🧬Abbreviated Collection of Walkthroughs & Tips for MGS1☢️
By Bomb Tardy
The purpose of this guide is to address some of the aspects specific to this port, and to point the reader in the direction of existing high quality walkthroughs.
This is one of my first attempts at putting a guide together so bear with it; it's designed to prevent kojimania. This started as just compiling an ordered list of resources to be able to quickly find them again, and it remains such. If it helps anyone else all the better. Spoilers are kept to a minimum, but some slight giveaways are inevitable to make the guide intelligible and easy to navigate. Having to follow a bunch of external links is annoying so I tried to summarize the info and use the links as proof.

🔰 Interface, Controls, and General Tips
To access controller settings for switching controller ports and to get rid of the distracting background wallpaper on this version open the new "Stance Menu" by pressing L1+R1/LB+RB.
Opening this menu can be used to pause cutscenes and codec calls.

📼 Briefing ☣️
Watch all segments of the Briefing on the Main Menu for important Plot Points and Character Introductions.

📻 Codec 🛰️

Call each member of the support team at every turn for narrative reasons and guidance. SAVE OFTEN, especially just after beating Sniper Wolf. Most information one could find in a walkthrough is provided to the player via codec.

🎮 Plywood's guide to Controls ⌨️🖱️
This video teaches important basics and high level moves for speedrunners. Stop watching at 8:45 to avoid unnecessary spoilers. https://youtu.be/HnGvqjuCDio

Weapons and Techniques
On top of need-to-know weapon tips this video also shows how to disable the electrified floor with the nikita missile at 3:02. https://youtu.be/hpKmOkB6qjE

Difficulty cannot be changed on New Game+ so I recommend that players who find the gameplay dated to select Easy mode.

🍱 When LIFE runs out while a Ration is equipped it will be used automatically preventing game over.

If you would rather not look up every item's location just pay attention to when Snake is given a new Card Key. Generally there are always some new tools that will help in the areas ahead behind the newly accessible doors.

A quality PDF of Millennium's (©️®™️) Hideo Kojima approved MGS1 strategy guide. I'm unsure of the legality of this being freely available, but the scans are slightly askew which could be taken as artistic license. The Helipad area starts on page fifty-seven.

This site can be easier to navigate than those old Neoseeker guides.

⚙️ GEAR UP 🛠️
https://strategywiki.org/wiki/Metal_Gear_Solid/Items
⚠️Missing the SOCOM in the truck at the Helipad starts a chain reaction of items changing location! Immediately grabbing that and then the Thermal Goggles in the Tank Hangar upon arrival cannot be stressed enough. The Goggles will be moved to the level 6 room in the Nuclear Warhead Storage Building B2 where the Body Armor would have been.
I went back for the Goggles with the Level 4 Card after getting the SOCOM at its third location and this did move the Body Armor back to its first location. Procuring the goggles and armor ASAP is a huge boon.

🔑 After receiving the Level 2 Card from the ArmsTech president the SOCOM Suppressor can be obtained in Tank Hangar 1F in a level 2 room in the northeast corner near the cargo door.

"Snake, I've got it. Stop using keyboard and mouse. If you do that he won't be able to read your mind!"

Use the Stance Menu to switch Controller Ports.

🗺️ Wolf Cave 🐺
At the end of the Cave open-hand slap Meryl and quickly equip a Box. After the Wolf Pup urinates on it this Box will make Wolves passive, or just use stun grenades to evade them. Later the hankerchief will serve this purpose.

Fast Travel with two cardboard boxes to skip the Claymore filled Canyon when returning to the Armory for the PSG-1. The use of Thermal Goggles after throwing a chaff grenade allows safe passage through the canyon or just stick to the west perimeter. Thankfully laser tripwires are turned off. The box trick actually takes longer, but this was the only practical use I could think of. https://youtu.be/IkxopO4HxEc

My only advice for sequences in games that require button mashing is to put the controller down as flat as you can and rapidly rubbing a pen across the button. This takes some of the strain off of your arthritic digits. Mashing still counts when the timer runs out for a bit. Afterward take advantage of Naomi's controller massage on your wrist.

📡 Climbing the Comm Towers 🌉

Do not miss the Rope, or you'll have to climb Twr A twice.
Stun Grenades and running while shooting the FAMAS are the strategies here.
The Nikita missiles can be used as an alternative to the PSG-1 against the Comm Twrs Walkway snipers.

🚁 🚀
Once a locked-on homing Stinger missile is fired immediately unequip the weapon to dodge incoming attacks from the HIND.

Or so the Germans would have us believe...
💊 During the second encounter with Sniper Wolf it is easier to use the Stinger Missile Launcher than the PSG-1. Though you may not have much ammo left after the HIND battle the Stinger can also help locate her if you don't have thermal goggles.⌖

💿 Disc 2 - Maintenance Facility, Furnace
The second location of the Body Armor at the beginning of Disc 2 still makes a huge difference for the hard to avoid damage.

I'd say this upload is the best movie option, but it's the "submit" ending. Best I've found so far for sharing with busy people who are interested in this experience.

Congratulations you've fully experienced one of the highest quality pieces of interactive entertainment out there. Long before I even had a PC I found helpful Steam guides for games I owned on console. So maybe this can be of use to anyone emulating an upscaled version of the game, playing the original PS1 copy, or playing Twin Snakes.
