow in the early game. You can also tech up for armor piercing, auto-firing Mass Drivers.

If you're making a race, never invest in +Farming. Toward the end of the game, a couple colonies can provide food for your entire empire without too much effort.

Have always freights, because of lack of food, or to transport Pop to other planets.
So keep an eye on your freights fleet.

If you steal an enemy ship and scrap it, you get their sweet, sweet tech. This holds especially true for the Antarans. However, even the smallest Antaran ship is going to put up a hell of a fight against being captured, and I think they self destruct the second they're disabled.

Missile ships are excellent to start off with. Make them only have 2 lots of missiles rather than 5, you can fit more on. Sure they'll be the occasional battle where you're left with ships with no weapons left on them but a lot of the time you can turn a narrow victory into a decisive one if you up your alpha strike.

Build housing. When making new colonies, ship out 3-5 guys from one of your larger colonies to get the colony on its feet as a high population brings victory and two colonies growing very quickly is better than one colony growing slowly.

Build a nice fleet and try to take the planet Orion, is the best planet but the Guardian is hard.
Save game and reload if you want.

Have a plan to defend your empire and plan your expansion, don't over extend.

Enemy Races feels that you are weak by your lack of fleet / Ships, so build unarmed ships then refit them when you can with weapons... :) nice trick yes ?

You can do diplomacy on Impossible, it's just a coin flip if they're going to backstab you despite having a ludicrously profitable trade and science treaty. Especially if the Darloks are in the galaxy blaming you for all their dirty tricks. It can keep them off your back long enough to get your feet under you.

Omniscient is actually not really good. You already get a couple of scout ships, proper deployment of outpost ships is all you need, plus occasional tech investment into ship range. MUCH better option is Subterranean for higher pops per planet.

Low-Gee is a great 'disadvantage that really isn't' because Gravity Generators are not too deep in the tech tree. Low-Gee + penalty on spying plus penalty on ground combat is a great set of not-penalties.
