Beginners' Guide for Darkwind: War on Wheels
By babykicker13
This is a basic guide on the little things that you can find in the tutorial (driving, shooting, etc.) and some that you can't. If you are new to the game, this will help immensely. Otherwise, you'll be fine without it..

Basic Controls
Use the A,W,S,D keys to control the camera during an event. The Q and E keys rotate the camera, or you can click and drag to do the same thing. I believe R and F control the height, or you can scroll up and down.

Use T to open the chat, rather than having to click the chat area. Press Enter to send the message.

The up and down arrows control the desired speed of your current car.

The left and right keys control the steering, or you can drag the steering wheel around to control the car as well.

Also, press CTRL + G to show everyone's ghost. This helps for anticipating crashes. CTRL + T is used to initiate a timeout. This increases the move time drastically for one turn. You have three of these. CTRL + W is used to undo a move.

Use F2, F3, and F4 to change the information above the cars. (Distance, Morale, Speed, etc.) I don't use this, so I don't know what it looks like.

That's it for the basic controls.
Starting Equipment
When you first download the game and sign in, you start with no cars, and 5 characters.

NOTE: If a character dies, don't worry, you can get more on the Webpage. This relates to the Hospital section of the guide.

Go to "My Gang" --> "Meet My Gang" to see what your characters are best at.

Since you have no cars, you're going to need to go out and make some money to buy some. Do some Deathraces or Arena events. They help with getting money quick.

Don't worry about getting a car on your first day, you will do fine without it.
Joining a Match
Joining a match is pretty simple. You must be on the Lobby screen for this.

There are a series of matches you can join. For instance, Deathraces. They get you a LOT of money in a short amount of time. You just have to know what you're doing. Also, there are Arena matches, where you are on a team, or by yourself, destroying other cars.

To join a match, look at the bottom of the Lobby page. It lists a series of upcoming events. To join one, click on it. Click "Register".

Make sure you balance the appropriate amount of armor with the guns. For instance, if a car has frontal weapons, get some rear armor. If a car has rear weapons, get some frontal armor. When you've assigned everything, click Register again. It might not work the first time, so press it twice, just in case.

Now you're signed up for the event. You'll know when the event starts. It says the amount of minutes/hours next to the name of the event. Once it reaches 4 minutes, someone's face will pop up, and notify you. Shortly after, you will be able to press Play. If you don't press it in time, you might miss the event.
Driving
Driving can be pretty easy at times in this game. I don't think I have to go over much in this section, because all you really use are the arrow keys. Most of the stuff i'll be mentioning here will be relating to Deathraces. They get you a LOT of easy money. I'll throw in some tips to help out:

1. For Deathraces, stay towards the back of the pack, if all of the cars only have frontal weapons. They won't be able to fire at you. When most of the cars are wiped out, just speed right past them, and fire off some shots in the process. This helps a LOT with sparing your character's activity percentage. I'll go over the activity percentage in the next section.

2. Take shortcuts.
I mean this by not cutting through half of the map, but going around the inside corner of sharp turns, and making it around them quick in the process. Since the pathing for the majority of the AI is to go around the outer section of the turn, go on the inside. Going on the outside of turns is going to get your character(s) killed half the time. It's a clusterf*ck of drivers trying to drive through eachother. It just doesn't work.

3. Always have a character manning a gun, even if the turn for guns being allowed to fire hasn't come yet. It helps at times, especially when there's someone who's pissing you off and you want to keep your sights on them for when the time comes. This doesn't really apply to the Driving section, but I figured i'd just throw it in.
Car Weapons + Character Weapons
There are a variety of weapons equipped on your car in the game. The names don't really matter, because you will know what they do. What i'm going to teach you to do is have a character man a gun and shoot at a target.

First, you will have a character man a gun. Open the "Manage" tab, or press M. If you are in a car with two characters, obviously, have your gunner man a gun. What you want to do is click on the character that you want to man a gun with, then click the gun. It will say in the logs if that character has manned the specified gun.

Once you want to fire at a specified target, click on the gun, then click on the car you would like to shoot at. You won't be able to shoot on the turn you manned the gun. Wait one more turn, then right click the gun that you want to be used to shoot the target, and either press "Fire Once", or "Repeat Fire". "Fire Once" will fire once, and "Repeat Fire" will continue to fire until you are either out of ammo, or you right click on the gun again and select "Stop Firing".

One character can only man one gun at one time.

Your characters can also exit their cars. Right click on them and select "Exit Vehicle". Once your character has exited the car, you can right click something for a specified action on that entity. For instance, if you want that character to move somewhere, you put your mouse on the place you want that character to move, and press "Move Here" or something like that, I can't remember. Here's a picture of a friend of mine outside of their car:
Healing Characters
If your character is hurt, his Activity level will decrease. You obviously want to keep that up. To do this, you will need to put him in the hospital. Go to the "My Gang" tab in the lobby. Click "Webpage.." it will open the game's website up. Click "Towns/Camps" and go to Somerset. This is where your characters are probably stationed. Click on the hospital, and click on a character's name, on the right. It will bring his profile up. Scroll down, until you see his history. This will show his current injuries. If you think that one of his injuries is severe and should be hospitalized, go down to "Use Hospital Facilities" (or something like that, I can't remember) and select "Yes". Then, click Update. You will know if they are in the hospital if they have a + next to their name. If you don't see it, refresh the page.
Conclusion
Thank you for taking the time to check out my guide. If you like it, please comment, give it a thumbs up, or favorite it. I'll have to add some pictures in, because I feel that this doesn't feel complete without some.

If you would like me to add/change something to this guide to make it better, tell me. I will see if it works out with the rest of the guide.

NOTE: I don't have much time put into the game, so excuse me if some of the information I give you is incorrect.

Once again, thank you.

I heard that you could take out unconscious enemies from their vehicles, how to do this? I've tried to do this by making one of my characters get out during a scout and approach the vehicle but I didn't get any option by right clicking on the enemy vehicle that's demoralized and not moving to do so.

Many new players don't find F2 F3 F4 until they are scorned by the AI gangs, getting executed after resignations and have a bounty on them and cant understand why. Then they spend a month trying to fix it!

I usually don't use F2, F3, and F4, but i'll throw it in there anyways.

I generally cycle through F2 (Top text line) until I have the Active/Resigned status (or Confident/Demoralized in scouts)

I cycle through F3 (Middle text line) and use it to display Speed

I use F4 (Bottom text line) differently depending on the activity:

Town Events - I use it to display gang names (so I don't shoot a player accidentally before killing all of the AI. Its generally easier to win a match if the players don't fight amongst themselves till nearer to the end when it counts or the AI will just drive away and leave you all in last place)

Scouting - I display Car Name so I know which ones are the biggest threats (Kill those first if possible)

Traveling - I display distance to nearest enemy so I know when I can click "Escape" (350m or more)

I was going to try writing a Guide but this is better than what I would have come up with.

One Omission that I see that REALLY needs mentioned is the use of F2, F3, and F4 to change the 3 text lines above the cars.

Something that gets nearly all newer players in a bind is not knowing that an enemy is resigned and getting a bounty on their heads in SS. Resulting in post-resignation executions by the AI and Militia Ambushes for scouting returns
