Custom Heraldry Import Guide
If you want to update the files of an already uploaded faction easily and have uploaded it before the latest patch
You need to add WorkshopID=[WorkshopID](this is the last part of the url in the workshop, a large number) to the end of your faction file. You can open your faction in notepad to edit the file as text. Now you can update your files in the workshop like newly uploaded factions can!

Discover how to personalize your faction experience in Voor de Kroon by importing custom heraldry. This guide will walk you through the steps to import custom emblem textures and backgrounds.

1. File Formats:
Supported format: PNG

2. Where to Place Custom Files:

For Emblems:
Navigate to your c:/users/[usersname]/appdata/local/formationsystem folder.
Look for a folder named HeraldryEmblems .
Place your custom emblem PNG files in this folder.

For Backgrounds:
Navigate to your c:/users/[usersname]/appdata/local/formationsystem folder.
Look for a folder named HeraldryBackgrounds .
Place your custom background PNG files in this folder.

Heraldry masks use a mix of green(r:0, g: 255, b:0) and purple (r:255, g:0, b:255) to determine the background/middle colors being painted on the mask.

Note: The game engine will automatically detect and import textures from these folders when you start the game.

3. Naming Convention for Backgrounds:
When naming your custom background PNG files, follow this convention to ensure they're properly imported:

Format:
[BaseName]_[PropertyName].png

Properties:
  • ShieldMask : Defines the shield's design.
  • ShieldEmblemOverride : Overrides the default emblem on the shield.
  • FlagMask : For the design on the flag.
  • FlagEmblemOverride : Overrides the default emblem on the flag.
  • SurcoatMask : Represents the surcoat's design.
  • SurcoatOpacity : Represents the surcoat's opacity mask.
  • HorseMask : Used for the design on the horse's cloth.
  • HorseOpacity : Used for the opacity mask on the horse's cloth.
  • HorseEmblemOverride : Overrides the default emblem on the horse.
  • HeraldryUIBackground : The background for the heraldry user interface representation.
  • HeraldryUIEmblemOverride : Overrides the default emblem in the UI.

For instance, if you have a custom heraldry background named "Dragon", your files might be like:
  • Dragon_ShieldMask.png
  • Dragon_FlagMask.png
  • Dragon_HeraldryUIBackground.png
  • Dragon_SurcoatMask.png
  • Dragon_HorseMask.png
    ...

4. Start the Game:
After placing your custom files in the right folders, launch the game. The engine will then incorporate your custom heraldry into the available options.

5. Uploading to the workshop:
If you upload your custom faction to the workshop all custom heraldry files will be included.

6. Mask template:
You can find masks in the games folder you can use to design your heraldry.
You can also download the England example from the workshop here.

Troubleshooting:
  • Ensure files are in PNG format and in the correct folders if custom heraldry doesn't appear.
  • Check the naming convention for background files for proper grouping.

Enjoy your unique custom factions!
