Tips & Tricks
By medve99
After reaching over 40 hours of playtime with this game, I have probably found the best ways to do things. In this guide I want to share a few tips and tricks with you. :)

First of all, MA is a sandbox
You do whatever you want. Because of this I will be focusing more on the general things, like farming, but I'll also mention a few building things, too. I won't write precise step-by-step tutorials, instead I'll share only tips and tricks. Nothing I say in my own opinion is objectively true. You do You, keep that in mind

I also won't pay a lot of attention to the early game, but more on that part of the game when you're not working only on surviving.

So let's get started!

(Guide made for Version 1.2.1)
Farming crops
The most important but at the same time the most boring thing in the game.

When you're farming anything, not just crops, you probably have one of these 3 goals:
  • Getting building materials
  • Farming food
  • Gaining money

What kind of plants should You use?
If you're focusing on food, your choice is pretty much the same. (Except if you choose pepper. Don't do that, you're gonna be thirsty)
I used to eat pumking slices, but mushroom stew is the absolute best.

But if you want to sell all of your crops, you have to visit the farmer goblin in town.

You can sell
  • radish
  • broccoli
  • asparagus

To be honest, I've never really planted aspargus, so I can't recommend that.
We have a new question now: Should you grow broccoli or radish?

As far as I know the only difference is that radish takes 2, and broccoli needs 3 days to fully grow.
So the price is basically the same: you can sell radish faster, but for less money.

I recommend broccoli because you have to farm basically half as much and you'll have more time for building without breaks.

How should you build your farm?
Use sprinklers! It only costs 3 coins, it's worth it.

You have to place one sprinkler per chunk, as you can see in the picture below.

Farms like this take a lot of free space and a lot of time to use.
If you want to build a larger farm I recommend using the enchanted dimension.

Farming in the enchated dimension works exactly the same.
The day-night cycle is reversed in it, so farming at night is 100% safe.
You can use your space and your time like this much smarter.

Keep a chest next to your farm.
You can buy quartz axes from the smith for 10 coins, use those to pick up plants so you don't break you main axe. Keep your stuff in the chest while you farm.

How big should the farm be?

My farm is 6 * 6 + 6 * 10 chunks. After using it and replanting every broccoli I get about 1 and a half chests of crops.
Farming trees
Farming trees is very simple, so I won't write much about it.

What's the best way to farm logs?
Use bombs. Bombs are much faster than a simple axe, and you can buy 2 of them for only 5 coins from the explorer goblin.

The seeds can be sold to the farmer.
From maple trees you get syrup, too. You can craft health potions from it, but I recommend selling it to the farmer.
Farming mobs
At the moment you can't farm hostile mobs. There are spike and lava traps in the game, but I couldn't find a good way to use them. (If you find something share it with us in the comments. Thanks! :D) Hunting is the best way to kill them. Use spears to kill mobs with ranged attacks, and always keep 2 spears in your inventory.

Farming animals isn't really part of the game. There are two kinds of animals you should keep for farming.
  • sheep
  • goats

Use radish to breed them. I like to use spears to kill them, because spears kill one mob at a time.
Mining
I recommend the same thing for mining as for cutting down trees.
Use bombs. It's much faster.

Bring chests if you want to mine a larger area. Your inventory will fill up really fast. Whenever your inventory is full place down a chest. You can come back for the chest later.

If you're mining under a bamboo forest or a red spruce forest you should keep a few buckets with you so you can pick up pulluted water.

For an extra challenge try capturing moths and spiders. :)
How to light up the caves?
Use crystal lamps. They are much brighter than torches and later if you want to build something down there you won't have problems with destroying the torches one-by-one.
Tips and Fun facts
I still have a few tips for you.

  1. Use the underground.
At the moment there is basically nothing there, mobs don't spawn, and the only thing you can do there is limited mining. Make a storage room, a workshop or something like that but don't leave it lifeless.
  2. Use fountains.
If you're lazy (like me) you can use fountains to get food. If you have a larger farm you know money is no longer a limit. Boldly get a stack of coins and throw it into that fountain.
I just got this and two racoons from a stack of 32 coins. I don't even have to cook mushroom stew.
  3. Place water dispensers.
I have like 5. If I have a cup on me I can drink water at almost every other corner near my base.
  4. Mine everything you can with bombs.
Bombs have been mentioned in this quide two times already, chopping down trees and mining rocks, but I want to highlight mining with bombs here: grim bricks. every 5th or 6th grim brick is an ugly monster, so just blow up a bomb near it. Even if it not kills it, it wakes it up so you don't have to.
  5. Don't make bronze.
Just don't. You can get bronze from a fountain.
  6. Sometimes the game doesn't save everything how it should. I've found 2 things what don't work for me so far. Watch out for them:
    • don't use lava as a decoration (with lava traps)
it will disappear after you load back the game
    • cats sitting will get deleted (haven't tested it with cats standing lol)

Fun facts I found (a really short list what I want to expand soon):
  • There are only 2 kinds of mobs that you can spawn into all three dimensions.
    • Raccoons
      (can be spawned with fountains)
    • Ostriches
      (can be spawned with eggs)
